I feel like CZcams is your perfect niche. It combines acting, tech & comedy and I think you are doing absolutely fabulous!
Lol you forgot interior design
Yes! I agree, this fits Caroline perfectly! And, do not forgot her interior design knowledge!
"Every time I use a Q-tip, I feel like a monarch" is the best thing about this video. That stool is awesome given its history.
I love it bit quips are really bad for your ears. I had to have surgery to fix the hole and bone scaring I did to myself 😢
truly feeling so fancy with my ear care
Loved that quote, too!
My favorite part too. Along with ding dong and dingle dangle. 😂😂😂. I love you Caroline ❤
No I disagree-the best thing about this video is yelling about dolls and how the one pot becomes sacred. I love her videos so much I almost don’t want to watch them bc I don’t want them to be over!
Preaching to the choir! The things that you touch everyday - flatware, doorknobs, drawer pulls, sheets, towels, dishes, glasses - should be of the highest quality. This can take awhile - I am truly happy with everything in my (small) apartment, but I’m 64!
Oh this is a great tip, I'll keep it in mind!
Very much this. One way to do this is - every so often - is have a stay home vacation and then spend what you would have spent on your usual break on an item for your home. (I do appreciate this is not possible for everyone, but charity shops and thrift stores can let you get good quality stuff at a minimal price and still do this kind of idea.)
Caroline: “I WILL have somewhere to put down my drink!”
Also Caroline: “NO COFFEE TABLES! EVER!”
😂
It’s a difficult position to occupy
I am watching this video while cooking. My daughter was passing by and she just said “c’est trop beau chez elle !” Which translates to “her interior is beautiful”

no parle francais but I wonder if we can say “c’est trop beau chez elle !” to refer to the inner beauty of someone@@Caroline_Winkler

I’m not from USA, boo maybe you guys don’t hear what I’m hearing, but I think she sounds EXACTLY like character Rachael from Friends. wait wait waittttt here’s a concept: video on how to make a rental / shorter term stay feel like your own space like decorating but without being wasteful 🫶 (pls i need this I’m living in Florence for 6 months in an apartment and wanna make it feel more like home)
Oh that makes sense
I was living in a different city for short term and the biggest thing i noticed was I was missing my regular comforts. So I was missing my soft blankets and my candles and little things like that. I didn’t really care about decoration… and I am a very aesthetic-focused person.
So i highly recommend you either pack or buy (buying is a nice memory) those items you use daily even if they seem trivial - it will make a difference in feeling homesick or not. As I said, for me it was my soft blanket, a good smelling candle, cute vibey lighting (i had a plug in mini lava lamp) and a bowl I liked eating out of. I would add for you - good sheets and towels, your skincare, and a place to put your keys to build habits. Within a week of being there I was struggling mentally, so I bought the items above and felt instantly better for the rest of the time. It’s the small things that matter
yes!! temporary/non-owner decorating ideas + options would be a great video
Wait, wait, what?!? You’re gonna live in Florence, Italy, for 6 months? Who needs a rental?! I’d go there and happily sleep under a bridge. 😂 I envy you. It’s such a magical city. I hope you’ll have a wonderful, unforgettable time.
this is a wonderful idea. i think i've got something in the works for this.....!
Side tables really are superior to coffee tables. IDK who's been lobbying for Big Coffee Table, but the humble, more practical side table deserves its champions.
I don't understand coffee tables either. I much prefer side tables. Whenever I need to place a drink on a coffee table it's never convenient. Plus, a side table can easily be moved around and can work like a TV tray if you have snacks.
Side tables feel more luxurious too because you don't have to lean to put your drink down, you just bend your arm. Coffee tables are for decor, to me, and are totally optional. They look good i think in a bigger space, otherwise you have like a huge void between couches maybe. But in a smaller room, side tables are definitely It
Exactly! Also, I want to be able to use the space of my living room without moving a big ass table. How’s a girl supposed to play just dance if she’s got a whole coffee table hogging the room? Not to mention the amount of stubbed toes coffee tables have caused me. I think we can simply move on from them as a society.
lol "Big Coffee Table" 🤣
I think the gap would be less weird if you have the seating semi-facing one another. My parents never had coffee tables because they are the perfect height for a dog tail to swipe@@claremiller9979
I love that you aren't saying this HAS to be the style goal, you're just teaching us how to do it if it IS our style goal. My room is a matchbox, with no closet, and also doubles as my office/studio, so I have to have my desk and a bunch of art supplies crammed into one corner. Because of this I try to make the rest of the room less cluttered and feel nicer. It's a challenge but this video is helping!
100% this👆👆 I wanted to be really clear that people didn’t miss this point in the intro the video. Luxury is not always my goal, any more than “moody” is always my goal. But in the event that luxury DOES happen to be the goal, I hope this video helps! Even in a small space, you can get closer to your vision than you think!
I'm in the same sitch and like, YES. I have a murphy bed that is also my desk. The cute boho clutter goes on the desk - when it's in bed mode, the desk goes away . BOOM now we're in a sophisticated bedroom. also setting up the bed so it faces the wall with one large framed canvas instead of the eclectic bookshelf helps a lot
I think this can actually be really effective. If you isolate the clutter to a specific small space in the room, but the rest of the room is uncluttered, the clutter can kind of meld together and look like a single cohesive thing, rather than like a bunch of different unrelated things. If you can put some kind of visual frame or border around the space (like curtains, or a room divider, or by having wallpaper just in that space, or by putting it into a nook, etc.), it is particularly effective - like how a bookshelf stuffed full of books still looks like a single unit rather than a mess of books. Basically, trick your eye into seeing the clutter as a single silhouette with some texture.
I applaud your ability to blend opulence with practicality creating stunning spaces that exude elegance and sophistication without breaking the bank. I also love the energy you always bring to your videos.
oh im so glad to hear that! i personally insist on a very *livable* space. i dont like things feeling like a museum. BUT i think there's also a way to balance that with a refined feeling! most of designing your home will be mixing various *vibes* this way!
As a mama of 7 (yes, 7...FIVE boys, two girls) who also loves a beautiful home, I agree with all of this!!
I would add:
- CLEAN your space. Luxury!😍
-only buy one of a kind art (I get all mine thrifting)
-think "how sturdy is this? How fast could five boys make it look ugly?"...then only buy it if it would hold up/clean easy.
-buy plastic as little as possible
Adore you and your info! ❤❤
Haha the boy comment!
Now that I think about it, some of my favorite pieces in my home would pass the „quick destruction by five boys“ test :D they‘re well-built and simple. The flimsier stuff is often less nice to use and I get over it much quicker. Going to use that from now on!
Agreed about avoiding plastic! It just looks so cheap and flimsy and of course not environmentally friendly at all!
I have no kids and I agree with all of this. Good comment!
Id love to see a closet organization video from you. I feel like it’d be fun and relatable. Not a rainbow plastic bin show room that no one actually can maintain and use.
Ps this was such a fun vibe! Loved this topic! Want to see more stuff like this but I enjoy the vlog and chat stuff too.
Oo. I’m into this!

Agreed, me too❤
YAS!!!
"It's fine. No one's getting in trouble!" LOL
You know what’s way better than a coffee table?? An ottoman. I don’t know why people even own coffee tables, they’re toe stubbing hard uggos in the middle of the room. Ottomans are cozy sweet little soft additions to a livingroom. Plus they can act as additional seating!? Amazing. Ok thanks I’m done my rant 🤗
do you have a tray on the ottoman to put cups down? also do you decorate your ottoman like people do with coffee tables? thanks :)
The message about paring back reminds me of the Coco Chanel quote: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

Bougie… this not so common weird word has been on my mind for a few days and now I’m hearing it in this video of Caroline! Interesting.
@@Caroline_Winklerwe’re in a bougie state of mind, yeah.
On the note of don't get weirdly small furniture for a small space, also don't get weirdly large furniture for a large space!! Normal-sized furniture is preferred! Don't fill a large living room with bloated, giant-sized couches. Just break up the space into separate areas. I think it was also Rita Konig who I learned this from haha

Yes, indeed!
I love all your tips! Adding tips just for fun: use natural materials (hand made/artisan) as much as possible. Swap out plastic cooking utensils for wood/metal. Real cotton or linen vs polyester for curtains. Ceramic bowls vs plastic ect ect the list goes on! Thrift stores are great and farmers markets very affordable.
This surprised me!
For me, luxurious is #1 my bed. Never cheap out on your bed or its accessories. I need the best mattress I can afford, a mattress topper, two high end mattress covers, three sets of very luxurious sheets (one on the bed, one ready to use on sheet-changing day which is way more often than most people seem to do that, and a third in case of disaster), super fabulous blankets or comforters or whatever you prefer (that Scandinavian two-comforters overlapping is the only way for us since I learned of it = no blanket hogging), excellent pillows, and some beautiful bed cover. We have dogs so I found those Indian cotton hippie coverlets things are incredible because I can put a clean one on the bed daily. I buy good laundry detergent and scent, too.
It’s all an investment, but when we get into bed for 8 hours of sleep, it’s luxury. The angels sing.
Towels and bathroom products come next. Luxurious towels and fancy soap. Every bath or shower is a spa moment.
The last REQUIREMENT is decent cookware - an investment for sure, and >decent flatware and glassware. I don’t care about the dishes . Paper, even. But don’t give me cheap flatware or thick Walmart glassware. Or make me cook with cheap pots and pans.
Almost everything else I can fake or faux.
In our home we eat, bathe, and sleep. Luxury is wonderful for those things.
(Quality sound system is also key. Invest in good audio.) 🌟
Speaking of editing, whoever edited this video did an incredible job! Love the music 😊
my editor paige did this one!! she killed it
I think you are funny, quirky and not afraid to show your mistakes. Also, I like the way you cover so many different subjects. Just plain fun and interesting to watch your videos!
So many good design tips. As someone without a lot of money, I heartily second the idea of spending more on your small items. I can’t drop 3 grand on the couch of my dreams, but I can spend $30 on a small decorative piece that makes me feel rich every time I see/touch it. I can buy a shower curtain that transforms my basic bathroom into an oasis. I can buy a luxurious piece of clearance fabric that I can use to drape over ugly second hand stands, or turn into curtains. And on the plus side, if you’re intentional about those items, they’re little pieces of luxury that often work in many different spaces and are easy to take with you on moves, which is something a perpetual mover like myself really appreciates.
I love that I am not in a rush to “finish” any space in my home. I don’t think I will ever buy any expensive small piece or expensive lamp, any expensive anything. I find luxurious, high quality pieces while thrifting all the time and am slowly making my house a home. ☺️ These are great tips cause now I can pin and manifest these items on my thrift trips. 🥰
I have a dark little hallway. I tried for years to “lighten and brighten” and failed…so I gave in, painted it navy blue and hung all my artwork in it. (Tons of oils. Also lots of gilt frames.) Sometimes you need to sand with the grain of the wood.
The Kylie Minogue needle drop! We have to stan!

Ngl, I nearly wet my pants when I heard it. Kylie is the queen!!! 💃
Whenever you use recognisable music tracks, I sit here worrying that you're not going to be able to monetise the video and that your genius will be all for naught 😅
Felicity's "pot" is a bed warmer. 😊 I love this. You shifted my views on minimizing. I love the idea of raising something's value or esteem by letting it stand alone. Luxury, baby.
What a perfection of a video...Very impressed with the convincing power of taking down the art piece and the duster. Your videos are so rich. Your personality is rich. I love how educational your content is.
ah im so glad that was an effective demonstration! i never know how these little moments will translate
I feel an important thing to mention is that you can get luxurious items for a very low price by buying 2nd hand!
Estate sales are great for small items as well as high quality upholstered items. You buy a good, sturdy frame that you get reupholstered in your choice of fabric. Have new, comfy cushions made while you’re at it. Customize the legs.
I scour the photos from upcoming estate sales looking for homes that seem to belong to older couples who traveled the world. I’ve scored Moroccan lanterns, ethnic textiles, collapsible table bases with metal trays tops, curvy sculptural metal teapots, etc.
As a much older woman myself, I think it's kind of funny that she said that too much stuff and knickknacks looks really young and having less stuff looks more sophisticated. But then said her wall with a sconce and painting reminds her of playing with dolls. Young people are so funny and I mean that in a nice way.
Not getting too serious about your home is definitely what makes a home wonderful and unique. Trying to make it look like something in order to show off to guests/audiences/neighbors/etc will only lead to unhappiness.
Caroline, *you* are the reason I'm even letting my mind entertain the thought of decorating my rental space after almost 10 years hopping around "waiting rooms" and living among white, off-white, and grey walls.
Been looking at opulent accent wallpapers for my °cupboard under the stairs° lately ♡
Thank you!!!
Also... OMG the sacred doll items, I feel it!

OK, back to watching ^^
Wow yeah, our "waiting room" apartments in the "meantime" until something better is such a good point. The meantime IS your lifetime. have fun decorating!
ahh! im so excited you're going for it! it's just stuff, and it's all an experiment. start with things that you can move around and experiment with! you'll do great. so much of the "figuring out" has to happen once you get in there and start moving things around.
and for the record, my pillowcases house tens of ear plugs. they are little treats to find when i make my bed. so youre not alone :)
I had a friend tell me long ago that she didnt bother to put anything up in her apartment because she didnt plan to be there long. Eight years later, she finally did!

She’s not lying about editing down and focusing on one or a few great pieces. I’m someone who likes a more eclectic style, however it’s because I prefer that youthful, whimsical vibe. My sister on the other hand, is very chic and luxurious with her style and it FEELS more luxurious. Definitely a true correlation there. Quality over quantity relates here as well.

This is probably my most favourite of all of your videos. I love the aesthetic of your place, but now I understand how you accomplished it. LOVE IT!!! ❤❤❤😊❤❤❤
I’m finding as I get older I want to pare down what I have. Collections are fine but there are usually one or two pieces in a collection that are truly special. I find I want to highlight those instead of letting them get lost in the crowd. You are so right, things do feel sacred when set forth as special.
When I was a child, I spent hours rearranging furniture in my dollhouse. Now, as an adult, I rearrange the furniture in my house about once a month and I love doing it. Until this video, I never consciously made the obvious connection. Thanks for making this video.

Why are all your videos things I already knew or heard, but in ways I finally care about. When you explain it, I feel not only like I want to do it, but that it's totally attainable. Like I'll do this as soon as I'm done watching. When other people talk about this stuff, it's like "k good for them". Your channel was a real find!

Did you conveniently time this upload when you know a lot of us are going to be spring cleaning? If so, GENIUS. If not, still genius because this video is exactly what I needed today!
I was just thinking yesterday, how long I've been decorating. I'm 44 and remember watching Christopher Lowell and remodeling my bedroom every 4 months from the Penny's catalog with my grandmother.
Fast forward to our 100 year old farm cabbage (cottage cabin) we just purchased. 850 sqft of wonky with two kids and a husband. It has been, by far, my most daunting project.
You have been so inspiring. Something that doesn't happen anymore! So, as I sit here on my used sofa I can't find a replacement for (indecisive) and newly discovered hardwoods that need refinishing, I thank you for the motivation to keep going.

This is what I've been struggling with. I was always a major city girl living in apartments, but suddenly (long story) I was thrust into a 3 story townhouse in a tiny river town. Iregardless of decor simply learning how i function and live in a larger space has been quite the adjustment.

This is fantastic! For us hoarders out there who don’t want to part with anything, I think rotating objects is a great idea. I like the Feng Shui rule of 27 things.
I hadn't heard of the 27 thing rule! I'll definitely have to look more into Feng Shui principles.
27 things on one shelve right? 🤔😂
Succinct, stunning and doable advice. Thank-you!
Just moved into a single level condo with 11 ft vaulted ceilings. Acoustically it reverberates like a Gregorian monastery. Our goal is to make the space luxurious by getting it to shut the heck up! We're hoping we can do it tastefully without resorting to shag carpet on the walls, aka the 1970's hippie van theme.
Love that alabaster ear-plug holder next to your bed. If you put an electric or LED tealight in it, it'll glow like naturally luminescent stone 😊

I was called out as the person who has sofas and no place to put things. I was like: what's the big deal? You just put it on the couch, and then Caroline said: yeah so it gets lost forever... So many times this has happened to me 😭
Caroline, instead of a coffee table, go for a large rectangular, square or round flat or tufted ottoman. Then you can have a stunning tray to put on it (be it wood, wicker--depending on your scheme), to have a place to set your beverages when needed.....That way too you can add another design element into the room by the type of fabric & legs used.
How are you so witty?! I’m so jealous of your loved ones who get to have you in their life.

I think you just taught me an important lesson -- be intentional, always. With everything.
Ugh! Coffee tables are the bane of my existence right now! We need to replace ours, and it's impossible to find one I like.
7:51 Oooo i feel so validated! I have a "designated throne" holding flossers 😂 Is it necessary? Not at all. Does it, however, make the dreaded process of flossing my teeth a little more joyful? Does it motivate me, ever so slightly, to floss more often? Heck yeah! 'Cause I wanna open that thing like I live in a castle and even the smallest items are encased in luxury. Fancy flosser/q-tip holders all the way!! I agree!
11:24 "now we're in an estate" 😂😂😂 I LOVE IT YESSS
You have no idea how much this helped me on a very serious level. I have lupus and adhd. I’m currently in a severe lupus flare and dealing with adhd paralysis when it comes to cleaning/ organizing/ unpacking my new apt. I have watched every video to try to get inspiration to get up and move. This is the first video I have watched that actually got me up and MOVING and actually throwing stuff out!! Thank you so much I’m serious this actually just did so much for me 🥹
venereal disease of interior design will live permanently in my mind.... your influence....
We’ve been in our house for 11 years - yet to find a coffee table I like. It took me 9 years to find a sideboard for our dining room. So much of what’s out there is the same, or the wrong scale.
right?? it's very annoying to me
I've used Ebay to purchase antique ceramic canisters (without labels) to make a 3 canister grouping of what I need for the dog in the kitchen (house is short on storage and has only one closet). In the bathrooms, which also don't have cabinets, I have ceramic sugar dishes with lids (that don't look like sugar dishes) for powder, hair ties, floss, a little ceramic tray (a beauty) for hyalauronic acid, apricot seed oil, and moisturiser. Toothbrush and tooth paste are in a ceramic pitcher as are combs and such. Have my mouth wash in a square crystal decanter and found a square shot glass to pour it into. These are from the 40s - 60s, but I was able to coordinate them for the look I wanted. I'd a little treasure box that I keep make up in.
Make it special and it doesn't have to cost a lot. Don't waste your money on junk.
Such GREAT advice about not automatically going to really small furniture in small spaces! My living is literally a micro-space, 98 inches (8 feet) wide, and I put an 83 inch sofa against the back wall. It's cream colored + low height against a white wall, and I put 2 accent chocolate-leather barrel chairs in front, on either side facing it. Makes for a very lovely (and comfortable!) conversation space. And it feels cozy instead of small and cramped. (Also, I put a large round mirror against the back wall behind the couch, which expands the space visually)
Finally! Some actually useful advices on the internet. You madam, are doing god's work here. Thank you from the bottom of my cold heart. It's been hard to find legit good advice these days. I feel positively influenced, and what a nice long forgotten feeling it is! Thumbs up? Yes, very much so.
Off topic, but I would LOVE to see a video on how you found your style ie. hair, makeup, clothing. You always look super cute and polished 👌🏼
another way to make your place feel luxurious is ORIGINAL and UNIQUE ARTWORK!! and Caroline definitely does this so well 🤩🤩
"… and you gotta be tired of listening to me."
* me meanwhile looking for another one of your videos *
I just love your content byeeee❤
Great, helpful, information! Best coffee table idea for a small space is when people come over: pull in a sturdy round upholstered storage ottoman and top with a round piece of glass ( 1/4-1/2 inch thick) you keep behind your buffet/hutch/dresser whatever you have until you need it.
I do something similar. Instead of the glass though I have a selection of trays and nice cutting boards.
"self-contained little system of a moment" 😍
Complete 👏🏼 the 👏🏼 vignette! 👏🏼 I've been redecorating our family home, and have very little leeway because it's all preexisting piles of art and things to arrange - I'm literally sitting here just joining the dots, and NGL it's fun AF 😆 This video is *gold* ❤
As I’m watching today’s video I have electricians installing sconces in two rooms and I feel like the fanciest lady in the village!! I adore lighting more than I can express. 🎩🎩🎩
Thick and protruding frames in your hall give a very claustrophobic experience. Check the green wall room you posted yourself and note how DELICATE all the frames are, especially those on the SIDE walls.
You blew my mind with the felicity doll comparison 😂 and you’re totally right, dolls that only come with ONE POT ONE BOOK ONE PENCIL (or any other accessory) really do make those items more sacred!
Coffee tables are particularly bad right now at least in the UK. Had to search like hell to share a traditional coffee table to show a woman on a decorating site the sort of coffee table that was needed for her space. I had it when our choices are so limited. Antique stores! 2nd hand stores!
Caroline. I need you to hash out this anti-coffee-table idea and share it with all of us. I know there's more in the labyrinth that is your mind and I'm going to be lost until we make it to the end, where all the alternatives reside. I'm extra committed because the coffee table is the only place I have to put my cups!
