His picking style is very similar to Eliott Smith, but Shakey's influences are quite the compendium. Everything from punk, to folk, to hard rock
My dad is a guitar teacher and we recently worked up Bully's Lament (live Lubbock barn version). He said he hears a lot of Scotty Moore, Elvis's guitar man, in his playing.

Love shakey but I prefer the accoustic versions of his songs. like late july. I heard that brilliant version out in the field and the album version wasn't up to snuff for me.
