  • Some Canadians say Canada's net-zero future must include nuclear power - noting that nuclear emits less carbon than nearly any other source. But some say Canada is already having trouble finding a place to dump existing nuclear waste.

Nuclear power is our future. Community’s need to be educated on the important of nuclear power. It’s clean, it’s, it’s regulated. We need this in order to continue supplying our future.

I think you need to find a better expert on waste. the amount is miniscule compared to that of tailing and poisons from coal and oil. It's not a solution but like oil its a tool to work with.

That wasn't an expert, it was some environmental group that doesn't properly understand nuclear power. I really wish they would stop doing these news episodes where one side is just completely uninformed, but the reality is the smart people are pro-nuclear. The "waste" isn't waste but instead fuel for new reactor designs. It could also be recycled (like in France) and recycled into the CANDU and other reactors.

  • @JJs_playground

Yes we need more nuclear. Nuclear is not the scary thing it was like Chernobyl, the new designs are much, much safer. Especially if we use small moduler reactors (SMRs).

It’s a shame Ontario is turning back to fossil fuel in 2024-2026 when pickering A and B are shut down. We need small modular reactors so units can be refuelled without shutting down the whole unit

Australia could sell 100million tonnes of uranium ore annually to every country on the planet.
    No CO2 problems.
Pure nuclear electric energy, with every country having its own nuclear industries.
Electric vehicles powered by clean nuclear electricity.
5 times more electricity in a no fossil fueled world.
Money in the bank for Australia.
    And no climate destabilisation.

We’re an intelligent species. A solution for nuclear waste will come soon enough and capitalism will profit off it. So I’m not worried about the pileup of waste as it could become a new fuel source for future Canadians once new technology emerges.

unfortunately Nuclear is only a stop-gap and or good backup to renewables... if we switched the entirety of the planet onto it and kept our use of energy consistent, we would run out of nuclear material in roughly 20 years... we also have no designated "nuclear toilet" where we can place all of the material that has been used so it is quite literally sitting in the basements of the plants themselves... we need to figure these things out before we go ahead with more nuclear.

FAST reactors waste last for less than 500 years and when they run a closed fuel loop their useful life is in the thousands of years.
you are either extremely ill-informed and/or uneducated but in any case keep it shut if you have absolutely no idea what you are pontificating about.
