- We got to see some footage from the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot and it was one of our favorite things from the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon! Here's our reaction video!

One of a few books I have read over and over. By far my fav King novel
His name is Barlow, not Harlow. Are you sure you read the book 4 times?
This
How did he not know his name if he read the book?
If he came away with "Harlow", I believe it's safe to say the novel made no impression at all on him the "four times" he read it.
Yes Barlow is correct!
it makes you wonder doesn't it.
I love how most of the fans of this film are in their forties and fifties. We grew up with the original and it scared the shit out of us when we were kids.
Yeah. The vampires were scarier than the 2004 version.
Yes it did. It scared me when I was a kid. It's the only Stephen King book I couldn't read alone. I would actually get scared when I was reading it.
@@keithlange2573 oh yeah I remember watching that thing when it originally heard bro and 1979 I was like 12 years old scared the crap out of me I remember going around to the back of my house and we had a big yard and it was dark out boy I'd be running up the stairs to the second floor thinking there was a vampire right on my back
What do you mean kids.....shoot I was 22 when the book came out and I read it. Scared the crap out of me. I had my son the following year and when I had those middle of the night nursing in my rocking chair....all I could think of was that baby that became a vampire, and Mike Ryerson rocking back and forth in that rocking chair! When it came out on TV in 79 it scared the crap out of me and I had another newborn to feed at night! You better believe I placed my rocking chair away from the window and in a corner where no one could sneak up behind me! LOL
@@joellaalvarado6197 That's incredibly scary. The rocking chair scene with Mike is pure nightmare fuel. Speaking of babies wasn't there also a part in the novel where a baby was turned into a vampire? The McDougal baby or something. I think it was briefly mentioned in the film as well.
Listened to the audiobook 4 times. Watched the 1979 mini series about a thousand times. I can't freakin wait for this adaptation!
You got to read the book!!!
@@archiesinclair6252 i did.....4 times
Read the book several times it's a jewel in Kings crown. The audio book is fucking brilliant. The mini series scared the shit outta me as a kid and I love it all the more for that😁.. Can't wait to see this I hope it does the source material justice
Judging by what they did to Pet Sematary and Firestarter recently, I wouldn’t get your hopes up lol
@@jakewherley3301 true, but James Wan and Gary Dauberman were not involved in those projects. That's why I have some hope lol
What made the 1979 Salems Lot so creepy was not so much the makeup but the sound effects, music, atmosphere, acting..when Ralphie comes to the window the whole atmospheric build up with the music and sound effects had your heart pounding. And the makeup was menacing as well. Scary movies these days seem to lose the magic somehow. Hope this can recapture that. They have their work cut out to match Tobe Hooper.
Was literally about to write the same thing. Spot on
@Monsieur Tarzan yes exactly 100%. I watched 'The Fog' (John Carpenter) the other night. Another classic example of less is better. It is so effective because the music and sound effects along with good acting makes it convincing. There was no special effects and the only effect was the rolling fog coming in with that brilliant soundtrack. That's what makes the perfect horror movie. The oldies (70s, 80s) were best
I wish they had made this a miniseries on HBO rather than a movie.
@Monsieur Tarzan As much as I hate constant remakes, Salem’s Lot is in desperate need of one. If this movie flops, they should start a Dark Tower series and once they get to Wolves of Calla with Father Callahan, they should use Salem’s Lot as a Prequel, but he’s not the main character. My fancast is
Ben Mears - Patrick Wilson
Susan Norton - Elizabeth Olsen
Matt Burke - Gabriel Byrne
Mark Petrie - some unknown actor
Mike Ryerson - George MacKay
Dr Cody - Oscar Isaac
Barlow - Tony Todd
Straker - Christopher Waltz
@@ericcartman7361 the original film was great I don't think it was in desperate need of anything. No way they even come close to the Hooper film
Mr. Harlow... You have to be shitting me. Come on man get with the program!
The Master is Mr. Barlow and he can't wait to meet you.
Well I once read a monster mag and some prat referred to the king bloodsucker as Mr Barton !! I'm pretty sure it was a Famous Monsters mag! 😂😂😂
He certainly can't wait to meet you but he's busy at the moment on a buying trip. But you'll enjoy him and he'll enjoy you
Just for saying "Harlow" you didn't deserve to be one of the lucky ones to see the trailer
I live in Manchester, Massachusetts which is right next to Ipswich where they shot the film. I've been to Ipswich many times and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think it would be Salem's Lot someday. I'm such a fan of the original.
I will never forget watching that movie on tv and seeing my 6ft 4in brother scramble over the back of the couch when the vampire sat up.
Barlow mysterious. And no dialogue just brought more terror to the movie. Hope they keep it that way. The jail screen jump scare and Callahan and Peetry interrupted pow wow, was intensified due to the Mysterious Barlow. 😈
Mr. Barlow not Harlow.
Hopefully it doesn’t get ruined like the new Pet Semetary was.. 🙏
It's Mr BARLOW not Mr Harlow
The writer and director is a huge fan? I like this next one already. :)
Mr Harlow, are you kidding me. Its Barlow you muppet.
Oh man that sounds really awesome that sucks it's been delayed till next year man I'm really looking forward to this
The movie has been cancelled - completely, very sad!
@@davidmaestas6487 how do you know? They are testing it two more times on Wednesday after doing reshoots. Why gaslight us?
July 10 no trailer. This film is toast and they are going to bury it.
When's the trailer gonna come out I wonder
Release date pushed back is my gut feeling. Test screenings have finished I think the production is in deep shit.
Not Harlow, Barlow. Kurt Barlow. I can't wait to see the trailer.
You’ll enjoy Mr Harlow and he’ll enjoy you
Mr. Harlow is on a buying trip.
..can wait to see the first trailer...and realease fiml, on september 9th,2022
'B'arlow not harlow.
Never seen the movie, but I liked the book a lot back in the day so I’ll probably check this out.
Oh wow, you need to see the 1979 series. It’s not without it’s faults, since it was shown over multiple nights, it has some silly cliffhanger moments at the ends of each episode, and I personally didn’t care for the Barlow character….but other than that, it was great.
Watch the 1979 movie! Forget about this remake crap
I am one of very few who liked the 2004 version better than the original. Unlike many, the Nosferatu style of the head vampire in the original was not scary, but corny to me, and I was 8 at the time. With that said I do love both the previous versions and this is probably the movie I am most excited to see right now.
Mr Harlow? It's Barlow buddy ok Kurt with a ' K ' , As Straker (James Mason) points out ! Fabulous !!! 🙂👌👌🙏🙏💯
Does he keep saying "Harlow"?
Yup. Mistakenly. It's Barlow.
Great review. Cant wait to see the trailer. Mr. Barlow not Harlow.
You are absolutely right. Thanks for the heads up. I knew my mistake after we were done recording and the rest of it was too good to edit it out. Thank for your understanding.
I was wondering if anyone caught that ..2 dudes talking keep in mind your talking to SL freaks 😉😅
You’ll enjoy Mr Harlow and he’ll enjoy you.
You can do nothing against the Master
@@scottyk329 The master wants you
The book is scarier than crap
take a shot every time one of these guys says "creepy"
When does the trailer come out?
I don't think it will. My gut feeling is that the production is in serious trouble.
@@outpost31737 From all I've heard and read it sounds like it's going to be disappointing. No Larry Crockett, Parkins Gilliespie, or Dud Rogers and Dr. Cody is now a black woman!
I almost feel like this movie got canceled we should have gotten a trailer months ago that means they aren't comfortable with the end result
@@outpost31737 I think it’s going to be canceled soon
Where can I see this trailer?
That's what I've been asking people. Lol
And...its 2024...apparently (so far) the Warner Bros have done what the Frog brother's could not: drive a stake thru the heart of this vampire (movie) before it ever 😉 saw the light of day... 😅
We needed this director for IT
He made a balls of part 2
Mr. Harlow scares me!
Mr Harlow? Are you shitting me !!? 😅
Seems I was right about re shoots and the production being in big trouble. Lewis Pullman said in an interview this month they are going back to Ipswich for reshoots. The whole production has been pathetic and clouded in secrecy. My interest is now zero. Reshoots are almost always a disaster and some of the scenes sound ridiculous.
Please explain? Why ridiculous?
Any news on the movie Jeremy?
Hi guys, for us (by us, I mean me) freak shows that are old. Can you confirm if it’s period correct? 1960’a.
This sounds amazing..... But its BARLOW. Not HARLOW🙄🙄🙄👍
I was really looking forward to seeing salems lot.but looks like WB as screwed the fans and scrapped it
Bring it on! Salem's Lot new movie !!! 🙂👌👌🙏🙏💯
WB is still being d!cks about releasing it
@@ericcartman7361 could u please elaborate further on your remark ? Thanks
Well, Eric, they appear to have " cold feet " about giving it some kinda release. That's all I know- sorry !! 😕
This movie is gonna be awesome? Maybe that's why it's going straight to Streaming! No theatrical release!!! 😅
I think William Sadler is playing Kurt Barlow 🤔
He confirmed in an interview he’s not
@@ericcartman7361 Oh really that's weird because I read a few articles that said he was playing Barlow but it was never confirmed from William himself interesting he's probably playing Hubie
@@lambsaucehunter9316 that’s because IMDB keeps listing him as Barlow
@@ericcartman7361yeah I saw that but he said his character is like an Easter egg which is interesting
@@lambsaucehunter9316 I’m going with either Weasel, Bill Norton, or Hubbie Marsten. I hope he’s playing Parkins Gillespie.
Other than "Salem's Lot", my other favourite Stephen King book/movie was "Pet Sematary". But they really butchered the remake. Glad to hear they didn't with "Salem's Lot".
I hope the depiction of Kurt Barlow is closer to the book this time around.
I hope they don't I've seen enough Dracula movies.
@@outpost31737 That's fine, but if they aren't going to follow the book, there's no reason to call it Salem's Lot.
@@monsieurtarzan4249 It's true that books can't always be easily translated to film, but, in my opinion, no one has yet tried to put the book version of Barlow on film - at least not the first book version. I'm sure you know that there are two book versions of Barlow: the Salem's Lot book version and the Dark Tower series book version. They aren't the same description. I don't know why they are so different, but my guess is that King changed Barlow's description in the Dark Tower series to align more with the Reggie Nalder version everyone saw in the TV series. The Salem's Lot book version describes Barlow as more human-like in appearance and behavior - even speaking to other characters - Dud, Corey, Mark, Father Callahan. The Dark Tower book version describes him as more monster-like, a disfigured mutant who can't close his mouth because of his protruding teeth. That Barlow can only hiss and growl. He can't talk. The Reggie Nalder Barlow from the 70s TV series fits that second description - again, my guess is that is because King aligned the Dark Tower description of Barlow to Reggie Nalder's TV portrayal. I have to disagree about the Rutger Hauer Barlow. I don't think his Barlow matched either book description. His version was ridiculous. His dialogue in the Petrie kitchen scene is laugh-out-loud bad. His version of Barlow is, as you said, simply corny. What I would love to see, on the other hand, is a film version of Barlow that stays closer to the original book description. This would require an actor who can depict true evil simply with his eyes. The actor who I believe could pull it off is Christoph Waltz. He already has the accent that would match the book's description, and if you've ever seen his portrayal of that Nazi in Inglorious Basterds, you know he can play an utterly evil character without having to wear monster makeup. He can convey it with merely his eyes. Anyway, I rambled on more than I intended. Sorry 🥸
I would like to see something like Jerry Dandridge in Tom Holland's Fright night were Jerry can be suave , good-looking and charming one minute , the a total monster the next . It worked great in fright Night and indeed Chris Surandon , who played Jerry , would have made a realy good Barlow , I feel . Who agrees ? 🤔
@@VogonPoet67 works better as a monster who barely talks or some telepathy thing don’t need him to be some charming aristocratic nothing scary about that
this movie is gonna be so missing in action. LOL where's the movie?? Haven't seen it yet.
This director should have made IT
Still no trailer. What a joke. This production is in deep trouble that's my feeling.
Exactly, the fact they’re taking this long doesn’t give me hope for this adaptation. Wish this was a HBO miniseries, not a 3hr movie.
@@ericcartman7361 It's not a three hour production it's been trimmed down to 2hrs I believe. No trailer three months before the release tells me these idiots did the test screenings and they bombed. Not a single advert or poster. There will be an announcement this week for sure release date pushed back and re shoots. I've lost interest already.
@@outpost31737 and some of their casting is sh!t, some are good, but mostly sh!t.
I think the film has been shelved. Total idiots for releasing the trailer a few weeks ago and now nothing. Absolute jokers. Sep 9th not happening.
@@johnryder8464 I’m guessing they realized last minute that Salem’s Lot is too long form of a book to be a 2hr movie, and it most likely will flop. Knowing modern day Stephen King he’ll praise it like all the other crappy adaptations of his work because he’s too busy being a nut job on Twitter than good adaptations of his work.
Im sure the trailer was great, but arent all trailers? This movie is not going to make money! WB needs to RECAST this movie! Casting is terrible! I hope WB is listening. Take the product you have as a loss and start fresh! Have some headliners for Gods sake. Everyone in the Salems Lot community is frustrated beyond belief! The story is one of Kings most cherished by fans and the new generation deserves better.
Chris Pine or Ryan Gosling as Ben Mears
Jayma Mays as Susan Norton
Brian Cranston as Matt Burke
Brendan Gleeson as Father Callahan
Paul Giammati as Larry Crockett
Christoph Waltz as Richard Straker
Rufus Sewell as Kurt Barlow
William Sadler as Hubie Marsten
Rest of casting is fine.
WB do something. You could have a moneymaking classic on your hands like its predecessor IT!
Let's hope it's not being made by the guy who wrote the screenplay for Annabel and the nun eh? Don't get me wrong, I pray that they get this right, but it doesn't seem hopeful.
Dauberman was a terrible choice for this story
It is the same producers at IT then why was IT not scary?
Barlow's a woman in the new movie! Anyone else heard this one ? 😡
They mise we’ll forget this new one no trailer in 2023
its barlow noob
I hope not. In the book Barlow wasn't a nosferatu-like monster from the "Symphony of horror" original movie. That's the most important question the director must answer - is the new movie A REMAKE of the miniseries - or an adaptation of the book? I really would like it to be the latter.
I hope it’s the nosferatu vampire it makes the 79 version so creepy that thing is truly inhuman
Wish they made this an HBO miniseries instead of a 3hr movie.
@@Poobell1 Me too. I've seen Dracula it's been done before.
You’ll enjoy Jean Harlowe’s husband
Suspicious of this upcoming film, because "It: Chapter 2" was not so good.
That was a different movie from a different director?!? Good grief.
@@EmlynBoyle Same writer.
You're not going to get Salem's Lot next year at the theatres. Straight to Netflix.
It was licensed to HBO but that's not happening now.
😢 I wish it was in theatres
There's just no topping the Hooper film. Can the new movie be good? Yes but it's just gonna be hard pressed to beat the original. I honestly will give it a shot but these days I don't expect much.
harlow wtf
Salems Lot = YES. Elvis = Yes. DC Comics = NO.
Like all the horror reboots done from classic movies from the 70's and 80's so far this one its gonna be crap once more. I can't stand the new movies from It parts 1 + 2 so I'm not optimistic at all about this thing. I problably skimm through it when its available for free in the internet. Until then, give me the Tobe Hooper's masterpiece and forget the silly 2004 remake and this 2023 POS! I hate cgi and horror bs done nowadays. The fact they aren't gonna to mantein Barlow as a Nosferatuesque figure shows how wrong they are. Even King congratulated Tobe Hooper for the changes. Some things work better on book but not so good on movies or tv.
I wouldn't worry about the remake it's not coming out. Just wait until October for an update.
I totally agree I think apart from cgi fucking movies up the cast and location are never realistic especially the cast have everyday normal people helps and not Hollywood perfect looking types ruines it in my opinion
Apparently there are no other horror novels out there that can be adapted for the screen, so we just have to keep remaking the same ones over and over...
Isn’t this the first Salem’s Lot remake?
@@hmvaa there was a remake in 2004 with Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland and Rutger Hauer. Was terrible to be honest. Will never beat the 1979 version.
99% of the time I absolutely agree. Yet the novel is such a dark, complex story that neither the '79 or TNT series got. It's the town. Not Barlow on display, but Mabel Wertz and Dud Rogers. It's an evil Gilmore Girls. Some of the most frightening scenes in literature happen in the novel and have yet to be touched.
@@lawrenceburgess5027 lol the 79 film was perfect. Sometimes going note for note from the book don't make a good movie. I love the book but I really love the 79 Hooper flick. No way anything they do now will be better.
@@lawrenceburgess5027 Agreed
Sorry...Hate remake bullshit. Yes men right here need to be positive because you will lose audience.
Not a remake. Another adaptation. Never been made for theaters.
This hasn't aged well lol. Total disaster.
2004 mini series is best so far. Barlow was NOT a bald vampire in the book, I think the 1979 TV version was being lazy to save time and limit Barlow
There are many people that would disagree with you
@@dudelebowskithe2nd373 but he's right. Barlow from the mini-series was a rip-off from "Symphony of horror" movie. In the book he was more like Bela Lugosi from Dracula 1931 movie, not graf Orlok from "Symphony of horror" from 1922 though. That's the most important question - is this new movie A REMAKE of 1979 miniseries - or adaptation of the book?
Nah bro the nosferatu Barlow in the 79 version is my favourite aspect he is monstrous and creepy how he doesn’t talk and just makes noises will be very disappointed if they don’t go this way in the new version
@@Poobell1 If they went that way, They need to mix it up abd not have him be a growling/alien looking vampire. It won't work today. Just like slow walking zombies don't work today.
@@weaponsofwarfare9537 It would totally work today and the movie will be a flop if they don't do it like the first film. It worked in Midnight Mass which loosely follows the same story.
You didn't read that book four times, Harlow?? It's okay Bud, I know you gotta rock your channel, 🤣
