Great analysis! My theory is that the foul-smelling, dusty place full of waste and smoke was supposed to be our world sometime in the future (quite cynical, I guess). The first indication was the "unnaturally smooth" surface which Ciri after a while understands is a road (an asphalt road?). The second one is that when Kelpie goes down a slope and onto a heap of waste, she steps on some "strange pots" which doesn't crumble or crunch but rather burst softly (half-degraded, plastic bottles?).

This chapter was basically the Witcher-Multiverse. Often wondered if the reason dragons can be found in mythology across the world is because people from earlier eras were finding dinosaur bones. It’s rare to find full skeletons. If you found those skulls, with no knowledge of dinosaurs, you think they were dragons.
Man, that near reunion with Geralt was so frustrating. Forest Gramps was suspicious from the start. The whole section was creepy as hell. Really good thing she didn’t eat anything.

I mean, birds do exist in The Witcher's world, so yeah, they have dinosaurs. Now, when it comes to the exact extinct species that we had in our world, I don't really know (the games do have items called "Valuable Fossils", but we don't know the specific creatures in them).
There are creatures who are certainly heavily inspired by dinosaurs, though, like the vigilosaur Ciri fought in the Claremont arena when Bonhart had her. Based on the vague description, it was most likely a glorified dromaeosaurid (and an artificial creature, as they say), and there are also beasts like cockatrices, basilisks and griffins that, to some extent, seem like straight up dinosaurs, but that's because a lot of their designs is based on birds and birds are dinosaurs haha.

I have wondered if the dark, bad smelling place with the dust is a post apocalyptic time after a volcano eruption or meteor strike. It being dark because the sun is blocked by dust particles and the bad smell could be sulphur or biological decay?
I've not read past this chapter so not sure if Ciri can also travel across the universe, but if so this could have been another planet.
