I absolutely second the many other comments on this video, please don't do such cliff hangers. We want to see content about the 401 journey, no reality tv bs...
Agreed. I donated money to this project and I am starting to question that decision now… This is not what I wanted to see
@@palmarhelgitomasson1969 I also donated and hold a similar standpoint. I hope he takes these comments, "The Community" seriously.
Yeah I donated too and not happy about how it ended.
Silly, this is not TV where you cut to an add break. I watch CZcams content to avoid this nonsense.
Ever since he hurt his knee, I started getting suspicious about this channel. Everything really started getting worse with the videos him trying this awful marketing with his injury, and the "community project" slogan... it just kills the channel.
You better release the next one quick. You don't need cliff-hangers like that to keep your audience coming back for this project. Almost all of us will happily come back without the drama.
After that silly crap, I don't need to see any more. It would probably be fake anyway. Like, I don't even know if his leg is even broken or if it's just another scam for donations and clicks.
@@Heathh49008 thought that too myself, fake injury.
fr
A little digging found his personal Facebook page. There is a pretty gnarly picture of the leg.
@@gplusgplus2286 Have a little faith. To insinuate he may be pulling a scam is not cool. And I'm being polite, which isn't easy.
To add to my last comment what I liked most about your channel was just you being you. No script, no gags, no drama. Just a guy trying to get a plane in the air again. This seems to becoming less about the 401 and more about driving for subscribers. There's enough of that kind of crap on YT so how about you focus less of being another clickbait channel and get back to what got you here.... a guy trying to rebuild a plane and bringing us along to share in the journey. Trust me when I say, how you started out is the right formula. Whoever on your team has you going down this path, please for the love of god tell them to shut up or better yet, get rid of them. Just be yourself. That's all you need to do.
Yeah I'm going to agree with the others, don't turn this into cliffhanger reality TV. I enjoy the content on your channel because of your knowledge and insight as well as the mechanical aspect. The rest of the TV drama can stay on TV.
Hey Guile
Sorry to leave you on a cliff hanger…. I love cliff hangers myself but can see that maybe others not so much. That taxi was very dramatic and especially the ending. We’ll post an update video this week. Thank you for watching 👍🏼
@@rebuildrescue You say you love cliff hanger's? What if after the engine fired the Original owner said to you, 'Tune in next week to find out if I give you the 401 or reneg in the deal.' Then you might get how much we all like this. True, he's been doing this for last 3 videos
I agree, this channel is starting to become too much like reality TV. Ask us to come support his journey and we want to support it, but making this into a reality TV show is going to start alienating his subscribers

I saw absolutely zero reason to do a high speed taxi on that airplane right now. Why? To get it running and stopping and then taxi it around the airport to warm things up a bit, sure, that sounds like a reasonable plan. However, doing a high speed taxi like that was very risky, and in my opinion, reckless. What if one engine had quit, or even more likely, one brake locked up as it heated up (I had that happen to me in a King Air once) and pulled you off the side of the runway? I'm a professional pilot and that incident almost pulled me off the runway on a takeoff roll. While you've left us with a cliffhanger, not knowing what happened, I can say it's no surprise, especially after filling the engine with fuel due to leaving the fuel pumps on. Whether it was gravity from the main tank that filled it with fuel or it was being pumped in every time the master switch was turned on, doesn't much matter as it's pretty apparent the cause is that no checklists are being used in either operations or maintenance. After that fuel in the oil happened, that engine should have been uncowled and inspected before ever starting it back up after that. Airplanes are cool but when they get bent and/or catch fire they can be difficult to get out of, not to mention the possibility of a hull loss. I just think there was too much risk on this one.
I was in aviation for 7 years, we take safety extremely serious. This guy shouldn't be around airplanes. Not having a certified mechanic, doing things without a checklist, performing high speed tests on an aircraft in this condition rather than getting it fixed properly first- its just another version of getthereitits. He needs to keep making content, and this plane will take years and half a mil to fly again, so he's taking shortcuts, changing tires, doing high speed taxis before he's ready just to get likes. It's disgusting and reckless and no one should give him a $.
I've been watching this series of videos since the beginning and things are starting to feel wrong. Given that so much fundamental work needs doing to the airframe (inspections, repairs, re-checks and certifications, for example) I can't help but feel that over the last few videos we're no closer to seeing the aircraft performing the role that we were promised it would perform. Given that many of us have donated money to the project with that role in mind I feel that perhaps some videos of this work being undertaken by engineers and technicians with the necessary qualifications would be more appropriate than stunts and reality TV schtick.
I get that Jason has hurt his leg and this has slowed the project down - that's unfortunate and accidents happen, but having read through a lot of the comments it seems that he may have some explaining to do. It would be a real shame to see this excellent project descend into any sort of clickbait or faux-drama with the intention of gaining views, likes, popularity or whatever. The viewers of these videos want to see that aircraft in the air, doing the job we were promised it would do, and if that takes a while, I feel we would rather wait for content that reflects the process of the 401's journey to airworthiness in the appropriate fashion than watch dangerous and half-baked stunts.
I'm sorry if the direct nature of my criticism seems harsh, and I don't mean to cause offence; I and many other commenters and donators feel that we should be getting what we signed up, and stumped up, for.
Thanks,
Jack
Jack…
I appreciate your message more than you know. I’m sure your feelings are much like others who invest their time with us on the channel. The day of the taxi was full of mixed excitement and emotions. @@rebuildrescue If you want it to fly again then how about you employ someone who actually knows what they’re doing? This is reckless and embarrassing to watch.
@@PhugoidOfficial I agree 💯.. just because he has a injury really don't apply here..most of the work is going to have to be done by AP's anyway so he should have people working on it.. I don't think we will ever see it fly again

@@rebuildrescue Jason, thanks very much for your reply; it's hard standing in the face of criticism and I respect you for doing that. The best of luck for the remainder of the project, sir.
Great to see, but the end...c'mon
I mean, if there is one thing that is frustrating about this, look at the first about 5 videos before he gets the thing started... a lot of draaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggg it out for the sake of views. I get that it takes time, but at some point you have to shit or get off the pot. Five videos trying to show starting ONE engine is frustrating enough...
This kind of ending is just what I've come to expect by him and it's all fake drama. Damn near believed his leg injury to be fake as fuck too... but too hard to judge that through YT videos.
I get having cliffhangers to get people to return to the next video but they could've at least shown what happened beforehand. besides, I have no issues watching the next thing that comes out, i don't need a cliffhanger to keep me drawn in.
Next time you might want to consider an initial test of the brakes by leaving the tug hooked up and doing a slow tow and allow the aircraft to use the brakes to slow or stop both. This will allow you to stop the aircraft if the brakes don’t work.
Love watching the progress, but hate the cliffhanger stuff.
Or check the aircraft logbook for outstanding work!
I would absolutely not recommend this, those tugs weight several thousand pounds if not a little north of 10k pounds. That nose gear will be torn off if you lock up the mains.
@@DM-kf1bt Yep, being pulled and stopping via the aircraft breaks would likely break things other the the forward momentum and I don't think he has found the books yet.

The little fire pryie put a small damper on things but bet he got what ever caused the small fire fixed by now and ready to hit the runway again!!
We just KNOW he wanted to pull back that yoke.
"Accidental" fire burns the plane to the ground so he's off the hook from the impossible committment of making it airworthy. Gets to keep donations. Evil, but brilliant.
200,000$ ready to be spent on the 401, but he hasn't bothered having an actual A&P(s) come out and genuinely give insight to the actual logistics of overhauling the entire plane. Even Jimmy World's 310 has been a very daunting task for him and his team, which makes this very questionable considering that they're working on a smaller aircraft and have actively been shipping out parts to be overhauled, and still have a ton of work. Not really sure how we're meant to believe making the plane taxi means anything much, like of course everyone probably knew that the plane is capable of moving itself since both engines were already running, but it's something that seems to only matter if you're making CZcams content, and aiming it at a general audience that doesn't have much knowledge about aviation. It's not more so about the cliffhanger, but more about how dragged out the project feels, even when there's enough money to start sending even just the engines to get overhauled. And I do agree with people concerned about the condition of the airframe itself and if the project is even possible. This is stuff that likely would've been considered if someone was genuinely trying to restore the aircraft, instead of multiple episodes of cleaning and making the engines "work enough".
I completely agree. There are many a&p mechanics including myself that have been commenting on the lack of supervision and the various tasks he is doing incorrectly. This is not some abandoned jeep in someone's backyard that anyone can tinker on and get back on the road. It is an airplane that requires a federally licensed mechanic to do the maintenance or at least be supervising all the work and all work needs to be documented in the logbook after each task is completed. He has done none of it and has actually ignored the comments trying to explain these facts or deleted them as some others have mentioned. I would love nothing more than this plane to fly again but it needs to be done correctly and show the viewers the correct way to do it and show them everything that's involved after losing the logbooks. He is making it look like anyone can go out and buy a cheap plane and wrench on it and eventually fly it. That can't be farther from the truth. The fact that the plane caught fire the first time they taxied it should show that their shortcuts and lack of proper licensed mechanic will end up getting people hurt or killed. As someone who is a licensed a&p as well as a pilot I would not put my name to anything he has done to include changing those tires nor would I taxi it after seeing the work he has done.
Jimmys 310 project is amazing. Very entertaining. Makes me wish people donated 200K to him instead as he actually does work.
@@charlesmilson920 agree 💯.. do you know that he has never completed a rebuild project

From the UK, still loving the restoration of the 401, I know the video doesn't reflect all your procedures so I accept that some details will be missing, pre start-up procedures, safety procedures etc. There are a lot of unforgiving comments on here, despite you having an unfortunate disabling injury! But when your back on your feet, with your contacts and enthusiasm, I'm sure the 401 will eventually fly.
However, this 'fire' cliff hanger was unexpected and does need an explanation ASAP, glad no one was hurt look forward to the next video.
I’m going to guess that the fuel running through engine 2 had pooled in a location that they didn’t check and the high speed taxi got things warm enough to ignite it.
Probably
Yeah, fuel leaking through the rings should have been a red flag.. Fuel ain't supposed to do that on idle, pistons are press fit into cylinders, the rings are there to stop large leaks during the warming up cycle of an engine as the piston takes more time to fully warm than the engine body does on purpose, seizing pistons in high RPM sound very expensive. Probably when the engine warmed up the gaps in the cylinder got bigger and hot burning fuel got injected into the oil system. hyper-pressurized oil system burst and suddenly with oxygen in it, the high temperature of the engine and burning jet fuel mixed in it, it's catching fire.
@scarletfla...
Dude, pistons are never press fitted- they have clearance so they do t seize in the cylinder.
Piston rings are of two types. Oil control rings and compression rings - neither are designed to be ‘fuel tight’ for liquid fuel and in fact have a specified ring gap.
Fuel under running conditions is mixed as a vapour with air.
and birds nests
@@ScarletFlames1 is this observation based on years of experience or just popped into your head? The only way fuel can leach into the engine case is most likely the engine driven fuel pump diaphragms are toast allowing fuel to run back into the crankcase. Don't know the results of the fire yet but I'd venture to say the engine pump was leaking a lot of fuel past the case drain and it pooled in the cowling though it should run onto the ground through the overboard drain. Who knows it that was even connected. Additionally after sitting for more than 13 years not 17 and given the age and condition of this aircraft a fuel line could have broken spraying fuel throughout the cowling. Flexible lines get brittle with age.
The inevitable conclusion to all this BS is"well, I'm very sorry to report the corrosion is so prevalent that it's not possible to put in a flyable condition. Rest assured all that money will be put to a good use."
Im thinking he already used some of that money for the trip where he "injured his leg".
Exactly what it thought
Keep it real man! We are here for support but this felt different. Felt just as happy with you when she was speeding down the runway!
Looking forward to the next episode, where my feelings that a fire is a convenient way out of a project in which you are WAY over your head, turn to renewed glee at what will be accomplished. Staying tuned one more round.
I really loved the show originally but lots of bad decisions being made on every level right now. He keeps saying the show is for you guys but in reality monetization has become the focus of the show, viewers aren’t stupid they know when things go from authentic to contrived and when they are being manipulated
I'm glad you're keeping Sam involved. I like that he's involved. I think it's important as well as honoring to him. I truly believe I've seen a change in his countenance as well. It would be fun if you just did a 10 to 15 minutes video on Sam's life and background.
Glad to see the 401 rolling down the runway again!.. Jason how about a complete inspection of the airframe next? A list of all the things that need to happen to get her back in the air. This way we can follow along and help you along the way check thins off the list and have some idea when that wonderful day might come to get to watch the 401 leave the ground. This will keep viewers interest if they have some idea as to how long the project might take. IMO I could do without the drama at the end. I am not here for that. Good luck!
This is being done illegally and back-buttward. Nothing good can come of this. Please cease and desist before someone forwards this video to the FAA. Lots of flags down on these plays.
The money raised is more than buying a useable 401 or similar the same age. I know some of the money would be used for Angel Flights, well I hope it would, and not all of it used up on the restoration.
If you are really serious about charity work, get the airframe checked and don't waste any more money restoring it if it has no chance of flying missions. The engines work good enough for taxing and don't need the cost of a full rebuild if it is never going to fly again.
You got it started, that was the original plan.
Seriously, I thought they would have done that as soon as they cleaned the plane. Before taking donations of actual money they should have disclosed structural integrity. Airframes are important.
this channel started out so good. this cliffhanger lets me rethink if I want to follow this or not anymore

I would like to add my voice to the chorus here. I think the reason most people like channels like this is because they are honest and undramatic. This project is super interesting and I subscribed because of it. If you have genuinely interesting content (which you do), the only thing you will accomplish by trying to dramatize it is to make your supporters feel like you are trying to manipulate them. That is a major turn-off to anyone who started watching this because they are genuinely interested in the project. In short, it alienates the very audience that you claim to value so highly. You haven’t lost me yet, but if this trend continues, you will.

Look forward to the next update, as a trainee pilot I can appreciate the seriousness of an engine fire, there is a shut down procedure in such cases, hope the damage wasn't too serious. As others have commented I have liked the knowledgeable and enthusiastic presentation style, slightly concerned around the ending of the last episode.
As an airline pilot myself I have to ask… how do you know it was an engine fire?

You are learning why A&P's always use a checklist for EVERY maintenance item. With no list things get forgotten and people could die. As simple as a socket left in the belly can jam the controls in flight. Get the maintenance manual and please use it.

Such an epic channel with an amazing creator.
In the end, if it was a drama, it was uncalled for, if fire 🔥 was real then I hope u all r safe
I’m a little worried that you’ve gone about this project kinda backwards because it makes for better videos. I feel like after cleaning it up enough so it’s not a biohazard, it should have been stripped and inspected *first,* then built back from the ground up. I would hate to see after all this effort that the airframe is irreparably corroded or something.
Also, this episode had an absurd amount of filler and can we not do the cliffhanger bullshit please
It will be a minor fire, or a little bit of smoke I'm pretty certain. This exaggerated BS trying for views will kill this channel. I sure hope he reads these critical comments, and stops trying so hard.
I could do without the boner pill adverts as well.
I’ve had suspicions about this channel/project since past the first couple of videos. Your right about the ass-backwards order of things. Some minor cleanup and then a full tear down and inspection by someone qualified would have been the way to do it.
The whole thing should have started with an inspection, good chance there's real corrosion and airframe damage that made even giving it a bath a waste of time. I doubt this plane will fly again without putting half a million into it, and by that point he could have bought 2 of these planes in good condition. The whole thing feels scammy. Dude is just milking drama for donations. Not to mention he just doesn't seem like a safety conscious person who shouldn't be doing anything with a real plane. Get mSFS where you can be am idiot all day.
Well said
At this rate of restoration anyone over 20 years old will never see the end of it.
Thanks... I still hope to live a couple of years longer (now 50)...
Regardless of the cliff hanger I really enjoyed this installment. Heck I even shed a tear seeing the two of you at the controls smiling. Can’t wait for the next one
Hey Jared !
I can tell you that day was full of emotion and excitement. We’ll have an update video released next week. Thank you for watching 👍🏼
Folks really need to stop donating to this project and actually get a refund. It was obvious to me since the first video that the work being done on this plane was be done by someone who clearly does not know what they are doing. From there, it's just turned into a bigger dumpster fire...
Something doesn’t seem right about the whole thing. Like, they left the fuel valve on and were going to taxi test without a preflight?
It has been stored outside for a long time in a wet climate. There has been next to no discussion about the condition of the airframe. If the airframe is in fact salvageable, you’d think they would have made a video about the inspection.
I’ll venture a prediction; the 401 series is just a bunch of pointless noise to get people watching their channel and make some money. They know full well (both rebuild and the owner/former owner) that the airframe has deteriorated beyond repair. My guess is that the owner was going to sell it for scrap and Rebuild said ‘hey can we mess around with it for 6 months to make some CZcams content’ to which he has agreed. I’m guessing they have contrived an engine fire and will then decide that the plane is beyond repair and move on to that boat thing. It is getting close to 6 months since they started making videos about this plane, in that time they haven’t really achieved much of anything.
Plus the fact that in order to comply with the outstanding Airworthiness Directives on this airframe is going to cost at least 300k plus complete engine overhauls makes me think you are indeed on the right track.
OMFG i thought the exact same thing!!
@@clarkpj1 Though, with the donations and sponsoring they should have more than that amount.
So at the end they will end with a restored old plane (all done after this video-series of course), made a bunch of entertainment and a bunch of money to pay the crew for the work and the video-works.
Or if not enough money raised for the overhaul, it can be put back outside for the next couple of years but at least the crew was payed, we got entertained (longer and longer video's for the real things to show) and if someone wants to put money in it it is for sale...
Telling stories that are deliberately untrue and asking for money could be fraud, who knows. I throught I'd liked the show at first but there were too many red flags early on that made me very suspicious.
@@clarkpj1 They already have 2/3rds of that from gofundme, so they’re actually well on the way to having the money to get it done.
Can't wait to see what's next. Hopefully the fire was just brake related and easily put out with no damage

So I love this channel when there is clear start and stop point to the videos, DIY and clearly just going along for the journey of the repair/rebuild process. Leaving off on legit cliff hanger with a fire. Especially after personally being in one, at least give the viewers an update in comments if next vid can’t come out soon. Clearly there weren’t major injuries if there was time to put in a dramatic cut scene with edits.
We’re ok and the 401 is ok. We posted a message at the top of the comments right away on Friday. It was a crazy day of ups and downs for sure. It’s amazing how much smoke some oil will make on a hot header. Thank you for checking in with us 👍🏼
@@rebuildrescue thank you for the reply! Glad everyone is okay!
I can sum this up with one word. WOW!!! How about actually starting to get some real work started on the 401 and put our donations to work. Please be done with the stunt shows.
Is this channel a scam? None of the videos show anyone actually working on the engine. Everything is superficial. Now the plane is toast and he will probably keep the money everyone gave him. If it is not a scam Jason should post his EIN so we can look into the charity.
After 13 years of sitting on the tarmac, it was exciting to see the 401 moving. I hope the fire damage is minimal.
That's what my math said too LOL
Good, I thought my math was off too, lol
Once and for all in aviation terminology....the parking ramp is not called a tarmac. Media gets that wrong just cause it's an airport. Tarmac is a type of asphalt not location. Parking ramp....taxi way. Runway. Fuel platform. Also that's not the correct diamond hazmat placard on the fuel truck. It's aviation fuel. Yes it's flammable . Type matters 100LL. In next episode: (after 10 minutes of ads and "previously on rebuild rescue..") "WelI folks I actually mistaken fire to a reflection of an aerodrome beacon on the wing.."
This show has been a great journey and I have really enjoyed the episodes. The last few have gone down hill and is starting to feel like a dine and dash. I really hope that all of the donations and funds from this channel will actually let the 401 fly but honestly, it’s getting harder and harder to watch. Good things end when greed takes over. This last episode is ridiculous, why even put it out? There are great channels on CZcams that have been down this path and then it gets too be too hard to watch because of ads and gimmicks. I do think there was an authentic feel at first other than the amount of production and your presence on the screen, it seems like you have had experience doing this before. Maybe instead of putting out garbage, maybe do a AMA or something to let us know who you really are and what your experience has been. This video with the cliff hanger is too much, next will be buying storage units at auction and finding Rolex’s and “treasures”. Listen to your comments on here. There are other ways to keep adding content and not lose the authenticity of your channel. Instead of just talking about how this plane is going to fly again, lay out a timeline and share with the viewers. It’s starting to feel like you are going to take the money and run, a little bait and switch. Just my thoughts but I think you are heading down the wrong path.
You're right, so many other channels like this eventually sell out to advertisers. I don't like it at all.
I agree but he's struggling at the min bc he's out of action with his injury. Let's hope he gets back to normal when he's able to.
I hope he gets back to normal too, I just think he could have created better content even with an injury. I get that, but there could be deep dives, I think an AMA would be good just to get to know him, his background, a change for everyone to ask questions, it’s more productive than a cliffhanger which has upset a lot of people including myself.
Why put the episode on? Umm, because it was a genuine update about bleeding the brakes. I don’t get the negativity.
Loving the series on the 401, keep it up can't wait to see it finished 👍
These comments are brutal! As a up and coming creator, I can understand how this would have occurred. But I also understand how it could have been handled differently. An update at the end of the video would have probably smoothed things over. I can tell you, this is a learning experience for me, now I know never to do something like this in my own content.
Yup.

I"m questioning the judgement of doing a high speed taxi test on a plane that still needs complete rebuild. I mean what's the purpose other than a joyride? You've said yourself that the wings have to come off, the engines have to come out and be rebuilt, the gear needs to be swung, basically everything needs to be rebuilt back to spec before an airworthiness certificate is issued. That's when you start doing taxi tests as a pathway to first flight. Is it even legal to operate the aircraft in the airport environment in a known unairworthy condition? And if there was a fire during this unadvised operation, wouldn't that be the result of the aircraft being operated in that condition?
I’m with you- the aircraft is deregistered and it’s operating on an active runway at a state funded airport. Like driving an unregistered car to the grocery store, but worse. The ‘fire’ thing doesn’t help keep this low-key and if the FAA gets involved it’s over!
@@chrisgilley3077 Depending on how you interpret the FAR's, unauthorized operation could include forfeiture of the A/C. Plus I doubt you can get ANY type of insurance on an A/C like this. Wonder who would have been liable had that thing veered off the R/W and caused a bunch of damage?
The aircraft is a piece of junk- let them take it. The real risk here is Sam’s ticket! The environment right now is hyper-sensitive with the recent CZcamsr who crashed his plane for views, and then the RedBull stunt that resulted in the crash of a 182. All for views. @@chrisgilley3077 It really has me wondering, we know airborne would be illegal, Why would a non current A/C be allowed onto a movement area. I know you can do ferry permits but there's no way an AC almost 20 years out of annual is going to get approved for one.
