Here we do a table top review of the Uberti S&W No 3 44 Russian. This is a very well made handgun. The quality far surpasses my expectations. Well worth the cost.
I have an original 1874 S&W Russian Model 3, ( Russian contract) . I'm looking for an enthusiastic collector who can preserve and make use of this great piece of History. Please do let me know if anyone is interested in buying it.
always wanted a top break.. fell in love with this gun after using it in battlefield 1 of all things.. its on the shopping list now.. very nice review. thanks. really with it came in .357 instead of 38 special though..
The Russian comes in either 45 Colt or 44 Russian however the Schofield is available in 38 Special. I'd love to see the Russian model offered in 38 Special. If you were to get the 45 Colt version you can send it to a gunsmith that I know of who'll modify the cylinder to use 45 ACP Moon Clips. I have thought of doing that.
In addition to the upgrades to the actions strength as given in the video, the modern reproductions have heat treated cylinders. Smith & Wesson didn't begin heat treating all of their revolver cylinders until sometime in the 1920s, with exceptions being US military contract Model of 1917 revolvers.
there is a "schofield" model of the same as this at my LGS which doesn't have the middle-finger spur or "hump back" on the grip. how desirable would these features on the "russian" be vs the one at my LGS? how much better handling is there really?
The New Frontier Model is like the Russian but without the spur. I like it because it looks pleasing to me. The spur helps in a few ways but it's not critical to function.
@Ken Kaneki I think it can fire but I'm not use it I'm used handmade cartridges... This gun is from my grangranfather who died on battle for Skadar on Bojana this gun is from that time and one bullet rifle Werndl-Holub M1867 and saber 👌
I think it was either a mistake on their part or a way to make it to where someone couldn't pass it off as an original. It's a really fun gun to shoot either way.
Badass gun? Totally! Good enough to be carried for defensive use? Hell yes! Worth $1000? Nope.... It's an absolutely badass revolver but I wouldn't pay more than $600 - $700 bucks for it....
I’ve always wanted one of these. Appreciate the thorough hands on review, well done.
Cyrillic writing says: "Third russian weaponry plant A. Uberty Italy".
Nice to see more lefty's. Great video on this classic gun.
Looks like an excellent quality revolver. Look forward to shooting it!
This is the video on this gun I have been looking for. Thank you
You're most welcome. It's quality is superb! It's accurate and very fun to shoot.
I’ve always been intrigued by those. Great video!
Thank you! We are going to branch out into individual guns and loads.
The Flaming Pisspot!
Sean Hazelwood - IYAAYAS!
The Russian script on the barrel more or less says "Made at the Uberti factory in Italy"
I've wanted one of those so badly for years.
I have too. Ever since I first saw a Navy Arms one many years ago. Believe me it's well worth the cost.
Me too

Do it. You won't regret it. ;)

Lot's of good info here
The inscription on the barrel roughly translates as followed: 3-rd Russian arms factory A. Uberti Italy.

that a 6.5'' tube amigo
I would be nice to have Corbin make a set of 246 grain replica swage dies to go with your press.
He will make them!! I may get a set of dies for paper patching the 45-90
You are Super!! Super Beauty!!! Thank You!!!
from taylors & company you can also order this same model in 45 LC, what are the pros and cons between the two ammo types can somone explain please
.45 Colt by far and large is much more easily found and cheaper than .44 Special is.
@Ken Kaneki it can depending on the powder charge
@Ken Kaneki id go with the .45. Heavier bullet, will penetrate that much deeper with all other things being equal.
*Why Uberti don't make the S&W No.3 Russian "Second Model" with 7" Barrel? Why They make the only S&W No.3 Russian "Third Model" with 6.5" Barrel ??*
I want one in 45 colt
Man I would love if uberti would , turn the Russian to a 45; and give it nice blueing and upgraded grips, like they do for the American versions..
Very esthetic weapon! And very aristocratic!
Is that barrel too big to carry everyday?
Oh very much so. This is a very large handgun. It's more for reenactments and nostalgia than anything practical.
@@ammosmith what about the Schofields with the 5 inch barrel?
@@southslastrebel2575 they make a 3 inch barrel. The 5 inch is still a big handgun.
@@ammosmith ok I gotcha ya. Thank you
I have eone of these from 1871 I think and it works 👌
@Ken Kaneki yes 👌😊

Should have been chambered in .44 Special or Magnum which can fire .44 Russian by default.
44 Special yes. Magnum no...the frame isn't strong enough. Although measuring the chamber it does look like it was chambered in 44 special.
@@ammosmith Have you tried loading it with .44 Special?
@@brottarnacke Not yet. When I do it'll be a reduced load.
@@ammosmith I'm mostly curious if the longer .44 Special cases will fit in the .44 Russian chambers.
@@brottarnacke I measured the chamber and it's 44 Special length. The only issue is they don't eject as well as the 44 Russian cases.
The only thing I would change about this is the spur I don't like it.
They make one. It's called the New Frontier but only available in 45 Colt
It should said third model
But instead say third gun factory
🤔
I think it was either a mistake on their part or a way to make it to where someone couldn't pass it off as an original. It's a really fun gun to shoot either way.

I think they just shorten
Instead type "third model"
But they print 3rd. Russian Gun Factory............
