I turned 75 this year, and this is the first time I bought myself a special gift which was a wedding band. My husband and I have been married 52 years so the ring is very meaningful for us.
Congratulations to a lovely couple.
My hubby and I spent 100 dollars cdn 50 yrs ago for our gold wedding bands. Our friends spent over 500 to thousands and are not together any more.
My mother-in law gave us her very small diamond engagement ring as she had been divorced. I was appreciative of this and when my mom died i got her engagement ring so I had them both make into one ring that was my own. I do not wear either of them aa I gained weight. They are somewhere packed in the barn. I will sell them in am emergency they are worth a lot in today's market.
Good for you for waiting you appreciate it much more now and are still married.
I am married 56 years this August. Congratulations on your gold band. Happy Anniversary for 52 years!
😊💛
God bless you!
I'm embracing a minimal life.
As in,less stuff.
Less to clean,store, move,have
Initially I misread your comment, and had a dyslexic moment. I read it as To clean less.....and I perked up thinking --- me too! me too!
Me3! I'm really enjoying having less stuff. I only regret giving 1 item away. It wasn't needed, but had more sentimental value than I realized.
I certainly need less to clean!
Since I started my frugality journey, I realized that when I buy little things that I WANT not need, such as stationery or craft supplies, it brings me more joy than bigger stuff that I need. I even enjoy the trip to get those things.
Of course we have to enjoy life along the way. In the summer we drive 30 min to put our big kayak in the lake and my husband and I like to do that.
On the dock is a little sandwich shop and we’ll usually get a bite to eat there too. Yes, we’d save money but not going, but it’s fun for us and we like it. Have to enjoy things 😁
It really is the little things that mean a lot.
My thing to buy is books, love reading. I did have to buy clothing a few weeks ago. Will buy a few clothing things in Fall.
I no longer shop during Christmas holidays! Since 2020 no gifts. Instead I bake or cook casseroles as gifts. I do this starting in October or make freezer meals to give.
Being a Senior: food insecurity is very real. Giving food during holidays is greatly appreciated when in a fixed income.
Your ideas are great, Dawn!
Love that!
I used to help my grandma and mom make meals for about 20 different older folks who lived alone and we would deliver those meals during Christmas. I’m glad they included me. I didn’t like it a lot as a 10…11…12 year old girl but it’s molded me to who I am today. And I like to make meals for neighbors and friends who have had surgery or are sick …
It’s a nice thing to do. 👍🏻

Thank you 😊💛😋
@@cjhoward409 Thank You! Food is needed much more than hand lotion or a scarf or a Man’s tie. Keep Going!
That's wonderful!
I recycle everything...if anything just gets "pitched out," it's because it is no longer usable for anything or usable anywhere. Not only saves money but saves a lot of time.
That's great!
I'm so glad you treat yourself. For years, my gift money went into family necessities, and I was grateful we had it. I'm able now to save my gift money and use it however I want. Love to all, Linda 💕
I would treat your too
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom Love you! 💕
Thanks for the wonderful tips Dawn. Have A Beautiful Day Everyone ❤
You too!!
Hope you have a great day, too!
I order groceries on line and pick them up in the parking lot so i know how much it costs.
I I hope this option is still available when I’m old and have a harder time walking. But I still enjoy going into stores. Sticking to my list but I like to go in because a lot of times I find something marked down that I can’t pass up to buy. It’s worth it to me 😊
@@cjhoward409Agree. Many deals are not advertised or I want something specific like cheese. There may be unadvertised deals or a discontinued line. I also eat just fresh produce and meats so like to pick out my own.
Wonderful
I try and go bare bones budget once in a while to keep me on the straight and narrow
Makes sense
😊
I've been doing that while my husband is out of town, lol. I'm trying to clear out our freezer of food he doesn't like. I'm planning to make tuna casserole. He hates it, but I love it.
Every time I watch, you. I GET A GREAT BIG SMILE .
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK from Canada
Love you
Me, too!
I just started a extremely tight budget , bc its the only way i can save anything. Im not complaining i just want to get rid of my debt .
Makes total sense
Good for you! 👍
Thanks for sharing these with us Dawn! I love budget rules:)
Me too!!
One thing I do that I haven't heard from you is that I grocery shop online. All week long I add necessary items as they occur. Before the day I shop (pick a day and stick to it), I edit what's in my cart. It is very surprising to me how over budget I would be if I just went shopping and got everything on my list. By shopping online, I can cut out and make adjustments to fit into my budget better; smaller sizes, decide to wait until the next week before purchasing, only one of an item and divide it in half to stretch. We all know how embarrassing it can be to have to put things back at the checkout lane. There are always people in line behind you, tapping their foot and making impatient sounds. Doing this online means sitting comfortably while making tough decisions. I happen to be disabled; sometimes I want to do the shopping for the exercise. When that's the case, I write down my list from the online app to an old-fashioned Grocery List piece of paper. When I can't, I just purchase and pickup. I'm too rural for delivery.
PS I don't like others picking out things for me, it is better to do your own shopping.
Online is the best! Coupons are there as well as shopping best prices for you. Also calculates for you...add items, delete items. I've wondered, too, why you haven't gone this direction, Dawn. Saves a bundle in time, energy, too.
I like going to the store
I'm just curious (for the future) when you shop online, do you have all items available at store or is it a pared down selection? Store brands and national brands? I, too, can't imagine someone picking the produce I would either.
@pennynickels5216 There is far more available online. You start by selecting which store you shop from usually. What isn't on that store's shelves, they ship to you. All of these items are without any additional handling, packaging or shipping fees to you. If the item is perishable, you have options: schedule when you want to pick it up and they will bring it out to you in the parking lot, along with everything else you've ordered, and put it in your trunk. (I always ask for bread and eggs to be placed on the floor of my back seat.) Or, if my local store doesn't have what I want, I change which store I want to shop from. The app does let you know where the next nearest stores are that have the items that your local store does not, and I just drive there and receive my entire order. So you decide which option you want. When I need to ask someone else for help, they drive to the pick-up site and my order is brought out to their trunk and they bring it to me, I have already paid for everything. This is the most popular option as many wives do the ordering and have their husband pick it up on their way home from work. Single moms love this option as they don't have to take their (sleeping?) kids out of the car. (We all know that children don't do well in stores.)

Thanks so much! Maybe I'll try a do a fantasy trip. Ummm, is it free?
It is a fun challenge for me to find ways to save on my budget. This week $1 chocolate cake mix. 1/4 in an oiled 10" frying pan 1" water.. fold in cake mix..cook like a pancake..cool..cut in strips layer with frosting..about 8 brownies $.30 + frosting not much clean up ,either😊
How fun
Om, AWESOME!!! 😂😅😊💛😋
#1 I always paid myself first. I'm a great saver, not so great shopper. I spend less using cash. I'm pathetic spending giftcards. I have 2 now for the fancy nearby organic market. Even free, I'm challenged to pay the ridiculous prices. But tomorrow, I will buy organic blueberries, strawberries and... creamsicles ! 😂😅 I can't stop thinking about them since Wendy's announced their new summer frosty flavor. 😋😊💛
Love that!
When I had a job where I was in my feet, I had a foot spa. It was also when I learned that well built footwear matters.
Yes, that extreme savings account is important. As well, a bit of actual cash available.
If I didn't plan for it,or budget it in,no matter the price,it has to stay wherever it is.
Unless an actual need
That's a good plan.
enjoy the foot spa, that pay for itself 100 times over. if your feet hurt, whole body is in pain, especially when you're standing for so many hours.
Good to hear it
My husband and I ask for gift cards for restaurants for birthdays and Christmas so that we can splurge and go out to eat. It's been wonderful to have these as a treat on weekends! Enjoy your foot spa, Dawn!
That's a great idea! Thank you love
Oh man, Dawn, I could give you my foot massager and spa if we lived closer. One of my budget rules is only spending one day a week. I'm not militant about it, but 90% of the time it works amazingly
Very smart
😊
That's really smart!
I have foot massager and I love it. I got it for Christmas a few years ago. I think that it’s a great idea to do something for yourself. You work hard and everyone deserves a little time to relax. And foot care is so important. 🥰
I totally agree!
I agree to save for emergencies 👍
I broke down and bought a foot spa for my terrible feet. Love it! Once I put money in the savings it is very, very hard for me to touch it, which my husband loves. Our bank now wants us to change to higher interest earnings accounts due to the balance and also try a CD. TFS all your knowledge. 🥰👍
Thank you. The higher interest Bank is good
Wonderful advice, a no touch savings account is a fantastic idea. I have one too and totally recommend it. The peace of mind it give you is priceless. I'm curious how many other in this chat have a no touch savings account...
I so agree. Thank you much
Dawn yesterday you asked if we have some frugal recipes. I have a few standbys but I really wanted you to check out Mindy mom . She is from the states so her pricing doesn't always work for me and I have learned Walmart Canada has different products than than the USA.She is economical, cheerful, and pretty creative I think you will love her site❤
I adore Mindy Mom
Your 4 tips are similar to mine.
I have 3 no touch accounts, that are high yield interest bearing. Emergency, Living Expenses 6 months, Final Plan - Death.
My checking is the active in and out account. Just a pass through. Every month and paydate a zero balance account.
I am at an extreme budget. 4 walls. Savings. That's it .
Works well.
I try to put $500 up in a CD at the first of each month. I keep enough in the bank to make my bills for the next month (see I get paid on the last day of each month). By putting up money away from my reach, I force myself to stick to a budget for the coming month. It hasn't been that bad. It helps me rebuild my emergency fund that got used up last year.
How wise
Very smart
@@rusticgardenretreat4892 Wow! That's a great way to replenish your fund!
Good for you! 👍
I’ve been doing the cash system now for a few weeks. And we’ve cut back. My only issue is if I find a really really great deal on something. I will stock up. Sometimes it’s worth it to go a bit over in one week when you find those bargains (although few and far between anymore ) and then the next week, cut back a little. I know we, as a family of 5 adults can spend $1,000 a month on anything food related. That includes the dogs, cat, chickens and any eating out, and any toiletries and cleaning supplies. We were spending on average $1,300 a month. So $1,000 is a cut back for us. 😊
The cash envelope did not work for me. It was good for me to see how and what I spend my money on at the grocery store in particular. I learned a lot about my eating habits that way.
Maybe you could add a category called "miscellaneous" or even "stock up".
You are doing great
@@Saturn57
I do have a misc category. That covers pretty much everything else except fuel for our cars, and regular bills like electric and water and any gift buying. We’ve cut that down 30%.
I do like the category of “stick up”. Good idea. Thanks ☺️
Utubes Under the Median breaks their budget into 5. 4 are for weekly provisions, the 5th for dedicated stock up. I do a non-food stock up once a year. That works for me. It makes it easy then to just deal with food.
Once all my bills are paid, if I have some money left over I allow myself one splurge a month on Amazon for craft supplies. As I need household things I add them to the basket and put a few craft wants in there too. When I absolutely need to buy something I assess the basket to see what I still want or need. I’m currently no spend for a couple of months and I’m not stressing. My basket gets reviewed every few days and nothing is that urgent, thank goodness.
I hope your broken toe is healing well. Remember to elevate when you are able to do so. Sincerely, Debbie 🙋🧑🦽 and Dexter-Dog 🐕🐾 my sweet tiny rescued Chihuahua 🐕 companion living a quiet crafty life 🏠🌵 in southern California.🙏🙏🙏😊
I keep a running basket on Amazon as well. I don't review it every few days, but only when I find there is something that I must purchase from Amazon like my hormone cream, then I go through the basket to see if there anything in there that I can afford and still want.
I do the same. A lot of times I’ll move some items into the “save it for later” basket. 😊
Love you, MM!❤
I love you too
Thank you❤
Considering your job I would say that foot spa is an investment!
I agree
I would never buy anything just because it would make my life easier if I didn’t have all my needs met.
True
Hey my sweet friend. I love your ideas. I learn something new each time. One of your videos, i mentioned that I make yarn puppies. You wanted me to send you a pic of it. I dont know how to do that. If you have an email address, i could send it that way. ❤
My email is on my about page
In my opinion...your foot spa would be considered a medical need since it will relax and rejuvenate your hard working feet😊
Thank you
My four money budget rules would be more like priorities- my health first, comfort second, retirement third, and the family fourth. Now, my kids are all grown and in their 40's, so my family portion of the budget is for doing things with the grandkids to create memories. Time budgeting is a whole different set of priorities where the family comes first. I found when my kids were growing up that it was important to know my priorities before I did financial budgets. Family came first with a focus on enrichment activities, education and social skills like scouting and sports. Retirement did not make the cut back then, but now that I am in retirement with no family in residence (no college tuitions to pay), I do things differently, with a different purpose, a totally different mindset. It has taken me five years to make that shift out of family into self, so it doesn't come easily. At the senior center, I am seeing too many folks worried about leaving an inheritance, so they don't spend money on themselves and suffer health wise trying not to touch monies they have put up. They save for tomorrow while suffering health wise today.
I would like to leave an inheritance, too. However, not at the expense of my health.
@@3TXSisters I agree. I have spent considerable amount on my teeth in the last few years. Why they didn't decide to give me problems when I had better dental insurance, I don't know. Seeing the TX in your channel, I hope you are doing well if you too live in Texas. Flooding around here has been bad. Many have lost their homes and do not have flood insurance. I think the freeway is again open today. Rains return tomorrow.
@rusticgardenretreat4892 I grew up in the DFW area. My older son and his wife live in east Texas. My mother, brothers, and a niece live near Dallas. They are fine. We were in Houston in March and early April for medical treatment, and I saw in the news about the flooding there. We've lived in NW Florida for 37 years but go to Texas at least once a year. Anything dental related is so expensive and usually doesn't last. I cracked a crown while we were in Houston. You can't see it, so I filed down the sharp edges and chew on the other side, lol. I'm sure my dentist will yell at me, but it doesn't bother me and I don't feel like spending $ 1,500 right now.
@@3TXSisters I hope all goes well with the dental visit.
@@rusticgardenretreat4892 Thanks!
Hey Money mom. Long time no see. How are you doing? What if you buy yourself something and your husband goes out and buy thesame thing to surprise you?
Hi Valentine. How are you? My hubby will buy me something on my list
I try not to spend alot. I am currently on that bare bonz budget after medical emergency. Im trying to put money away.
Best wishes
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom thank you what helps is not spending money on whst we dont need and finding alternative ways to do thing thst are free or low cost
Hope you're okay now and will be able to replenish your emergency fund!
Just curious m.m, if you have several accounts for different areas when it comes to banking, do you use more than one bank,? Does it drive the tellers crazy with all the separate accounts, or confusing?
For ex. I have 3 accounts plus two investment accounts. That's it.
Go online. Get high interest accounts. These accounts can be tied to your home bank .
You want to get 5% and it adds up. Let's face it, local banks pay nothing, so use that as your pass through. Put your money where it will earn!
Several accounts
I have a high interest bank too. It is an online one
@katethielmann4244
How do you tie it to the local bank?
Unfortunately I don't trust on line banking.too many problems. I would rather deal with a real bank or credit union.
