Interesting detail at 9:10, the pirates are already dead as they are being crucified. According to some sources, Caesar showed the Cilician pirates his merciful nature by slitting their throats before nailing them on crosses, as a reward for his good treatment while in captivity.
Also Crassus' ghost tormenting slaves with his theme song is the funniest thing I've seen.
What is that song btw?

There I thought we all hailed from the Yamnaya/Corded Ware culture, over 8,000 years before that lol.

@@mysticnovelbro Dovahatty.. he's.. A SLAV
"How do you go from Caesar to Seazer anyway?"
You can thank the French, aka the Franks, for that.
It goes a little deeper, though. All of us in the Med spoke Latin all proper but it got softer and swifter with time altogether. Literally all of us say a variation of sezar in Latinamerican spanish, chesar as in italian, thesar (th as in path) as in peninsular spanish...
The only legit ones are the sardinians with the kesar.
Oh and the ae-->e happened to all of us as a whole before we divided in separate tongues.
True. I was just explaining the English pronunciation of Caesar.
That's an unroman way to spell "Gaul."
The franks arent the proto french but were a central germanic tribe, so to say forefathers of the french, english, germans, swiss etc
@@alonsoACR relatively isolated islands preserve cultures well. Thats why Sardinian/Corsican is closer to Latin, and Icelandic is closer to old Norse
Can't wait until we get to King "GIBS ME DAT!" Alaric.
So would Stillicho, Alaric’s nemesis, be drawn as half Chad half Germ, or full Chad (maybe Dovahhatty handwaving that Germ dad was a rumor or his Chad blood overpowering his Germ genes).
Emperor Honorius could be Virgin or Wojack since he murdered who is basically a loyal and competent general...and murdering the families of German soldiers that resulted in a mass mutiny bolstering Alaric’s strength.

Israel is just a place for Jews to escape to and launder money in, not a true nation. A nation produces, goods, culture and people with a unique thought process/mentality. The Nation of Israel is nothing more than a cabal of thieves using their "nation's" sovereignty as a shield against prosecution/extradition.

Setorius is sooooo underrated. You could do a whole video about how this guy was basically Ancient James Bond. He infilitrated the German hordes and spied on them before returning to the army and helping absolutely crush them!
Man was hardcore. A real Chad for sure. He had quite the interesting life. Dude got beaten the first time he was in Hispania, then took over a new territory in North Africa. He the gained the loyalty of the locals and beat a sullan army meant to kill him. He returned to Hispania when the Lusitianians asked him to return then took it over. He basically founded an Rome away from home whole he was in rebellion. Despite having so little to work with he accomplished quite a bit!
He also lost an eye in one of his battles and continued fighting on. Say what you will about Marius and his (lowborn) family, but, damn, were they good at war. Except Marius' son.
"You gotta give it to the jews, no matter how many times they get slaughtered, they never give up on their jewish ways" -got me lmao
I'm loving this series so much but please stop confusing Sicilia with Cilicia, even though they were both pirate havens.
I did that wrongly on purpose to annoy those who knew it was wrong. Its one of my joys in this series, altho it does get mixed up with the actual mistakes

@@intergalactichumanempire9759 Ah, I see Nintendo is still bitching about that I see.
It's worth mentioning, just for accuracy's sake (not this series' top priority, I know) that the rulers of Judea at this time weren't Jewish. The people were Jewish, but their rulers were Greek (although some of them practiced the Jewish religion). Just look at their names, very Greek. That's just the way things were in the eastern Mediterranean at the time, thanks to Alexander the Great.
Those particular two were descended from the brother of Judas Maccabeus, AKA the Hanukkah guy.
For accuracy sake The Hasmonian dynasty was pretty much the purest Jews(from the family of the high priests)lol, Yehuda, Matetyaho, Yesi,Jews in that time had Hebrew names and Greek names, like the Greek Alexander would be called Yanayi in Talmud/Mishna.
They were absolutely Jewish, they were partially Hellenized, but they were Jews through and through.

Hi Dovahhatty; I loved your works so much that I added English and Turkish subtitles to some of them. However, they are not accepted for a month now; most subtitles are accepted in a few days. Did I make a poor job or what? How can I make this acceptance process faster?
Was it for the Mad Emps vid? it should be visible now

These video's made me play Rome as House of Julia again in Rome II
I wish I had learned history like that in school
That's the third time I'm watching this over the years and I've only now noticed it ( so I'll point it out in case nobody else has already, to prevent people from looking in other places on the map). In 9:40 ( and before when you refer to the captors of Caesar) you call the area Cecilia ( don't know how you spelled it) ( which awfully sounds a lot like Sicilia); It's Actually Cilicia (Κιλικία, with a k sound in Greek).
whats the name of the song he is playing when talking about the jews?
Where are you from my guy? I'm curious about your accent (:
Most think I'm Russian or some Eastern European when they either hear or meet me. I'm actually Brazilian, of Italian descent (unironically)
Dovahhatty Haha I wonder if you ever think >my ancestors kara booga
But really that's not something I would have guessed. I didn't mean anything negative about it by the way. It's a nice accent (:
It's rather uncanny to be a romaboo in my family. Like for example it made me notice how literally everyone in it (including me) are named after roman emperors. One uncle is Aurelius, another is Marcus, then theres Paulus here, a Claudius there... Must be fate.
@@Dovahhatty haha thats actually very funny (: also I hope you're not planning on stopping making these videos because I really like them :)
But seriously though is your name Elagabalus? Didius? Pupienus?
I'm not stopping at least until finishing the series on Rome, and will likely continue given how people seem to enjoy it. And my name is a derivation from Gaius.

First of all awesome chanell! One question why does everybody say the Caesars ancestors had been irrelevant for years when his uncle is arguably the most important man in terms of destroying the republic. I know Marius and Caesar were not relater by blood but Marius still marries Caesar’s aunt.
You know, this channel is mostly a joke.
ancestry wasnt passed on by the mothers to their sons, your ansestry was linked to your father’s clan. He meant that the julians were the ones with no significant contributions up untill caesar

I was so curious how you'd reconcile Caesar's politics here considering all that 'commie shit' previously, and I was not at all disappointed. I'm glad you got settled into a good balance and tone when it comes to the satire of these videos. Not gonna lie, during the first few I was unsure just how much of your own farts you were smelling and by this point I think the answer is "just the right amount." I still can't forgive you for putting me in the position of having to side with fucking John Green on something (a digression that didn't seem like satire, but was also a really fucking stupid point to make as a refutation so it kinda seems like satire), but yeah - good meme.
Wasnt Crassus a plebeian (albeit a really rich one)?
@@Asfirnal Crassus had "fuck you" money, so the rules didnt really matter so much, Id assume.
But yeah, I looked more into it. He was indeed technically a plebeian, but his family had already been prominent for a while by the time he was born
By the end of the republic, the plebian/Patrcian class divide didn't really matter anymore. They intermarried, they could both serve in political office, and each were afforded the same rights. By Caesars time, the four most powerful men in the senate were all plebians (Cicero, Pompey, Cato and Crassus). There was even a famous case where a patrician was adopted by a man younger than him from a plebian family, so he could serve as Tribune of the Plebs.
