  • Acer palmatum dwarf seedling bonsai - root prune, root graft, and spring pinching for growth management of deciduous bonsai. This humble material is a great example of what can be created by any maple bonsai hobbyist. This tree was started as a selected seedling with dwarf characteristics by American Bonsai Artist Bill Valavanis in 2016. Although several years younger, this tree comes from the same seedling stock as the famous Kabudachi Japanese Maple created by Bjorn Bjorholm and featured on his ‪@EiseienBonsai‬ channel, now in the expert care of Aki Yamakawa ‪@MomijiEn‬ I kind of geek out about the parentage of my little tree.

    Hello?! I noticed your comment on David’s channel ‘ Blue Sky Bonsai’. I’ve only dipped into a few of your videos but already I like you and, as a retired professional gardener, I love that you’re talking my language and softly too! I know I’m going to learn a lot from you, and am going to pace myself rather than binge watch, quality is to be savoured! God bless you🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. 🙋‍♀️🇮🇱🤍

      Wow, thank you for the thoughtful comment! 🙏🏽 I’m trying my best to find a good balance between “rules” of bonsai, practical horticulture, and my own aesthetic taste, and lastly to keep a progression diary so the audience can become familiar with my group of trees. Buckle up buttercup! 😂 And don’t be afraid to chime in if I make a misstep. 🪴 🍁

      It’s kind of addicting. 😂 it was really hard to stop myself from pinching the Kiyohime…it’s at about 4-5
      Nodes since its last video, time to film an update to pinch its tips and control the growth. 🪴 🍁

      Thanks for tuning in! 🙏🏽 check out @horisoh on Instagram. My tattoo is traditional tebori, edo period design and color palette. What a great Tokyo artist!! Art stands alone, but FYI also speaks great English for visitors looking for a traditional tattoo! 🐉 🌊 🌸 🤩

    I really appreciate you showing the root graft. I have read about it a lot, but not seen it done - and while I have grafted fruit trees, I have not yet tried it with my bonsai! Did you use a cutting, or "just" a seedling? I am guessing that as there is no need to match leaf characteristics, any seedling would do.

    • @acer_p_bonsai
      @acer_p_bonsai  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Correct it is just a seedling. It’s always best to try to match bark characteristics when possible. For Japanese maples, I try to simple match green bark seedlings with green bark varieties, and red bark to red bark. Usually within a few years it won’t matter because the roots will turn to a whitish-gray color anyway.
      I think I mentioned it in the video, but I’ll re-emphasized here: make sure your notch is deep enough fur the entire section of grafted material to fall at, or slightly below, the surface line of the host tree. During the healing process it’s a much better outcome for the host tree to very slightly “swallow around the whip, than for the whip to sit proud of the notch and get pushed out as it heals.

      Good morning 🌤️ Ezekiel 17:24 at the end of your ‘about’ section. It’s just not clear it’s God speaking, but I’m delighted to find a Biblical reference AT ALL! so please take it kindly, and God bless you 🙏✝️✌️

      Definitely a little bit of eisegesis slapping that on my bonsai page 😅 but couldn’t help myself. 🙏🏽 🌳 🪴 🍁

      @gayefanner731 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Fair enough! I’ve more to learn from you than I anticipated, I’ve never come across that word, eisengesis can’t even spell it, before! I’m relatively new to Scripture really, being a lifelong heathen until the Lord called me !!!

    • @acer_p_bonsai
      @acer_p_bonsai  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Exigesis is drawing knowledge or conclusions out of scripture, eisegesis is reading into scripture, and not biblically sound…so what I was meaning is: that verse is not really about growing trees or trunk chopping our bonsai 😆 😬

    Are you using pure akadama for all your maples? Interesting video thanks

    • @acer_p_bonsai
      @acer_p_bonsai  Před 14 dny +1

      Not all my maples, but yes for maples in refinement sized pots. Due to my work schedule I can usually only water 2 times daily and I need the water retention of akadama so they don’t die while I’m at work. For larger training pots, I do 1:1:1 Akadama:Pumice:Lava or similar mix. Really big training pots, I’ll sub out less expensive materials like perlite, expanded shale, and a bit of mushroom compost.

      Are you talking about the tweezers? If so, I just searched for a cheap set on Amazon that had nice small pincher tips.
