The TGV TMST is a very special TGV:
-18 carriages (instead of 8 or 10 carriages on the other tgv)
-It could be cutted in 2 parts (9+9 carriages) both self drived, but it wasn't down at this day, only for maintenance.
-There is a power engine on the first carriage (like the Sud Est TGV (the orange one).
-This TGV could run in France, England and Belgium, so it must have all the equipment to go there, so a lot of equipment in a small place.

Moi j’aime pas les Siemens il y a une différence de vitesse le tmst est plus rapide que le Siemens 😡😡👎👎😒😒 pour les Siemens il aurait pu faire un effort pour la vitesse comme ça les Siemens est les rames tmst seront a la même vitesse putain les Siemens sont vraiment nuls 👎👎👎👎👎😤😤😤😤

- the engine cooling fans are quite different from other TGV because of the passage under the Channel Tunnel.
- Loading gauge is different in order to go in England. This may explain why the rolling noise at high speed is different.
It seems to be the most reasonable explanation. The air flow is probably different due to the shape of the engines and carriages. It also sounds as if there is an element of resonance from the suspension bellows that can't be heard in regular TGVs. I don't know if the TMST is more quiet or noisier than the TGV, but the prominent lower frequencies seem to mask quite a lot of the shrill metallic noise usually associated with high speed trains. It's actually quite agreeable.

Je pense que beaucoup de gens aime le bruit particulier du TMST.

Does anyone know why the TGV TMST Eurostar sound so very different at high speed compared to any other high speed train? The sound is very distinctive.
The sound is due to the Carriage design to accommodate British Rail loading gauge.

About 15 trainsets were refurbished as Eurostar E300. Other sets are scrapped or stored.
