She probably felt that since it's her daughter's child, it was her daughter's responsibility. Pretty much a bystander effect, both of them failed this child miserably.

I honestly feel like some of the mothers problems come from her own parents. I feel like she got mixed up with the father because she was seeking something that she wasn’t getting and now the cycle is continuing

I work with children and this is what I typically see. It’s so sad and it takes a toll on me. Poor kids who are being set up for failure and who will also become single parents and be on drugs

This child has been neglected for so long it's a wonder he is even still alive. His life has been a nightmare. I give her credit for finally stepping forward and admitting her many, many mistakes. It is far past time for her to put him first. Glad to see her actually doing that.

As a grandmother who has had custody of two grandkids for 6 years, I can tell you it’s not as easy as they make it sound to get your grandkids away from an abusive or negligent parent.

This so called "Mother" and "Grandmother" offends me. When I was 11 I was working, hustling, to get money and have called police many of times and none of them took me at a young age being a runaway when I was 5 years of age went to jail at 9 then when into programs that parented me so I had to pretty much parent my parent back. This kid will do the same. I still live with my parents and force to say things we don't mean let alone seeing them drunk and angry at times. This kid will be the same and will learn just like me as a man of my own having down syndrome. He will be better than his own parents and no woman will be not respected by himself. He know's the wrong to right and will never do the wrongs like his own family has. I'm done

Some days I feel like a horrible mom because I deep cleaned the kitchen instead of played with my son during those 30-40 minutes.... HOW can mothers of all people do those things that she has done for YEARS and not recognize in the middle of it how bad she is hurting her baby???😥😥😥😥 I just don’t get it. I beat myself up thinking I can do so much better when in reality, I make sure my sons every need is met. Everyone makes mistakes. Life is hard. Sometimes I wish people didn’t have to be beaten down so much but I understand that sometimes drastic measures are needed. Props to the mom and grandma for going on Dr. Phil and trying to make things better.

Totally agree with Dr.Spophy ! The BEST thing anyone could do for that pre-teen, is to totally remove him from the environment, start a new school ( if HE wants to), counseling once or twice a week in order to address his past neglect + abuses, and create a short and long term goal toward a trajectory of success ! ( Career goals, lifestyle plan, pro-social contacts etc).

Well, this hit home. That was me as a kid and I got PROBLEMS! At 40, I've finally actually lived in one place for more than 3yrs. Hope he doesn't take the general path by numbing it up with drugs. We pick up those habits even if we despise them just to numb our pain inside. I hope they get help. Truly.

Well then, I would have been taken from my parents after reading that list. My one parent would score 0, and the other would score 3-4. Numbers 1, 6, 7, 8, & 10 resonate with me. My childhood was traumatic & I’m still trying to recover from it, even with years of counselling & multiple medications. I turn 28 this month.

the mom, i can see she's trying. she's finally overcome her addiction, but, despite that, she's still unable to help glue back together the pieces. i hope she can get through this. i hope both of them can get through this, she and her son. i believe in them. the mother, she isn't an innocent angel. but she realizes her mistakes and is trying to fix things. she recognized she couldn't do this on her own, and came to someone who truly can help -- that takes a lot of courage, honestly. despite not knowing her, i wish she and her son the best. prayers are being sent out to both of them ♡(*>ω

God bless that little boy but this is how serial killers and psychos are raised with violent, drunk, or drugged out parents. Animals suffer at their hands and people. I hope the boy can get a mountain of help (I'm sure he will) and prosper amazingly. Saying a prayer now! @the grandmother what the heck! My son and wife had a beautiful boy a few months ago and I speak up if I think he has an annoying tag in his clothes or if he has slightly cold feet (he has expert care really). They adore him. This boy in this video will have a rejection spirit in him which millions have and is very dangerous and leads to utmost hate. He can be delivered with people's prayers (true born again believers prayers).

Dr Sophy has to be blunt if he's to save this child. Very likely, he is going to need a period of residential therapy before outpatient rehabilitation. The mother and grandmother both need therapy and parenting classes to help turn this child around.
