I started hunting pheasants on the wing in 1964 using a Bear Grizzly 50# @ 28". Hand built Port Oxford arrows with real feathers. The two bird daily limit have been meet uncounted times. That's hunting archery for me🎯
Thanks for sharing Fred. Nice Trophy room .
Awesome Fred! Love your videos and I own them all along with others. You sure can get a fellow trad archer fired up, jumping around excited after shooting a critter. After all In Fred's mind they're all trophies. Keep it up!
I shoot a 60# @28 predator recurve. I used the Ted nugent 55/75 arrow with a 190 grain Simmons tree shark with 100 grain brass inserts. For a total of about 575 grains which really pack a punch
So you are shooting an arrow that is under 9 GPP (8.9 GPP approximately). But I heard people to say that you need to shoot at least 10 GPP and over. What's your opinion about that? Do you think 8-9 GPP is enough for traditional bow hunting?
Had a bow length question for hunting... Draw length is approx 29". For performance & efficiency, struggling with the best ilf combo: 17" riser / medium limbs vs 19" riser / short limbs... What would you suggest?
Curious what speed you setup there shoots that?
400 spine at 54lbs? Isn’t that arrow too weak for that set up?
May be for compound, not for recurve.
@@greenhoodedvigilante458 yeah with that kinda arrow weight I can see that. I had to use 340s with 225 grains up front.
What brace height do you shoot on the buffalo at your draw weight? I am shooting the Gamemaster 2 at 53 pounds and still trying to get my brace height dialed in. Thanks
I'd say high 40s or low 50s.
what does "expeshially" mean?
fred..that's just under 9 grains per inch. That Buffalo has got to SMOKE that shaft lol. I know my takedown (custom, I won't mention bowyer lol) probably can't handle that light of an arrow...would you recommend a weight tube in the shaft? I too shoot 54 lbs, but @ 27 inches. Can you message on here maybe?
how did you get your wife to fletch your arrows?
I agree with the post below name. Nobody gave 2 shits about heavy arrows in Fred Bears days. Our generation has to complicate everything? I shot a 500pound hog with a 46 pound predator and a 483 grain easton arrow with a bear razorheads I sharpened with a file. Passed almost completely thru at 15 yards. So yeah quit making everything complicated dr ashby. So sick of hearing guys cry like bitches on trad gang about their arrow weight. I had to quit going to that site. Never new guys that shot stick bows could wine about every damn thing under the sun. Shoot your bow accurately with sharp broadheads............. That's it. And if you can shave hair off your arm they are sharp. Don't complicate another simple process by crying on trad sites.
Hey Fred, I purchased a buffalo and it’s the biggest pile of crap I’ve ever wasted money on. 36 years experience, and the buffalo just makes me angry that Hoyt let you help make a very loud and very slow hunting bow. $1100.00 is not cheap for crap. Hoyt formula bows suck.. shame, shame, shame. Regards Robert. Ps, I see you now shoot I.L.F. Bows. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeee, no more formula.
