    This ficus benghalensis is one of the best ficus. Mine didn't drop its leaves when moved continuously. Since the lighting was so crappy, my ficus went into hibernation for 7 months with no new growth. I put it outside with some shade, and it grew 2 feet within weeks.

    In the summer, I move my two trees out into full, all day sun and they love it! I pull them inside during the Minnesota winter but keep them near the sunniest window I can.

    This is the BEST Info I've found on this plant in about two weeks of looking.
    I was lucky enough to get three of them, at around two and a half feet, for $10 each. Reduced price because of sunburn.
    Thank goodness l found your channel tonight. Thank you SO MUCH !!

      I'm glad you found it too! That sounds like an awesome score! A light sunburn is one problem with a plant that I would gladly take over infestations, etiolation and whatever else may be wrong that caused them to end up on the discount rack. So sad! Let me know if you have any other problems or questions! Plant prudently!

    I believe they like acidic soil 5.5 aerated with some Peat Moss which is good as it is acidic and helps aeration.
    I have been researching in the last few days as I just bought one. I don’t have any Peat Moss but do have Clay Balls which I will add to the soil, placing a layer on the base to enable good drainage and aeration.
    With watering they don’t like cold water, being a tropical climate plant.
    Thanks for the extra info, very informative! Subbed 😊

    I have had mine for about 3 years. During this time it grew a few inches and I repotted into a larger pot hoping it would grow more. This spring I moved it outdoors and was expecting that it would drop some leaves due to shock, but it actually loves being outside! I'm in Arizona, zone 9b and it's already in the 90's so I have it on my patio, and its growing fast. I'm about to repot once again, this time into a large pot. I did notice some of its leaves have developed holes in them. Not sure if I should clip hem of let them be.

    Hi, I just bought a ficus carica that is small around 20" tall and would like to know what you recommend for fertilizer as numbers NPK this is quite confusing and want to make sure it gets the right number. Thank you.

  • @californiabookservices4072

    When you spoke about replotting, when in the year is the right time to do this? Also, best video I've seen about this ficus!

      I just repotted mine a couple weeks ago. I figure it’s best to do it around this time since it’s that time of the year where plants will be getting more sunlight and thus will probably want to grow more. I don’t know though.

  • @tomjones2157

    I had one that grew so big it got 7 feet tall and I had to give it away when I moved. When I brought it was called "Baby Ben" and in a teeny tiny pot so I thought I was getting a mini bonsai!! I would like to get one again but don't have enough light. I heard you recommend an LED grow light. Can you recommend a specific one or tell me what to look for? I'm in a house where there are small high windows and I can't get my peace lily and African violets to bloom. In my old house my Saintpaula violets bloomed almost year round the the peace lily 6 months of the year so this is why I believe I need more light.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 2 lety +1

      I sure can. You can check out the stuff in my description to see the exact same ones I use. If not get on Amazon and type in full-spectrum LED grow lights. For my smaller plants like baby bonsai, orchids, ferns, and African violates I use the gooseneck longer light tubes that glow purple, not just white. Now if you have about 10 or so light-loving plants as I do with my tropical bonsai trees I go with spider farmer grow lights. They are a little pricey but worth their weight in gold. Fortunately, we live in a great time to purchase grow lights, there have been some brilliant advancements with them and they are no longer expensive to purchase or run, they don't put off excessive heat and are way safer and effective!

      Are you giving them enough light? 6+ hours of super bright lighting. Or too much water?

      @renealee Před 2 lety

      @@weareorigin Just seeing this. I think I was doing both. Definitely not enough light and I watered weekly. I've learned more about plant care since then and I definitely didn't give enough light.

    Hey, I’ve got a problem. I’ve had my Ficus Audrey since December which I bought at a Lowe’s. It was doing really well the first couple months, even growing some new baby leaves which I was excited about. I’d say it had like 20 leaves at one point. Now though it has only five leaves. It was originally in my dorm at school near the AC so I took it home now to keep it away from drafts, and it’s in my north-west-facing room. It was still dropping leaves when I first brought it back. Now that it’s gotten nicer out I figured I take it outside on my deck when I can. Is that ok? I want to get the guy to keep growing and be happy. Should I keep it still in my room? Get a grow light? Fertilize it? Water it less? Water it more? I water it pretty much when the soil is getting a bit too dry so like maybe once a week.

    Hi there! My Audrey came home and had a couple of brown leaves from sun exposure. Lowe’s did a lovely job of leaving her root bound as well. She’s been losing leaves and today I repotted her and she is getting lots of indirect light. I watered her prior to the transfer, so I didn’t water today. Considering the falling leaves, or in general, any tips? Thank you!!!!!

    I am planning to grow this in Vermont. For a significant part of the year, it will be indoor. Any thoughts on artificial light this would need?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  Před 2 lety

      Yes, I find mine is right at home with the LEDs I have him under. Just get on Amazon and type in Full Spectrum LED grow lights. Consider your plant's size, and future size when choosing which LED light to use. With the size of mine, I have him sitting underneath my Spider Farmer LED grow light. This is one of the better more expensive grow lights out there. It cost me around 150 bucks I think. I can sit him and about 6 or 7 other plants smaller than my Audrey underneath and they are all doing just fine. If you have a smaller plant you can use the cheaper ones on there. Just make sure you ALWAYS read the specifications and the reviews before you commit! If you want to see the ones I use for smaller plants and orchids check out my description box. If you have more questions about the lights and the quality or anything of that nature let me know and I'll go into more detail about them! Just remember Audreys love bright, filtered light! Try not to skimp on the light and quality!
