In this tutorial, we will be going over the three steps you will always be used to mix your tech-house bass. Those three steps are Saturation, EQ, Compression, and Sidechain! Saturation aids in making your bass sound fuller and heavier. EQ helps control the frequencies of your bassline to make sure it fits nicely on your track. Finally, Compression helps in controlling volume fluctuations on your basslines to get a nice tight vibe.
Producing with purpose is something I've been huge on and today I will be explaining why we do these three steps and how to actually program them.

Fun tip for subs and basses. Take a one waveform from the kick and put it into serum or what you want, dyro made a tutorial on it long ago.

If you do all of this and still find your bass drowns out your kick or your kick drowns out your bass, you can also try a gentle sloping hi cut filter on the bass. this will lower the volume of the bass as it goes deeper, and thus will cut how boomy the bass is.

That was brilliant. I must buy LFO tool some time. My biggest struggle with making music is writing Baselines and melodys. Trying to come up with catchy patterns. I wish I could learn music theory but I don't have the patience. Each tune I make I get better with practice but still I feel I'm a noob despite making tunes with 2 years now
You have to play the long game. Notice where your weaknesses are and work on them bit by bit. No one writes a hit overnight.
All I make is tech these are dope videos still can’t get that hypnotizing percussions with the hypnotizing basss I’m stuck on the 909 kicks and kit as well . My sound is pretty descent but not the type of tech I listen to ! But love ur videos bro ponlÉ compa I’m watching 👌

Great vid thx! Can you show us how to mix Tech House Drums please?
I wouldn't worried about having a good punchy waveform before putting the sidechain because it will not make it feel the punchiness when it's activated. I would work on the transients and the punchy waveform when the Kick and Bass are together and just trying to separate the bass to the next kick to make the bass feel deeper.
Are you finishing this off with a kick/bass bus compressor to glue them together? That's like the icing on the cake is it not? Also I'm curious to know when you use a longer kick vs a shorter in combination with these baselines. I find some kicks have a perfect tone for certain baseelines but can be too long, and then if i cut off/re shape the end with LFO or envelope then you lose the weight behind it. If you have a more in-your-face bassiine, are you using shorter punchier kicks?

So just for people’s info, the smooth setting on LFO tool isn’t the same as bringing the trailing LFO edge in like in the video. It’s actually like a short release into the attack. So chronologically it’s effect appears at the start of your lfo.
Programming wise, it’s probably some cubic interpolation. And personally I like to do what he did in the video over using smooth. Maybe I’ll use a but if smooth, but I don’t like how it will technically allow sound into your kick since it takes place at the start of the new beat.
Zen do you do a low cut on the sub bass, to avoid a messy mix!!

7:11 What if we use Sidechain Ducking (like this, using LFOTools or Volumeshaper) as well as SoundRadix Pi (Dynamic Phase rotation Plugin) for Phase alignment between Kick and Bass so that all the low ends always stays in Phase?
at 15:37, the click happens due to the fact that the attack time is too low and the compressor is working on the peaks and trough of the signal instead of its volume contour because the attack time is fucking 0.020 ms and it is low frequesncy. Timeperiod = 1 upon Frequency and so the time period of a 100 Hz signal is 10 ms. So in cases like this, we need lookahead compression or just using Custom sidechain compression. Say we want to compress, contents of track A with 0 attack time. so duplicate Track A and name it Track A1. Now shift Track A1's contents to the left by 20 ms. Now put compressor on Track A and use Track A1 as the Key input to the external sidechain of the compressor and set attack time to 20 ms. That way, contents of Track A will be compressed with 0 attack time (In a way, this is the concept that created lookahead feature)
That's an interesting experiment to try. As for the Compressor clicking yeah I should of setup that a bit more properly but was just trying to get the example out. I personally never run attacks that low on my bass.

(On the context of this experiment, you can acrually try sound radix Pi and Powair. I think, as far as the digital technology goes, soundradix is the only company that uses digital domain to its full potential. Othereise the Track shifting technique works pretty well both in theory and practicality)
