I'm kind of fascinated by this. Got me wondering if skill ratings are extremely different in different regions of the country or people are just bad judges watching games they're not playing in.
@@smorr220220 it's the latter - they don't realize handling shots from other high level players is different than handling a shot from their 62yr old neighbor Marge in their rec game
@@villbuzeep2043 The camera slows the ball down, and like you say, people don't realize these balls are shaped so much better, they are much trickier to hit. That said, in the first match, in the middle segment, I was really cringing at the number of balls driven into the tape by the team that eventually won. They actually display quite a lot of 4.5+ skill, and I think consistency is the big issue that that team. Edit: On another thread they are all 4.8 to 5.3 rated, but they were tired after a long day. By the time I finished the whole match, I figured out that the guy in red hat a very hot paddle, and the guy in black wasn't respecting this enough in his footwork as he ran to the net, especially if the guy in read was able to take a step into the transition area from the baseline before unleashing.
Guy in black shirt, great player. Also when his team in the first game had a chance to win the game, he just wanted to bang. Third and 5th shot drops vs banging I believe would have won the game for them. Patience then finish.
@ronbroberg3022 I agree. As his partner, we were both mentally drained at the end of a 14 hour day. I honestly didn't even have the energy to tell him patience. I was hoping his drives worked 😅. This happened in both games unfortunately.
I’m a little confused by your question. I’ll say this though the positions are different than normal because I believe one team was stacking in various ways. Typically if receiving you only switch if you stack and game ends on odd numbers but usually you’ll stay in position.
I was thinking the same. The team in white constantly hits a 3rd shot drive and then tries to slow it down on the 5th shot. Why not just hit a 3rd shot drop. The dude in black is just a banger. Annoying to watch.

@@ocelotarmory ya the way the guy in the black clothing drives 2-3x thats 4.0 level. 4.5-5.0 its usually drive then drop and havent seen an ernie or ATP yet. So ya. California is awesome! but stronger players in the socal area since that is a tennis playground.
This match illustrates the biggest problems in tournament pickleball. The first one is that no one cares to enforce the serve rules any more. I don’t understand why there are serving rules if they are never enforced. I saw lots of serves that looked questionable, if not illegal. Maybe it is the camera angle, but I don’t think so. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone ever been called for an illegal serve at any level. The second problem is that the rating system does not mean anything. How do they determine or keep track of who is a 4.0 or a 4.5 or whatever? The numbers mean different things to different people and it is that type of inconsistency which leads to comments like the ones you see here. It is silly if some tells you you are a 3.5 one day and a 4.0 the next depending on where you play or who you play against, etc. in my opinion, given where I play recreationally these teams are 4.0. The third problem with tournament pickleball is the lack of line judges. If they can’t afford to pay refs, at least they should have teams who are not playing at the time serve as line judges. There was a key point at the end of the first game that was decided on a questionable call.
Y’all don’t realize that nationals uses UTPR (most tournaments don’t enter data into UTPR) and forces players to play at their UTPR level. So most likely they didn’t even have a choice
Not 4.0 players... Maybe the dark shirt female. No one else can dink or drop the ball but the dark shirt woman. Boring poor shot selection... Bashing from the baseline is a bad choice.
