Ah Vilas... one of the forgotten architects of the modern “behind the baseline” game. What a great player he was! Met him by chance at the US Open back in the early 2000’s. He was a genuinely pleasant guy who passed the time with me while waiting on line for a Heineken. One of those Open memories of a lifetime!

hahaha...this was the match I loved watching and fell in love with that puma racket of Vilas...I was obsessed with that racket and had my sister get in touch with a friend of her's in germany who sent me one of those...I liked it so much, I actually got in touch with the factory in Germany and managed to get them to send me two more...loved those rackets sooooo much

Noah had such an interesting style... while a net player at heart, he also had this looping, heavy topspin groundstrokes, which I assume were from his clay court upbringing; I guess it's one of the main reason why, even with his great serve & volley game, he never performed that well at Wimbledon
By the way, I still think his elegant and very clean service motion is one of the most beautiful I ever saw
