what i wanna say is, if the opponent is looking for that one attack you are confident that will push the opponent back, he will want to avoid that, and to avoid that hes backing off in a neutral distance. where its safe enough to not get hit by your "one attack", but enough for you to get versatile and comfortable enough. in other words offense can be a good defense, like a spear that also works like a shield
