Folie à Deux, Fall Out Boy's fourth studio album, will turn 10 this December. The album, which you know from singles like 'I Don't Care', 'America's Suitehearts' and 'What a Catch, Donnie', arrived at a difficult time in the band's career - Fall Out Boy famously went on hiatus after touring it. As the album approaches its big anniversary, we asked Pete Wentz and Andy Hurley what they think of the album now.

For real. Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet is my favorite FOB song
"loves the album *now*" I think gets at all of this. I don't know if it's nostalgia, or listening to that record more, where folks now dig it. but I remember when it first came out...quite a few fans were not-so-subtly shitting on it.
@@StreakersClub it was a combination of a few things why people hated it at the time, it was peak fall out boy when this album was released so expectations were very high. The released the album too soon as it did feel a little rushed at times when listening to the songs, that combined with how the sound was different from Infinity on High and FUTCT. So fans were let down big time after hyping it up. Years later we're able to listen to it unbiased and be able to appreciate what they were going for. It was just a poor combination of experimenting their sound, high expectations, rushing the album, and with all honesty Punk Rock was kinda dying out in the late 2000's as Pop and Rap were more popular. This happens all the time, it was poor circumstances when they released Folie A Deux, I always liked it, but at the time I didn't LOVE it, but I knew lots of fans who hated it. Its turned into a fan favorite now because people go back, listen to it with different expectations and a unbiased mindset and actually enjoy it a lot.
:/// maybe the folie songs "don't go over well" live because you don't play them enough haha. play them more and more people will get to know them and love them. so many hardcore fans ADORE those songs, give THEM what they want instead of trying to please the singles fans.
Hi Hannah
Exactly.
Yeah, I don't think they quite understand how much of a hit Folie is to the hardcore fans now. Hopefully that will change, and in the meantime we can enjoy it whenever it plays. (:
Preach, Hannah!

Yes, please
YES WHERE DO I SIGN!
Erik Ruiz
yeah pretty much
YES! Like, I literally came to comments to say they should do a tour where they do songs how they'd have put them out if they were planned in a way they appreciate and then make a live album of that.
tenth anniversary
Why is no one talking about the fact that they started the video with what a catch? ;-; Am i the only one who cries during that song?
•Finn• the only song from folie a deux i cry at is lullabye.
it kinda shocked me at first haha
I cry when Patrick sets the seagull free
•Finn• I cried too..... Like what the he'll don't start with what a catch Donnie pleaseeee

Andy looked so nervous when he talked
I don't think he likes talking for interviews that much (:
It's ok Andy, you're still my favorite!

Pavlove should have made it onto the regular album
Yeah, that one is really underappreciated, and it's probably because it's so hard to find. I really love it, along with the rest of the album.
I could definitely see it as a mainstream hit had it been on the album
I think that, in my opinion, Pavlove is the greatest song they ever wrote.
I’m already sobbing
Fobbing

And I’m giving a blow fob
What?
I felt this
pete let andy talk more, oh my gosh
dylxn grxce you should know Andy isnt much of a talker. im sure he got everything he wanted to say out in that 30 seconds lol
Also I don't know if you noticed but Andy gave Pete the mic back pretty quickly after he finished talking so maybe he didn't want to talk much? Idk I was thinking the same thing but when I saw him give the mic back I was like oh, he probably said all he wanted to say
andy doesnt like talking ma dude!
nah, andy likes being quiet.
It’s personally not only my favorite FOB album, but my favorite album from any artist.
So is this album the panic at the disco equivalent of Pretty Odd? I love both albums and think they are great. They can both definitely be performed live.
I also think the two are similar in that way. They were both the first albums I purchased from each group :))) my favs
They're honestly my favorite albums of both bands. Love when a band tries something new
No because Fall Out Boy is still a band
...and Brendan Urie is the only remaining member of Panic!

WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WHAT A CATCH, DONNIE US
WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT
Honestly, Folie à Deux is my favorite album of theirs right now. My favorite Fall Out Boy song is 27, which is from Folie à Deux. This is just an album that I can listen to, if I ever wanna hear a full Fall Out Boy album I usually go to Folie or Cork Tree
Katie Abrego 27 is my fav too. The lyrics in that song are like poetry
@@kyra7849 everything Pete writes is poetry
Hell yeah, are we the same person? 27 is such an incredible song, and the guitar solo gives me chills every. single. time.
Ain't you like my lost twin or something? I feel just the same way as you
Yea folie is such a unique record and so is cork tree. Those two back to back really show fob from both extremes
I'm not ready. I'm seriously not ready for Folie to be ten years old. I was bloody seven years old when that album was released. I'm not ready
Claire Gualteros Same... Time flies! Hope adulthood has treated you well. xD
Supernintendro thanks for this reply
Same!
Folie a deux is the most quinetessential fall out boy album, fight me.I Became a fan during IOH amd went back and loved all of their catalog, but i understood how crazy of a project FAD was. Its a perfect project damn near to me.
4 minutes of Pete and 20 seconds of andy xD like always
DDW8991 i dont think Andy like interviews
OMG.i love folie a duex sO much!so much meaning
America’s sweethearts is one of their best songs ever.
Foley is by far my favorite album of all time from any band it has a very unique sound that no other band could copy And I definitely don't think it needed to be pushed back because it was great no matter what
The guitar solo from 27 is one of the first solos i've learned. Folie is also my favourite FOB album esp songs like disloyal order, winona and headfirst slide
Well what a catch played at the start and I cried
pete has said "like" in this video more times than ive heard my own father's voice
The way Pete says Folie à deux makes me smile for some reason.
I love Folie sooo much
Folie is my favourite album by them
Andy has a voice that makes me smile every time I hear it
Honeslty same
....'til this day. Pete?
I love this album so much, What a Catch, Donnie never fails to make me cry and it’s one of my favorite songs
Folie is beautiful, and I have turned to it for comfort in many a time of need. There's so much heart there. It's so unique. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
YOU CANNOT START A VIDEO WITH WHAT A CATCH, DONNIE ITS NOT ALLOWED
Was not expecting What A Catch Donnie to play in the beginning 😭 the feels. My all time favorite album
I absolutely love Folie A Duex! Seriously have no complaints about it! I still jam out to the songs in my car!
Man this album was my jam! My whole world was changing at that point in time, during its release and it just seemed to fit. I remember listening to it on repeat because it wasn’t like everything else coming out. It was fresh. I know Fall Out Boy are clever and tend to stick with the music “trends” of the time, but this will always be an album that I feel, in the way Pete put it, “sketches of songs”, drew a great outline on who they are as a band... you can make music for the masses or you can try and express yourself on subjects at the given time your emotions become part of the equation. “I will never believe in anything again.” That line stuck with me as my favorite Pete Wentz lyric for one reason. To me, it was his sharing of his own change of perspective of the way he sees the world and how it’s ran and how it can be saved, and also because it’s not a clever way to dodge his emotions, it was simply a really raw a “sketch” for how he really views the world in its current state (at the time) and the change he hoped to see. It’s all about perspective though. Just opinion. Just another great album for me, always.
Folie is my favourite album, not just for fall out boy but out of everything... I feel liek I could play those songs on repeat forever and never get bored, and the lyrics make me smile the more weird they get (Especially headfirst slide)
I feel this on a spiritual level
The best album they have ever made
listen i'm not a stupid person but one thing i will never understand is why Folie was received so badly when it came out i literally don't understand that it makes no sense to me whatsoever Folie is like...perfection and amazing and i don't think i will EVER understand honestly
I’m going to a FOB concert next month and I hope soooo much that they play something from Folie. It’s always been my favorite, I love that style of music

My favourite FOB album by a mile - love that record
This is one of my favorite albums of all time and is definitely my favorite FOB album
It’s their best album without a doubt
How has no one seen this wtf
From under a cork tree, Infinity on High and Folie a Deux are the albums that define FoB to me. Now it's all big, intense pop arena songs. I get that they're doing it because they've gotten big and a big crowd needs more energy. But it would've been nice to hear them play some classics every once in a while. Like could you believe that some new fans don't even know "thnks fr th mmrs" and "a little less sixteen candles"? The new fans deserve to listen to these golden songs!
I remember when this album was released, I was about 10 or 11 and bought the CD at at Walmart that weekend lol. At the time when it was released as Pete said it kinda came outta left field with the rock style, different from FUTCT and Infinity on High, so fans didn't really know what to think of it, on top of that pop and rap were really coming out strong with artists like Kanye, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Lil Wayne dominating the charts. It was also probably a little rushed as the album came out like a year after Infinity on High, which was the peak of their fame in the 2000's where their music was literally being played everywhere and they were one of the most popular artists in the nation. Expectations for this album were incredibly high after their hugely successful Infinity on High album and Folie A Deux was highly anticipated by fans, so when it was released it was a bit of a let down.10 years later I think people have listened to this album and been able to really digest it and understand/appreciate the songs. This happens all the time, where it's a commercial flop but years later it becomes like a cult classic or a fan favorite. This was the case with Weezer's "Pinkerton", Ramones self-titled debut album, and Kanye Wests 808's and Heartbreaks. This also happens in the film industry with movies like Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and David Fincher's "Fight Club". Looking at the album now I thoroughly enjoy it, as most FOB fans do. It was just a combination of blending and experimenting with their sound at the wrong time while releasing the album too soon, as people felt it was incomplete and rap/pop being more popular genre's at the time.
Can I get a counter for how many times Pete said the word "Like" :D I love them sooo much! Folie was an absolute gem. I have lyrics from What a Catch tattooed on my shoulder
Folie is the greatest album of all time across all genres. This album means so much to my friends and I. It’s inexplicably the soundtrack to our lives.
Folie a Deux still slaps. I remember the reception being just awful though! The general fan vibe at the time kind of made me feel like something was wrong with me, a young teen at the time, for enjoying it even though I had also enjoyed the band's previous releases too. People really couldn't wrap their heads around FOB putting out something that didn't sound like Take This to Your Grave, From Under the Cork Tree, or even Infinity on High AND ALSO still be good. I'm really glad that FOB bounced back from it, and I'm glad that fans - especially newer and younger ones - care enough to go through their catalog and enjoy and request more from this record.
Folie a Deux is their best work, hands down. It's probably my favorite record of all time.
Folie has always been my all time favorite album. I've always said I wish i could've seen FOB live after they released this album to hear most of these songs live :,)
One of my favorites, its so very apropos even to this day, awesome interview, I love these 2.
I loved that album
it's literally one of the greatest works of art ever created
Folié is by far my favorite fob album, and it always will be
One of my favorite albums of all time.
I really needed this video. It seriously felt so great to have everything explained. How they feel about it,why they don't play from it often, why it didn't go so well in the time it was released. So many of my questions have been answered and I seriously appreciate this
Bro this is the best album. Arrangement and lyrics are an instant classic
Follie is one of my fav albums😢 It's so beautiful! Btw😂 Andy's just sitting there like why am I am even here?😂😂😂😂😂
I still want them to play more songs from that album cuz they’re pretty good and they sound good!
LOVE THIS ALBUM!!
My first album that lve bought and genuinely LIKE
In my opinion, Folie is my favorite album (with ALL of the others a very close second), however it was written with heartache, raw emotion, sadness, happiness, promise, and hope in their minds (along with a couple really pissy songs penned quickly by Patrick when he was mad at Pete, lol).
It wrung them out to write it. It depressed them that people didn’t receive it well at the time it was released.
Also, those fans they performed for were, by and large, the primarily younger aged people, and they just (possibly) didn’t quite get the emotional impact of the album because (thankfully) due to the fan age, they more than likely did not have to deal with that much heartache, pain, love, loss, almost loss (Pete…), due to lack of life experience. That, of course, wasn’t their fault.
Folie is artistic and quite beautiful. I do get it, because I’ve been through most of those issues myself. However, I’m also older than they are (Pete is the closest to me, 1 year younger).
Great album FOB!
I love folie so much. It and Infinity on High are my favorite fall out boy albums.
This album meant the world to me. Got me thru the darkest breakup of my dating history. Rock on FOB.
That album had some gems on it 💛
this is their best album at least for me. one of my favorites of all time.
It will forever be my favorite album.
Andy needs to talk more I absolute love him and his voice.
*Pete of Fall Out Boy talk about Folie Á Deux, which turns 10 in December 2018 😂😂
“Hi, I’m Pete Wentz from My Chemical Romance” -Brendon Urie
It really is one of the best albums, it has so many songs that speak to most of their fans. It is my favourite album EVER 😊❤️
Why don't they just play the songs more. Then people might actually know them lol. This is an incredible album and extremely underrated above the radar.
happy 15th to folie
Folie a Deux is a masterpiece. And that's not coming from someone who held it as their first FOB record. I grew up with everything that came before it, and loved all that stuff. But I just feel that FaD is the most underrated album they've put out on all fronts. It's beautifully meta, in that FOB meta way that's so special to us diehards. Also, What a Catch, Donnie, to me, is the seminal Fall Out Boy song and one of my all time favorites, standing alongside several other tracks from this record that I could also call favorites. I wish more fans would take the time to appreciate how musically diverse it is and unique it is in the FOB catalogue, sorta sitting right in the middle of their history. It's weird, melancholic, triumphant, tragic, meta, poetic and everything I love about this band. I'm so happy they finally spoke about it here openly and responded to what people have been saying.
Folie is great it's the first full FOB album I listened to.
I can easily say I love this album a lot. It resonated with me so much during that time.
i just found out about this album a couple days ago and have been listening to the crap out of it
Folie is hands down their best record and a top 5 of all time for me.
I hope Fall Out Boy knows how much I love this album
I remember absolutely nothing but good times with my family and friends revolving around this album. That was the era I first saw Fall Out Boy live on the Believers Never Die tour. Even thought he says they're not sad about the album.. there are clearly some type of resentment in terms of the reception they received for it. I think it was an album ahead of it's time. I would love to hear which ones he feels are sketches...
Pete always thought me to be myself.... and I'm not sure about the rest of the band but it seems he has been so concerned with making things that people want to hear rather than doing things for themselves... Like c'mon dude Disloyal Order fucking goes and so does so many others..
"it seems he has been so concerned with making things that people want to hear" - I don't think this is an unreasonable way for a popular musician to be. If you want to fill arenas, you have to make songs that appeal to lots of people.
Erline Andrews you’re right, but i feel they have compromised their quality of music (in my opinion) by trying to do this. i think since they had hits on the charts when they came out they felt that they belonged there and with folie since it wasn’t the best in regards to critics responses and what not might have lead to their unhappiness in the band too. Watching the videos of when they first came
back from hiatus in those small venues are insane, playing a bunch of deep cuts.. now it’s just like a greatest hits show.
"now it’s just like a greatest hits show." But isn't this true for any big band? U2, the Rolling Stones, Guns N Roses. FOB consider themselves a big band. They're not an indie band.
Sure, I've never been to any of those bands concerts, but I know bands like Pearl Jam and Radiohead go on for hours and cover a ton of content. I just feel like Fall Out Boy has become so concerned with being on the hot 100, that they are losing some of their essence. I'm looking forward to what this new EP is going to sound like.
Radiohead aren't Fall Out Boy. Fall Out Boy aren't Radiohead. I don't expect them to be. Fall Out Boy have a different audience that will have different expectations at a concert. A lot of their fans are very young. They also have a lot of casual fans who want to hear the hits. It's fascinating to me that there are a number of Fall Out Boy fans who see them as closer to Radiohead than to Bon Jovi when they see themselves as being like Bon Jovi. Pete said this in a interview. I suspect these fans are going to be disappointed with the EP. I don't expect them to return to their pre-hiatus sound. But one of the reasons I like the band is that they defy expectations and often surprise me, so we'll see.
I love all the FOB albums for different things, but I think there is so much meaning in Folie that was just missed when it came out. It's my absolute favorite.
i love folie so much but i would also love to hear a “new” “complete” version i think that would actually be kinda be cool to hear
What a Catch, Donnie, I love so much this song.
The album was before it's time. I slap this album on all the time. Some bangers on there!
Jokes on you. I remember it because it’s my favorite fob album. 😂👌🏼
one of my fav albums of all time.
wow i had no idea so many people disliked this album, it's my fav FOB album along with infinity.
This was the first fob album I listened to and I really like it.
Folie is my fave. Hello, comment from me a year ago saying the same thing. Haha. But rewatching this interview and thinking if Pete felt the songs were 80% finished, and to me they're already perfect..
What the heck COULD Folie have ended sounding like?!
literally, folie is tied with IOH for my favorite albums i can’t think of anything that needs to be changed on it bc it’s so perfect
My all time favorite album. Well, this and Achtung Baby.
Folie will always be my favorite album 🤷🏾♀️
My favorite album
technically that back cover was wrong, the actual covers were printed backwards and could only be read normal in a mirror...but go on
Wills Monsters nah that was intentional. i have the vinyl and if you look at it the licensing and copyright at the bottom they're printed the right way, which makes me think that the backwards text was a deliberate choice.
I can’t believe that disloyal order of water buffaloes is on the setlist now. I heard it live and honestly, I can die happy now having heard one of my all time favorite songs ever live.
This was the album with their "goodbye we're going on hiatus" song and no one else just sits and cries over it.; -;
Pinkerton is my favourite weezer album
