US Air Date: September 12, 2023
Starring: Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds
Network: FX
Synopsis: The boys are back in town.
Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) navigate running the third oldest professional football club in the world. Welcome to Wrexham is a docuseries tracking the dreams and worries of Wrexham, a working-class town in North Wales, UK, as two Hollywood stars take ownership of the town’s historic yet struggling football club.
In 2020, Rob and Ryan teamed up to purchase the 5th tier Red Dragons in the hopes of turning the club into an underdog story the whole world could root for. The worry? Rob and Ryan have no experience in football or working with each other. From Hollywood to Wales, from the pitch to the locker room, the front office to the pub, Welcome to Wrexham will track Rob and Ryan’s crash course in football club ownership and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town counting on two actors to bring some serious hope and change to a community that could use it.

Ryan and Rob have made an ordinary city and a small football club so famous across the world, they have done wonders for Wrexham and Wales through this show and their club takeover. I expect them to be in the premier league in the next 10 years or so but before that they will need a major stadium size increase.
We have to Messi...sorry guysssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
And made themselves lots of money
PL in 10 years would be almost impossible but good to dream. Similar stories have happened I guess.
Luton Town just did it @@michaelfoley906
Wrexham is just south of Liverpool. Should be no problem filling the larger stadium with ex-Everton fans once they go down.
I have never cried so many happy tears watching a documentary series. They've really caught the magic of what it's like to be a fan of any sport, but it's the human interest side, the attention to the community that really draws the whole thing together. The results on the pitch matter so much to the identity of the people in the stands, but it's the lives beyond the stadium, the causes they support, the people they include, the businesses they helped to resurrect, the history and legacy they honour, and the international fandom they've fostered that have really shown the power of what happens when we all come together, even for a 90 minute match. Even if you're not a Wrexham fan, or even a football fan, or you've never attended a single match before, watch the series for the people. It is truly inspiring what they've put together in this short a span of time, and it gives all the glory and praise to the people who hold their town together.
^^^^ THIS.....100% 👍
Feels like real life ted lasso and I love it lmao
I think thats why we enjoy Ted Lasso so much, even though some elements are obviously fantastical. There is a thread of truth that runs through it and anyone who supports a team thru tough times and the good times will recognise it.
Watching Ted Lasso is what caused me to watch Welcome to Wrexham and definitely increased my interest in and knowledge of soccer/football. It really is a beautiful, frustrating, exciting at times and boring at others, kind of game that draws you in if you let it.
I have been a fan of this sport since I was a child. I consider this important to note because I am giving my opinion on this series as an insider and from Europe where soccer is called football and there are loud fans in the stands, with smoke, pyro show, choreographies covering the entire stand. Where this game is an integral part of religion and community. Where every settlement (yes, even small villages) has a team, but rather more. Of course, this also applies to South and Latin America, Africa and Asia, that is to almost the entire world apart from North America.
If I had to introduce this sport to a person who is completely left cold by football, I would show her/him this series. This series defines exactly what football is, in more subtle terms, what football means to me. It perfectly demonstrates the power of community building, the way only football knows how, like nothing else on this planet.
I hope that the 2nd season will not be screwed up the way Drive to Survive was screwed up by the makers, fictional dramas because that's what North American viewers want...I enjoyed the first season of Drive to Survive, from the 2nd season it is unwatchable for me, I tried but they turned it into lame Hollywood crap. Too bad.
Somehow I'm not afraid of that, these 2 guys know, feel their stuff better than the Netflix colleagues. Maybe I think that because Rob and Ryan are part of it, they know in their bones what it's all about.
There is no Hollywood or any other movie that is more dramatic than the REALITY of FOOTBALL as we saw in the first season of Welcome to Wrexham. The last season of Wrexham AFC was like this and this can be a good sign that the 2nd season of the series will be special too. A milestone in filmmaking, a milestone in football storytelling.
The funniest thing is that we owe it to two North Americans who didn't know anything about football 3 years ago.
And finally, the last sentence of the first season.
Rob McElhenney: "Next year we're going to achieve promotion I promise, this town deserves it."
The show has already been edited, so there's no time to change anything if they've gone a different route. I agree, I hope it's similar, but I also hope there's not as many episodes. We will see anyway.
The latest match against Swindon sums up football, sums up the spirit of Wrexham, highly recommend looking at the highlights of the game. Its why we love football so much.
I'm crying as a Chicagoan, man. Love good sports stories.
Watch “Unicorn Town” as a counter weight. A great documentary about an underdog American Football team.
This is probably the 20th time I’ve watched this on what is now the 10th channel to post this trailer? And every time I see it I still get chills!
I know what happens, and I still cant wait to watch it.
Knowing the end result is going to.make the show even more special. Reminds me of when HBO reshot their Red Sox documentary.
This is football, not the premier league but this, heart, soul, tears, passion.
So if all the heart, soul, tears and passion take Wrexham to the Premier League, it won't be football anymore. Gosh, makes you wonder what it's all for...
If they can get to the championship in the next 8-10 years, I'll say it's a great success. For a club that was stuck in the National league for 15 years, getting promoted to the championship in next 10 years will be incredible.
I love season one.. I wanna drink a beer at the Turt...Love from Denmark.
Arsenal fan but i love football and I do expect to see wrexham in top flight football in 10years
Loved the first season and I'm looking forward to seeing the second.
Blimey, this lot are good at this aren’t they
PUMP THIS STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS AND ORDER MORE JERSEYS SO THEY’RE NOT PERMA-SOLD OUT PLEASE! 💖
Good god. Give the marketing team a RAISE! Beautiful trailer.
I hope they take them all the way to the EPL
calling Charles the "king of england" is one of the biggest understatements ive heard in a long time lol
Charles also happens to be Ryan's king with Canada being part of the Commonwealth.
He’ll never be King of Wales.
already is@@CymruEmergencyResponder
Luton town managed it so why can’t Wrexham ❤️❤️❤️
So excited for this!! And we need a season 3 already after the 5 5 game!!
the Fozzy arc is already a dramatic one.
- comes out of retirement
- uses every last bit of ability left to help get them over the line for automatic promotion
- contemplates coming back all summer
- comes back
- doesn't have it anymore and retires
Fricken stoked man
More, please.
I can’t stop smiling and I goosebumps!
I got goosebumps from a trailer let’s go
1:28 wrexham are not the underdogs lol 😂😂😂
not anymore they are not, but when the series was shot, it was before last season had ended. They were still... well... you know, engaged in a lengthy fight.
They are referring to the town and community of Wrexham as underdogs. Not the football club. The community which went through decline. Now the club is helping the town rise up.
Probably my favorite thing ryan Reynolds has done in a while
i dont know why, but with this music in background i just keep on thinking ... deadpool will suddenly show of :D I hope wrexham will be in PL in next max 5-6 years :) that would be epic :)
Now there will be an actual season 2 with them getting promoted to League One.
They even animated a dragon for the club logo cool 💯💫👍
Yesssssssss ❤ September 12 😍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Was already looking forward to s2 but Rob having talking heads from Paddy's pub is going to be a cherry on top for me.
Rooting for them at the start ,not any more something is up,I just cannot put my finger on it.
It's just two men like loving brothers
One on top and one on bottom
@@brianpribadi4950one inside and one is out
@@brianpribadi4950 those two are switches. Ryan puts on the Deadpool mask and switches then, otherwise he's 100% a power bottom.
So the new season won't be on Disney+Hotstar?
How many episodes are there total
can't wait even my wife is super excited and she hates football. LOL
chills
sooooo asking for a friend.....if I live in rural Western Australia can I become a member of wrexham fc???? gotta love the underdogs:)))))))
Its be a miracle,Wrexham on Premier League and Win The Premier League.
Saying Wrexham is the underdog is like saying Man City is the underdog in Champions League
I hope this season turns out better than the last.
So ur watching it without knowing what happens? U do realise the season has already finished? And they came 1st and got promoted
@@samuelevans5129 he's caught you on his line dumbass
@@samuelevans5129 But the way they finished 1st is a hell of a story.. That game vs. Notts County with both sitting at 100pts. Was billed at the biggest game in National League History. It was even on BTSports1, for a National League Game that's completely unheard of. The Drama was real going into the end of the season. The story leading up to that will be very interesting and I heard they also included the achievements of the Women's team who also deserve a bit of glory too!
@samuelevans5129 why would you spoil it? Lol
@@samuelevans5129 not cool, there are people who didn't follow the season so they could watch the show blind and have genuine suspense. I tried to do that but couldn't resist near the end of the season.
Releasing when
As a Woking fan (who are in the same league as Wrexham), I am so happy for Wrexham as they fully deserved to move up. Hopefully my team can move up next time.
렉섬. 너무나도 동화같은 이야기입니다.
사랑할 수 밖에 없어요. 💙👍😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I like this series but it should really be timed with the league. I feel there’s no point watching it when the news in it is outdated
The journey. Is that so hard to understand?
So, the King of England called........
Impossible. The last King of England died in 1702. Maybe they might the King of the United Kingdom?
What is the difference between authentic and real?
Authentic means that you truely believe it to be real and believeable.
Real means it is the actual thing.
e.g. a handgranade replica can be authentic, so you may think it is real, but only the real handgranade will blow up in the end ;)
But most don't know the difference and use the terms synonymous.
They will sell at the peak & jump ship....
no they won't, they both have other ways to make money. This isn't an investment or else they wouldn't be bleeding cash like they have been.
@@eboethrasher very naive of you…

@CymruEmergencyResponder he's the King of the UK and Wales is part of the UK.
underdogs?lol outspent the entire league.......
did it the previous season too and still didn't go up did they?
@@eboethrasherthat means they were failures, not underdogs. You can't spend your way to success and call yourself an underdog
"The King of England"? Do these two, or any Americans following this, actually know the difference between England and Wales, or England and the United Kingdom?
Would you prefer he said "The King of Great Britain and 14 Commonwealth Realms"? Only like half the population outside of England in GB support the monarchy, really not that weird to say England even though it's technically incorrect
Sorry on their behalf I legit put the same comment above but it is confusing you play in the English system but 3 Welsh clubs play in it lol
Ikr! It’s weird bc Ryan is Canadian so Charles is his king too
He’s King of England and oppressor of everywhere else. The butchers apron never flies at Y Cae Ras and the dirge that is ‘God Save The King’ is never sung here either.
@@CymruEmergencyResponder Sorry, but you can't put Wales on a par with countries Britain colonised like India and the like. That's just ahistorical and disingenuous.
Ryan is so sassy🏳️🌈
Why this community and not others? What was special about them only?
IIRC they wanted underdogs, Wrexham reminded Rob of the Eagles trying to win the Superbowl etc
@@Boggin_ and they were for sale, of course.
Why not this community? They could only pick one. Maybe they threw a dart at a map. Or ryan likes dragons. Sure there were loads of factors.
More money, yeah that’s what football needs 😴
Cha Ching
At that level it could use a bit more, especially if they want to get promoted. That's the move.
You need an extra brain, unfortunately yours is only half used.
Thank you for not saying the word soccer
turning football club with 100+ years history into season of friends is insulting
No its not, its a dying amature club without them and a dying community. They'll be the reason it still exists in another 100 years..
If that's what you think this is, you're not only sorely mistaken, but a bit daft in the head.
@@eboethrasher No, he's a 100% right. I think their hearts are in the right place, but they are literally turning the club into "content" and entertainment for ignorant and non-invested viewers across the pond. They are commercializing culture, whether they intend to or not. A football club should be owned by its supporters and members. The fact that the fans like it doesn't mean it isn't true, just look at Newcastle or Man City. England (and Wales) desperately needs the 50+1 rule.
Your birth was insulting to the world. Your mom owes the world an apology for giving life to a stupid idiot.
Their hearts are probably in the right place, but they are undeniably turning culture into content. As far as owners go, they are good guys, but football clubs shouldn't have millionaire or billionaire owners from Saudi or the US. They should be owned by their own fans. English football needs 50+1 now. And if you don't know what that means, you have a very shallow understanding of football culture.
You sound like someone who just learned about German club ownership from Wikipedia. Do more research stupid idiot then lecture us about not understanding football culture.
You sound like someone you just read a Wikipedia page and couldn't wait to show everyone how clever you are. Bozo, everyone knows about German Bundesliga. That's why Bundesliga is never popular around the globe, their popularity is stagnating. And the model can easily be circumvented, just look at RB Liepzig. You are not that clever, go back and read more Wikipedia page, that's what you good at.
It bugs me that they called Charles "the King of England". The last ever King of England was William III. He died in 1702.
Though was originally excited by this show, it’s feel good vibe and constant pandering tone has left me wanting nothing more than to see Wrexham crash and burn.
Tells me everything I need to know about you.
Get help, you might be suffering from Jealouslitis.
It's all a fairy story.wont last
You should learn what fairy tale means first.
Being famous is so profitable
Sorry but he is going to sell you guys as soon as he sees a good offer 🤷♂️.
They have already got offers, they don't want to sell. But, when they climb the leagues will bring in new investors. 😏
Yeah, because they are strapped for cash aren't they 🤨
No, edgy boy. they won't.
Not to your brokeass.
No thanks..these to Hollyweird elitist completely ruin this sport FOREVER..
I wonder how long it will take for Ryan Reynolds to get bored of Wreckham & for the fans to turn on him! After he sells his stake lol
Unsure by then maybe you can spell Wrexham correctly!

They really are. They just lost a sub par 40 year old goal keeper who decided he couldn't hack it after letting in 10 goals.
I think they mean the town as much as the team. And add to it they are in a new league I think they would still be considered underdogs. Don’t confuse the media attention with the reality of the situation. Most promoted teams drop back down.
