Last year was quiet. This year our city gave advance notice that they are going to fly drones to catch anybody using illegal fireworks. This year it sounded like Stalingrad in WWII.

I was an EMT for many years, Every year we had about 30 calls for service to teens that blew off a body part from illegal fire works. to this day I remember one that blew off his wrist but had his whole arm amped off from the injury.
Over 55 years ago I was about 18 years old cruising in my Jeep with my buddy in Sunland, SoCal, when we heard and felt a hell of an explosion up on the hillside. We pulled the Jeep as far up into the brush as we could go and there was still smoke rising. I saw something under a thorny bush that shook me to this very day. It was a human ribcage lying there, red and white color, no organs inside with smoke coming out of it. I threw up right there and we took off. Some neighborhood kids were gathering and one said ''Carl is testing his bombs again''. A friend from the Fire Department said it was him alright. He was about 16 and was into home made explosives. To this day, I cannot eat BBQ ribs. That image still haunts me.

@@onewingangel1117 This was true and really happened. Back then teens could disappear all day and do things, hang with friends, go places, then show up at home for dinner. No big thing. We later found out that the kid liked building firecrackers and bombs and every few months the neighbors were treated to huge blasts on the hillside. June 30 was the 73rd birthday my friend who was there with me. I brought this event up and he remembered it well. He was about 30 feet away looking at shredded clothing hanging from the brush trying to figure out what it was. When he heard me puking, he started to come over and all I could do was to wave him away and head back down to the Jeep. He didn't see the rib cage, just torn clothing and a shoe. That day freaked us both out.

Oh no! I live in Berkeley. Last night, I heard more than the usual amount of neighborhood firework displays. I had a bad feeling about it, like something serious was going to happen this year. Yeah, I get these teens were behaving recklessly (where were their parents?) but I still feel bad for the young man tho. He could be a decent kid that simply did something "young and dumb".
I know plenty of young and dumb kids that still have all their fingers and hands. Just sayin’.

I just watched another video of a parent that dressed as Uncle Sam and loved this holiday. They say he was a kind man. He lit a firework off on top of his top hat and died from head injuries. There was a meme i saw on July 3rd pointing out that it was the last day some unsuspecting individuals would have 10 fingers. Unfortunately this just continues to happen year in and year out
whatever he was was holding wasnt meant to be held. The type of firework with that type of explosive power sounds to me like it might’ve been a mortar shell. The kind that are supposed to be dropped into the fiber glass tubes they come with. But he was probably chucking them with his hand. His own fault. It’s truly tragic but it’s his own fault

3 major rules when it comes to personal use fireworks.
1. Always set up and set off fireworks under high supervision
2. Always be at a safe distance when fireworks are anchored and lit
3. Buy fireworks from a licensed firework company vendor and not from an illegal vendor that makes and sells knockoff fireworks
If he had followed these safety rules (or more). He could have kept his fingers and not lose his football scholarship
