The reason he lasted as long as he did is not because he's the strongest but because he's the smartest he's the most clever he's the most prepared as he says in that season 9 episode that you just quoted "you're good but I'm crowley" meaning he will always find a way to be on top and the only reason he's gone is because he wished it as opposed to someone just simply finally beating him.
