It is theoretically physically possible, the shortest landing for a 747 was ~1100 ft with a light load. Assuming a larger aircraft carrier and the superstructure is taken down, It is somewhat doable. It doesn't break physics. If it was a real aircraft carrier they could sail into high wind and have a rolling landing severely reducing the required distance. You are still talking about a technically perfect landing however and full reverse thrust. It would not require arrestor hooks. It isn't as bad as you think, the 747 is designed for relatively slow stall speeds compared to military aircraft. With the carrier going 30 knots and headwind of 20 knots, and the stall speed of the 747 being as low as 100 knots, strictly a takeoff/landing could be performed with a change in relative speed of only ~60 knots, which is absolutely possible with full throttle and reverse thrust and airbrakes breaks and full flaps. While it has extreme risk and would look silly, the reason you can replicate it in the simulator is with practice it is indeed feasible.

But the precise point at which I knew that Walt and I were going to be really good friends for a long time was when he keyed the mic once again to say, in his most fighter-pilot-like voice: "Ah, Center, much thanks, we're showing closer to 200,000 on the money." It does not mean that you are actively on the ground, nor does it have anything to do with altitude. A plane falling directly towards the Earth or a rocket flying directly away from Earth have a ground speed of zero. Likewise, a plane's airspeed (its speed relative to the atmosphere) affects its ground speed. Well... how wierd was it to load in to catch up with some airforceproud95 and have them crash land in the town of Kennewick WA, where I currently live. It is NE of Portland, and alot farther than 80 miles. It does not even have an airport rated for a 747, not even across the river at our actual Airport of Pasco. And it would have been a wheat farm lol.

Well... how wierd was it to load in to catch up with some airforceproud95 and have them crash land in the town of Kennewick WA, where I currently live.
It is NE of Portland, and alot farther than 80 miles. It does not even have an airport rated for a 747, not even across the river at our actual Airport of Pasco. And it would have been a wheat farm lol.
Kennewick doesn't have a runway 19..............Richland does.

I have thousands of hours in flight simulators over the years. I started on Flight Simulator for the Apple Lisa. Currently using Real Flight Simulator 7.5 for RC pilot training. Your videos have convinced me to save up for Flight Sim X. I hope to do some formation flying with you soon.
