That's a great setup, with Dave Valentine and Ernie Watts. And... If you want to step in the spotlight, take up an instrument next to bass, or the other way round. I play sax for about 40 years, now trying my hand on bass for 1 year and accompanying singers. It's great to get a feel of what is happening in a rhytmsection, and also benificial for your other instrument.
