  • Unitree, based in Hangzhou, China, first showed off the Go1, a $2,700 robot with four legs, just two years ago. Since then, the Go1 has had a big effect on the tiny quadruped research field because it is a very rare combination of speed, usability, and low cost for a legged robot. Unitree just came out with a new model called the Go2 Pro that is both much better and ridiculously cheap. It moves faster and more quickly, and it now has a laser too. What does Go2 Pro mean?

It doesn't cost 5,000. Got mine for around 2,000 dollars.

The pro version now costs 2800 US dollars from the company itself, but you have to buy the arm separately which costs 2-3 times as much as the robot itself

Gosh, I hope it's not actually insane. Why would the make that? Why would they release it? (dumb thumbnail caption)

WHY??? What purpose does this serve? We love dogs, not because they are useful, but because they love us back, usefulness is just a bonus. Anything a dog brings, that a robot can do better, does not need to be done in a dog shape.
I am seriously wishing we had a whole different group of people working on Robots and AI. Instead of trying to build things that go far beyond what our frame is capable of, they are trying to mimic what we already have. And unless they are trying to deceive humans, or are a loser that wants to surround themself with a normal society, without any other actual living beings, this is not a very productive direction.
I saw the most ironic picture to underline just how ridiculous this has all gotten - it was a Human Robot, vacuuming a Living Room.....I guess Roomba is going to be replaced by a Maid Bot and an old Electrolux, how poetic.

"companion" dog? Hell no! But a utility dog to help you with whatever physical task you do or even rescue, then I would say yes.
