ENd of the first day we made it to Sturgis before we lost daylight. Sturgis is of course famous for the Sturgis motorcycle rally that occurs in August. It was much quieter this evening with almost all the bars closed up for the season but there were plenty of signs still out about not wearing biker colors or bringing in weapons. It's actually a pretty small little town but still in a beautiful part of the country. I hope you enjoy this treadmill travel walk. Thanks to our Patreon supporters. -H

Wikipedia:
Sturgis is a city in Meade County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 6,627 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Meade County and is named after Civil War general Samuel D. Sturgis.
Sturgis is notable as the location of one of the largest annual motorcycle events in the world: the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which lasts for 10 days beginning on the first Friday of August. It attracts large numbers of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world. Sturgis is also noted for hosting WCW's Hog Wild/Road Wild events from 1996 to 1999
Sturgis was founded in 1878. It was originally named Scooptown, because many of the residents "scooped up" their pay from nearby Fort Meade. Its name was later changed to Sturgis in honor of the Civil War Union General Samuel D. Sturgis. In 1889, Sturgis was designated as the county seat of the newly formed Meade County.
As part of the vast Ellsworth Air Force Base complex, the land north of Sturgis was dotted with 50 Minuteman missile silos. The L5 is 3.5 miles (5.6 km) from the center of the town.
Towards the end of the summer of 2015, the Full Throttle Saloon, one of the largest and best-known bars in Sturgis, burned down.

I think I saw you on the Sturgis live cams on CZcams Henry 😋 love your vids as always especially the small towns 🥰
Oh hahahah. That's awesome -H
I was there in November, 2001. I was driving a new fire engine from Appleton, WI, TO Auburn, WA. It was snowing...
Wow. That's a long way to drive a fire truck. Thanks for watching. -H
Thanks a lot Henry for showing us this beautiful city. And your videography is spot on as always!
Thank you very much! -H
South Dakota has great weather for walking. Quality videos.
Thanks as always. -H
Nice place too. There is but one thing I don't like about most of South Dakota: It is frequently visited by tornadoes. I just hate tornadoes.
I wasn't aware there are so many. -H
Thank you Henry for sharing I am retired and have been looking at properties in both Rapid City and Sioux Falls. I have not decided yet i'm going to visit both to get a feel can anyone share if you grew up in both cities. Thank you
Glad you found these helpful. I really enjoyed my brief time in both those cities. I think you'll enjoy them. -H
This is wild: I'm watching "Comedy Monster" by Jim Gaffigan on Netflix right now and I got his biker convention super spreader event joke only because I watched this wonderful walk of yours earlier today! I mean what are the odds?
Haha. I just watched that one too! 👋 -H
My son and oldest daughter lived in sturgis. the drugs are there like any gathering but they are making it a family gathering now. And it's not half bad. You were right when you said that there was the parting place but if you want the music and partying you need to go out to buffalo chip. Kid Rock plays there a lot.but of course he own the buffalo chip. And again not as rough as it used to be. My daughter worked at the convenience store for several years. The guards have a heavy presence there and throw out the rally. Sturgis also has the Mustang rally there around the end of August or the first of September. The black hills also has the Corvette rally in early summer.
Hi Susan, Thanks so much for sharing this local knowledge and bit of a fact check. Glad to have the details on these rallies. It's such a beautiful area. All the best. -H
I like this side of Sturgis. I'm pretty sure I would hate it in August. Way too many people. I have a mess of suggestions for your trip. Near St. Louis are the Cahokia Mounds. Small and possibly too short to walk, but well worth a visit for educational purposes! In central NC, check out Jordan Lakes. Lots of walking paths and gorgeous scenery, then of course Ashville and the Biltmore would be stunning. Finally, in Cint, I'd check out the Cincinnati Zoo, one of the best in the country. Still, I'd probably do Eden Park for walking trails, with fantastic views of the city and the Ohio River Valley. The Riverfront Park is a short and easy walk. However, Devou Park across the river in Covington may have better views of the City.
Great suggestions Mags. Thanks so much. -H
@CityWalks, do you know what kind of wildlife are there in Sturgis. I noticed that when you said you was on Willard Street, near the downtown area, there were mountains there. I am considerating relocating. But, I have no desire to live among animals. Especially the dangerous ones. I do not want to go for a morning stroll among the wildcats, bears, alligators, crocodiles, coyotes, snakes of any kind, etc., etc., etc.,.
Thanks for the question and for watching. However, it is a small town in the mountains, so if you don’t like wildlife, I think that it’s probably not a good match.
Nice walk
Thanks so much. -H
