  • I love multirole. Don't get me wrong, I think the A10 is an amazing A2G platform, and the F-15C is a beast in the air. But for me, I love launching off the deck with the supreme knowledge that whatever is thrown at me, I can handle on my own. And the F18 is an awesome multirole platform!
I head up for the second of a back to back flight on GAW (previous video here: • Samurai's Hoggit Reunion ); launching from Krymsk with a mixed ugly loadout of Aim 120s, Aim 9s and some Mavericks. We had an awesome GCI in the form of REDCROWN (best GCI I've heard on HOGGIT in a while -- second only to Tactical Pascale in my opinion). The action on this sortie was FUN -- a perfect mix of A2A and A2G.
I want to give a shoutout and big thanks to my buddy Lodewijk Lenaerts for the screenshot I used for the video thumbnail. Just don't ask me to pronounce his name :-)

REDCROWN is one of the best GCIs on Hoggit.

Good video and you're absolutely comfortable in the F18, good mission 👍

Thank you! 👍 I'm still not great in the Hornet, but I know most of it's systems now. It's BFM that I struggle with...

That radio chatter sounded very familiar - pretty sure I was in there with you doing multirole at the same time! Took out an EWR site then went chasing an A50 way up to the northeast. Props to Red Crown, he does a fantastic job.

Yeah, REDCROWN was awesome. Second in my mind only to Tactical Pascale, who is a retired RAF GCI, so he _should_ be amazing...

You said, "left DDI" before the maverick shots on both targets and I saw the left DDI come up with a cam view and the pod still on the right DDI. What are you using the left DDI for? Great vid, by the way! Trying to learn how the Hoggit servers work.

Very nice video, and a well done flight, too! I would like to ask one question, though: having a waypoint on each target vehicle is quite convenient. Did you have to create those, or are they provided by the mission script?

wondering the exact same thing.. the hoggit servers load up a number of waypoints in the f18 but never knew if they were active targets or not.

I just love the Hornet's cockpit, everything you need is right in your face and not too many switches. The F-16 has too many damn switches, and too many hotas fuctions. I like my hornet, just switch master arm, press AG, press mav, designate with tpod, fire away.
No need to press a bunch of hotas combinations lol. Also, best landings ever, carrier landings !

that is true. I love my viper but envy the ease of hornet's manual of arm. The same can be said for A2G function of A-10 vs Harrier

@@VuLamDang And the best thing about the hornet, if you got those MFD's, or a keyboard if you're poor like me, you don't even have to use the mouse, because navy jets gets everything done by pressing the MFD's buttons, and there's not a lot of buttons to press to get a weapon goin, max DDI buttons haha.
Also, I use the numerical keys from my keyboard for UFC keys, and its waaay easier than having to press with the mouse.

Good dialogue going here. I absolutely agree that the Hornet has a really low barrier to entry, which is great for people getting into modern(ish) multirole jets...

@@samurai1-18 Oh yeah, I started playing DCS with the first full fidelity jet being the Hornet in June, and I already knew all the systems and how to use them in August.
The only real difficult thing in the hornet is the Carrier Ops.
And of course, air refueling, but that is hard to do in any plane.

@@mayuthecop or you can get by with a cheap ass stick like me (only 1 hat) and use mouse for the rest lol

I couldn't quite understand, but what brevity do you use to say I see your target, engaging?

    • @samurai1-18
      @samurai1-18  Před 3 lety +2

"JUDY" -- it means that you have contact (either through sensors or visually) and are engaging. Normally what happens is then the GCI will cease giving any information about the hostile/bandit, as the "shooter" is in a better position to know the current state of the target. In this case, REDCROWN kept giving me information, but personally I prefer that, as it means I get continued "help"...
