    He has got more play in that right front wheel than I do on my old 1961 case tractor. I would think that would make it harder to hold a line than need be.

      A torsion bar inside the steering box controls the amount of deflection you see at the right front wheel. A stiffer bar would lessen the movement but it would be at the price of excessive feedback at the steering wheel.

    • @jimmycomins7400
      @jimmycomins7400 Před 5 lety +1

      Dwarfracer88 the perforations come from what’s called a sheepsfoot. It is a piece of track equipment used to pound the dirt in tight so it doesn’t break apart. And as for 2 I have no idea, has always puzzled me with sprint cars

      Bump steering!

    • @danwiskow6566
      @danwiskow6566 Před 5 lety +6

      The steering moving around is due to the steering sector having a torsion bar that attaches to the Pittman arm. They come in different diameters depending on preference and manufacturer. It's normal for them to move some but when the driver turns hard one direction or the other it will turn the wheel with ample force.

    • @sbh_tx
      @sbh_tx Před 3 lety

      I’m a little late but the answer is yes kind of. Sprint Cars have two rear wheels of different sizes. The left side tire is smaller than the right. This produces an effect on the car similar to rolling a solo cup around a table. In well setup sprint car the driver has to do minimal steering through the corners

      The motors run on methanol so they rarely get above 180. Especially on cool nights. They have engine warmers in the pits to warm them up but the radiator and aluminum block dissipate heat very quickly

    • @Corky3D
      @Corky3D Před 3 lety

      @@tysherberd8586 Behind the scenes the usually have time to warm the cars up. Most tracks have something called "heat in the motors" Push the cars on track, they may run a lap. Come to the pits and keep running for about 10-15 minutes to get heat in the engines. Then you'll usually kill then engine and hook up an oil heater that cycles heated oil through the engine. You also have salamander heaters point at the engines. Also like another person said you're running 99.9% methanol, which helps you run cooler temps.

    • @jimmyd8157
      @jimmyd8157 Před 4 lety

      No they don't have a starter.
      No transmission either.
      It's in gear or it isn't.
      Meaning, to start engine,
      You put it in gear,
      Then push the car with another vehicle.
      If you take it out of gear running, you can't put it back in gear without shutting engine off, put in gear, push again.
      ( Has no clutch )
      Direct drive.
      Notice start of race, ROLLING Start.
      They are the most awesome type of ANY Race CAR in my opinion.
      Go to a
      World Of Outlaws
      Show.
      Be like nothing you've ever seen.
      I do the same type of racing on Dirt, but on a motorcycle.
      Flat track motorcycle racing.
      Check that out too.
      Both very cool, and takes big balls to do either one.
      TRUE AMERICAN Sports.
      Hope you go see both.
      PREFERABLY on a MILE dirt oval.
      Very fast, (triple digit ) fast,
      Inches apart in both cases.
      These men & women, ( yes there's a few )
      Are TRUE GLADIATORS.
