The City of Fairfax (/ˈfɛərfæks/ FAIR-faks), colloquially known as Fairfax City, Downtown Fairfax, Old Town Fairfax, Fairfax Courthouse, or simply Fairfax, is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 22,565, which had risen to an estimated 24,019 as of 2019.
The City of Fairfax is an enclave surrounded by the separate political entity Fairfax County. Fairfax City also contains an exclave of Fairfax County, the Fairfax County Court Complex.
The City of Fairfax and the area immediately surrounding the historical border of the City of Fairfax, collectively designated by Fairfax County as "Fairfax", comprise the county seat of Fairfax County. The city is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as a part of Northern Virginia. The city is 17 miles (27 km) west of Washington, D.C. The Washington Metro's Orange Line serves Fairfax through its Vienna station, which is a mile northeast of the city limits. CUE Bus and Metrobus operate in Fairfax. Virginia Railway Express's Burke Centre station is situated three miles southeast of the city's boundaries. Virginia's largest public educational institution with 35,189 students in 2017 is George Mason University, which is located in unincorporated Fairfax County, along the city's southern border while still having a City of Fairfax address and sharing the same public transportation system.

Was being a pizza delivery guy over here because I deemed it as the most safest state. People ar so generous in this state and felt most safest other than in any states.. wonderful virginia..truly it’s for lovers 💯
i miss there soooo much, cause i leave over 2 years right there as a undergraduate students from China in GMU. I might not miss Fairfax, but the people who i met. The time I spent, and everything i saw as a "young boy"

I really enjoy living here. It remains an accessible city, unlike nearby Vienna.
Vienna was not planned; the City of Fairfax, however, largely was - especially under Herrity. (Seriously - compare the City of Fairfax to Reston - also a planned city - in fact, it was the ORIGINAL planned city in Fairfax County - despite it bordering Fairfax and Loudoun County.)
I love Vienna. I live just off Maple and EVERYTHING is walking accessible.

This is the county seat of Fairfax County - also known for a long time as the Kingdom of James Herrity - the longtime Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County - by his friends, his adversaries, and the media. (Yes - the Fairfax County Parkway was his "baby" - which is why it is named after him.)
I resided there when attending George Mason University. I liked it very much

Still wish they would just block off car traffic on Main St. in the downtown. That was the whole point of making the little bypass, but drivers complained, as they always do. It would be faster & make the downtown so much more pleasant if they just sent all traffic around. They could even take out a whole set of lights. But no. Can't take an inch of space from a car or every driver loses their danged mind.
