I speculate LMT tooling was worn out when that bolt face was machined. Tough steel so cutting tools need to be regularly maintained and replaced. Enjoyed both autopsy videos 👍
Excellent catch as always, Chad. Folks reading this, listen to what he preaches. He's the most solid resource on the web, no holds barred. As he frequently repeats, this is just an example of one. LMT is an upper tier manufacturer that deserve their respect in the industry.. They, along with any other company at their level of concern about QC, will make this right with the owner in less than a heartbeat.
Instructor Chad honestly looking at each part as it is.....you always say “this is a sample of one” if they are that emotionally invested in their BRAND that clear objective facts make them attack you, then they are not ready for a real gun. A blanket and participation trophy might serve them better. You can buy a resting spot where you do not have to try, train, and be ready to drop what isn’t working and grab what is working. There is better QC’d AR’s. If you run in for years and maintain it but still think of it as the day you bought it you are fooling yourself.
@@vgamedude12 Elevating their status with a purchase. No doubt the quality may be higher but the gauge is unbiased. If you speed that much money, make sure you got what you paid for is all. Don’t get angry if a “lesser” gun is on par with your favorite gun.
Every manufacturer of any kind of part you can think of, even high end name brand products, is going to have some lemons. The difference is that when a product fails the owner of the failed product tells EVERYBODY about it. When the product performs as it is intended people usually don't broadcast that their product is functioning properly, they just use it and enjoy it unless they are specifically asked about it. Good videos showing why a part is malfunctioning or has failed.
Another great video. Troubleshooting and diagnosis is what separates the truly knowledgeable in this and a lot of other fields. Great content and Chad does a great job in all his videos explaining what he's doing and why.
That’s very disappointing I have several of those bolts and the price of them you would think they would have a little nicer machine work maybe a little quality control
I like to thank you for the very detailed info-clips and am impressed by the special tools you use and I bet a dollar to a doughnut that 99.9 % of your watchers do not have even the lower prices items in their gun toolboxes.

Great video, straight to the point. How common is this type of spec. failure? Do you think it was just a case of face cutting tool wear that wasn’t detected? Any eccentricity/out of round condition noted or was it just simply a undersized ID?
I can tell you that I just received a brand new one and it is failing to eject. And am also having a hard time getting any help from LMT. Pretty displeased with a $300 bolt.
Companies that CAN get extremely good tolerances seem to forget that maintenance/precision of your tooling is absolutely necessary.. there's a reason some things cost so much. If I dropped that much on a bolt, I'd expect it to cook me dinner at least twice before saying she won't F anymore.. Jokes aside, I'd be angry.
i got one. i had to send it back because of bad pitting in the channels in the carrier it self was papper thin and splitting. i think these are only batch tested. great product from what i hear though.
Something that would go a long way towards making these videos even more valuable as instructional resources would be to include a short clip of the malfunction in action. I understand that isn't practical or safe in all circumstances, but in this instance a short clip of the odd ejection pattern might be valuable.
This goes to show even God Level AR Manufacturers can have manufacturing issues. LMT Enhanced Bolt and Smith Enterprises Hard Chrome Bolts are my go too . I've been getting a lot more S.E. lately because the LMT are rarely in stock anymore . I'd like to think the best kept secret was LMT Enhanced Bolt. Now everyone knows they are rock solid.
Chrome SEI carrier groups are what I was using before LMT, only issue I ever had was some gas key staking coming loose once. Ron fixed it and sent an extra set of screws in case it ever happened again. Cool guy to talk with, he was around early in the AR game.
@@CubanPete Smith Enterprises doesn't stake their gas key screws . the ones I have don't have then staked . They are awesome. I think they make the best Chrome Products . Also their Vortex Flash Hider is my go too.

Hi sir, amazing videos. Do you offer inspection service? I’d love to spec out an Lmt bcg I want to buy since it’s so darn much money. Thanks in advance James
Also I believe this makes another very good point that even top shelf manufacturers have products leave that are not in spec and fail thier purposes. We are people/humans, and all of us sometimes make mistakes.
Do you know what metal lmt actually uses ?.. thank you for all the videos it cuts through all the b.s out there and you always have the why behind everything you do
I heard it's a nickel steel, but LMT don't publish it. So it's a mystery steel for now. Nickel based super alloys have been used in jet engines for heat resistance and strength. I'm not saying it is, but might explain the high price. Inconel gas tubes are an example of such an alloy.
No excuses for poor quality from LMT products which cost twice as much as BCM! 100% inspect everything if you have to! I'd be pissed if I got bad parts from LMT! Supposed to be better than everything else.
You people do enough of these videos that you would think you would spring for a tripod for the camera instead of fumbling one-handed while trying to explain technical issues.

I don't have a problem with LMT at all.

Really appreciate and enjoy all your videos. Thank you for giving us such in depth information.
What this shows is that ALL parts are subject to issues reguardless of price. Factory equiptment is always subject to failure.

I have a lmt enhanced bolt with ejection issues. can I send to you for diagnosis/ repair?
great vids
I had a bolt that had the bottom 2 lugs sheer right off. Can someone give me an idea of what might cause that?
Very intiresting. What is the tolerance for this diameter?
According to the M16 BCG technical drawings the spec on the bolt face is 0.380" - 0.385", so this is notably undersized.
Would the tight bolt face also lead to the springs wearing out possibly faster as there is more resistance on the round during ejection/extraction?
You would think so ?
To steal a "" where does he get all those wonderful toys?
He buys them. What a silly question.
BCM Would be great when you get a chance.
I like working in my socks sometimes too 😁
Would a carbide cutter not do the job?
Shame because that is a very nice bolt.

This! The is no reason for cheese handheld phone video these days.
Garbage. Normal eyesight can tell this bolt is toast! Did I miss something?
LMT is junk. My Def2000 lower from them has worse final machining than my Anderson. Most over hyped brand out there. All DD BCM or colt from now on.
