I've been busy adding lots of lovely accessories to the kitchen and I hope this video will give you some ideas and inspiration for your own miniature scene, as well as some displaying techniques. I also show you how to make some washing-up brushes and a tea canister cabinet.
If you'd like to have a go at making the dish drainer, you'll find the tutorial in my book, Making Dolls House Miniatures in 1/12th Scale, which is available from Amazon - along with my other 4 books of tutorials - just search for Julie Warren.
I really hope you enjoy this video, until next time, Happy Miniaturing!
    Take care and stay safe,
    Julie, xx

The creativity and vision of Di Vinci, the solution finding of Einstein, the execution of Michelangelo, and the patience of Monica of Hippo. Of course, none of those qualities are worth a darn without the enthusiasm of a ten year old disguised as an adult. Kudos to you once again, and thank you for the fine accompaniment to my morning cup!

I find it funny that we tend not to create perfect dream homes in miniatures, but places that suit idea of cozy and warm. This kitchen is so lovely and has the old-fashion aesthetic I love. Even though I avoid clutter, I like the look in miniature b/c it seems to be a place where good food is prepared daily.

    • @JulieWarren

I agree; in my real home, I like everything to be hidden away, but in miniature - the more the better! I think it's a lot more fun to create, too! :)

I am extremely happy that this video popped up in my feed so very early this morning, it's literally only 6AM and I'm awake because my husband just left for work. I suffer with severe insomnia as a result of dealing with multiple life threatening health issues, multiple traumatic events and experiences and hospitalizations that left my husband, daughter and I with severe PTSD and other things that combined resulted in my insomnia as once I was finally able to go home and I was still on a very strict schedule for my medications I would stay up much later than my husband and daughter so not to disturb their sleep and schedules for work and school since I could get some sleep after they had left the house each morning if I was lucky. The island you created looks a lot like the antique piece of furniture that we use as an island.

This is a lovely selection of little projects. I'm just at the stage of filling my little kitchen with furniture and accessories, so plenty of inspiration. I made a sink unit with a drawer and then asked my Twitter followers what I should put in the drawer, and now I have a massive list of odds and ends to work through, which will spill into drawers in the table and dresser! Things like that are good for when you don't feel like concentrating on a bigger project like a piece of furniture. I'll be making a washing up brush too now!

I haven’t done on this before, but making the brushes. It seems to me it would be a lot easier if you glued the little brush the base body of it to the top of the little paintbrush head and waited till it dries so all the bristles would stay in their uniform shape, and then you can snip it away from the paintbrush and then you know you have something to hold it by if you’re holding the paintbrush stick until it just driesand you have a couple you know you can use it a couple times, but you have more control over the bristles. Hanging onto your little brush base.

For the "washing up" brushes, what if you wrapped the bristles in masking tape before cutting them off the brush? Then you have a nice tidy cylinder to glue onto the little brush head, and then remove the tape when the glue is dry.

I dont know how I managed to miss this but all the brushes came at exactly the right moment as I just made a miniature saddle and saddle stand that has the box bit below for the grooming kit etc. Now I can fill it up. I have some tiny hoof picks that I made from paper clips but brushes have always defeated me....I cant wait to make them! I found a little jam jar mould on AliExpress its for 3 jars and I use UV resin for them. Theyre solid and cant be filled but there are others that can be. With my ones I just colour the resin to make marmalade or jam or whatever and paint the lids which look like standard jam jar lids. Theyre great as shelf/cupboard fillers and only take minutes with one of the little UV torches. I will use the wire trick with these as they could be made to look like mason jars if left clear too.
Your little shelves and counter tops look amazing now you have dressed them...its wonderful!

I love the way your kitchen is looking, and the shine on your counter tops is lovely, The little bowl looks great with the fruit in. One thing I noticed is that you have not replaced the doors to each room why is that if I may ask ? I have to buy new doors for my house and fit them also, But I have taken the inside door surrounds off since some were damaged and I really don't know what to use to make more, Please could you suggest something for me ? This is my first ever dolls house and I so desperately want to make it perfect. Thank you so much Julie,
Stay safe and have a lovely weekend, xx

Thank you so much. I shall be making the doors and door surrounds once the rooms are done, so I can make and fit them all at the same time.

The soap container looks like just cut a bit of hot glue stick and put a bead on top and some wire in that. That would totally work wouldn’t it.

    • @JulieWarren
      @JulieWarren  Před 4 lety +1

That would absolutely work. That's what making miniatures is all about - looking at something and seeing it made from different bits and bobs! :)

    Hello Julie,
I am a big fan of you and your work. What particularly impresses me is how exactly you work. My question now is what you use to cut / saw the wooden parts. Can you recommend me something there. I come from Switzerland, but I have an idea what they use.
I'm really looking forward to many more contributions from you.
    Kind regards
    Brigitte

I’m not sure why, but when you accidentally dropped a potato next to the eggs, and your comment struck me funny. I suppose it’s because it’s something that almost any miniaturist might have happened to them.
