Perhaps because he wanted the speech to be pristine. Because… it was live. He was like, 74! And, it wasn’t a film…. There were no edits. And, he wanted to make sure he honored his dear friend perfectly. Flawlessly.

I gotta say, having Sidney Poitier's diction and enunciation over the video tribute for a man known for his glorious voice is so damn fitting.
