Honestly the JWST pictures are jawdroppingly beautiful, terrifying and sad all at the same time. Sad we're seeing the memories of the galaxy around us.
@@PopeGoliath I like to think of the newborn wonders that will *never* reveal themselves to us because of our distance. the cosmic point of no return... where our galaxy is in a universe expanding faster than the speed of light, the light of distant galaxies will never reach earth.. and we will never be able to observe it.
@@lostpockets2227 try not to think about how more and more stuff crosses that horizon all the time, and the amount of stuff we can see will eventually shrink down to just our one galaxy.
Turns out there’s a possibility that the speed of light is not what we think it is, and that we’re see the stars and galaxies exactly as they are right now. Veritasium has a great video explaining the 2-way speed of light
These deep field views of the universe first with Hubble and now with JWST are just awe inspiring to see so many galaxies in what appears to be at first glance to be just vacant space.
I'm always fascinated by the conditions on other planets, and how we know about them because of the spectra from the starlight shone through the atmosphere, and how that only happens because of the quantum nature of light and electrons leading to discrete energy levels.
As pretty as the pictures are I want to know every single thing that the JWST allows us to learn. I want a JWST daily briefing lol 😆 so thank you so much for this vid.
Thumbnail picture as a desktop wallpaper is highly desirable! maybe with a slightly subdued graphic over the background, if I could make a suggestion :D
How old are the oldest second generation stars? Does anyone know? I assume that they need to be at least second generation to have planets with the higher elements, and so make life possible.
It's the paradox that almost every online presentation shys away from. JWT deep field images are seeing fully formed spiral galaxies with billion year-old 2nd generation stars a mere 180 million light years from...what Big Bang? Based on our present knowledge of the forces of nature, in what possible scenario can these galaxies and stars be created in so short a time?
@@StephenGoodfellow Thanks. It seems that with every year, and every new piece of equipment, astronomy is being dealt problems with its current theories. Inductively, we know science paradigms change through history. Perhaps it is exciting that the astronomy paradigms are so on the edge of change right now.

"Waste of time, we are alone." - AS IF the only reason to do astronomy is to search for little gray aliens? Dude, discoveries are their own testament and reason for being.
We almost certainly are not alone. There is other life out there. At least simple life is a completely guaranteed fact. There are like six places in just our solar system that mostly likely have or did have life other then earth. And while other intelligent life isn't as guaranteed, it is damn close. Now, that obviously doesn't mean it's been here, it hasn't. But it is out there. Just looking at our galaxy it is basically impossible there isn't intelligent life other then us. Then take the other few hundred billion galaxies and it is out there.
Great claim which could save us a LOT of wasted effort if you can support it... which you cannot as it is literally impossible to ever say that we are alone no matter how long we look. Should be some great evidence you have.
Heres a thought to ponder, if we find exo-planets that are essentially a early version of Earth at over say 1 billion light years - 3 billion light years away, we'll never get there but would it not be a good assumption that they may have life now at this present time we just can't see it yet.
Amazing stuff. Thanks Savannah! JWST is such a great thing. So much data and knowledge.
Honestly the JWST pictures are jawdroppingly beautiful, terrifying and sad all at the same time. Sad we're seeing the memories of the galaxy around us.
Maybe that’s still somehow a happy thing!
Just think instead about all the newborn wonders out there that haven't had time to announce themselves to us.

I'm in absolute Awe of JWST's capacity on expanding our understanding and knowledge of our Universe. Super gnarly tidbits of information.

I never know whether to say JWST or James Webb Space Telescope, since both pronunciations have the same amount of syllables.
I thought the guy James Webb got cancelled on Twitter so now we call it JWST to not get cancelled ourselves.
Oh crap! I keep forgetting the get some JWST desktop photos.
This was an excellent presentation, thanks, I have subscribed
Is there a place to get the thumbnail for this video? It's a wonderful art piece
Oooh! I've been looking forward to this video ever since the telescope successfully launched!

I'd be happy with spectra. Pics are cool yeah but a lot of the data is just graphs. I want those, please

why would you want to know the composition of a planet that is so close to its star?? research just planets in the habitable zone
I know how you detect PAHs, you just grab someone by their left earlobe

PAHs? You mean those things from the Bajoran religion in DS9?

i wish we could all call it the webbiscope or some more fun name than the clunky acronymn. maybe "joust"
Just a note, chemist generally refer to "PAHs" as "P-A-H-es" not "Pawz"
Well that name sucks
