    Very well done. I have a 35 lobster boat and am in the process of painting the bilge. Requires a ton of patience to do a nice job but very satisfying when done and you can see any leak so much more clearly. Another tip given to me by a good mechanic was to put blue "shop" paper towels under any areas you suspect are leaking.

    I use simple green in a spray bottle in my 320 compartment. Before I go out, spray engine bay floor and bulkheads with cleaner. When I come back, lightly hose it out. Super clean!

    I have a 1988 Carver 38 aft cabin and there is a sump under the midship stairs which appears to have about a 4"x12" opening under the floorboard going across the fore and aft frames. The sump is about a foot deep. I purchased a 12V waterproof aquarium pump and attached it to a broomstick and attached a 1/2" hose to the pump and broom stick along with wires going to the battery. I could drop the pump into the sump and clamp the wires onto the battery and then pump into a 5 gal. bucket. This allowed access to an inaccessible area after putting a few thimblefuls of Dawn soap a few days before.

    Good timing on this one Paul! I spent the entire day yesterday at the boat cleaning the engines and bilge! It's not perfect, but it's much, much better now. (I am now also very, very sore.)
    I also had a bonding wire that needed to be addressed too. Why does the connection need to be copper as @JP suggests below?

    you should not use a crimp fitting back on that bonding connection, it will just break off again, either put it on a connection that doesn't move or put a soldered fitting on it.

    Looking at your engine bay pick, have you removed your overboard toilet pump hen you fitted the new black tank and the big orange vent filter?
    Rob

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 3 lety

      Hi Rob,
      That had been disconnected before we bought the boat, I merely capped the line. Besides being illigal to even have an overboard discharge pump in Canadian waters, it's something we would NEVER do, irrespective of rules. I'm still blown away by folks who discharge thier poop tanks into the waterways.

      @@BoatingWithBoogaboo
      Paul,
      Thank you for your prompt reply. Our 1997 Sea Ray 330 DA has a partially collapsed black tank so I am going to change it out and thought it would be a good idea to delete the overboard pump anyway. It really is very unnecessary for the potential damage to the eco system with non blue-water boats that are never far from marina facilities.
      Hey, I did note on one of your Q&A videos that somebody had asked about water intrusion. When we bought this boat the starboard engine had suffered water intrusion and needed replacing with a long block 454. Curiously, when the previous owner had bought the boat the starboard engine had suffered water ingestion that was found after the sea trial. He initially fitted a short block motor which subsequently failed and then a long block motor which suffered water ingestion again after only 50 hours. I’ve researched this a bit and there is a Mercruiser Service Bulletin www.manifoldwarehouse.com/mes/news/Mercruiser_SB_Water_Ingestion.pdf. The previous owner admitted that he used to run the engines at prolonged periods at idle and then shutdown. If you look at para 2. a. under the Water Ingestion section on page 5 you’ll see they suggest 45 seconds at 1300 RPM before returning to idle and shutting down if you have run at idle for sometime. I’ve also purchased extended height risers to obviate this problem in the future. You may wish to pass this advice on.
      Your videos are great, informative and fun.
      Happy boating.
      Rob.

    Would you ever consider getting an outboard instead? I’m 50/50 we love the I/o with the use of the swim platform and how it looks, but maintaining the I/o is harder.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Never. To me, sticking two or three huge outboards on these types of boats and still calling them cruisers is a joke. But that's just me.
      My solution to the tight engine bay on the boat in this video was to go bigger! Check it out; czcams.com/video/n2bk33oeodk/video.htmlsi=VY3dQ_bkx1LqGMof

      @@BoatingWithBoogaboo we love using pocket cruisers as I’d like to tow and bring it to multiple bodies of water. It’s crazy when we go to a boat show and look at all the new boats anything under 30 feet long is now a bow rider with an outboard. If I want an inboard outboard, that’s a cabin cruiser I have to go to something bigger than 30 feet, which means no more towing for me. There is one exception to that, but we looked at the seating plan and we don’t like it.
      We just found an oil leak in our boat just this week . And in order for me to work on it I literally need a hoist to hold me upside down while I’m in that space.😂. Or maybe one of my family members can hold me by my ankles.😂

      You should change that so the Raw water is leaving the boat through just the risers and not the manifolds and the risers. On my engine the manifolds are cooled with coolant just like the engine and my raw water goes out the risers only.

      I use Castrol Super Clean (Original) (www.superclean.com/products/) for many cleaning solutions on the boat. Very strong de-greaser that is available through many retailers. One thing to note when using is that when spraying from the applicator, the mist can be very caustic, so try not to inhale ;-) Works great on cleaning your car tires, as well!

      The dealers were stuck with "colorful" motors of the late 50's that were hard to sell because they didnt match the buyers boat. Early 60s brought the white Merc's followed in 63 withe the black motors. It was not only cheaper, it made the motors look smaller. The Johnson/Evinrudes were masive in size. (look up what a "fat 50" is). Similar to a plus size lady wearing a black dress. Very thinning. ; )

Repacked my rudder ports (that was fun getting those out) and had props tuned and balanced before I launched last week (all is good so far!) Unfortunately went to use the shower and drain elbow under shower is broken where the hose hooks in and drains to the sump box so had to deal with that crisis. Temporarily fixed but ready to cut all that out and replace! I want to shoot the engineer who designed that set up in such a tight space.
