The spawn locations and the fact that it's "secret rooms" is the same as The Binding of Isaac. Even the pits that stop secret rooms from spawning is the same. The UI is also very similar.
Bootcamp for new Isaac players
exactly what i was thinking. looks cool tbh im gonna try it out
This is actually a rebranding of Find Me A Secret Room, which was explicitly based on Isaac!
19:00 it's because the rule is valid for the room, even if there can be other possible places. The dynamite and similar items help to get rid of the extra options. Btw maybe you should leave the angel and demon for last, since they also depend on secret rooms.
On the other hand, other rooms also depend on secrets. Like the reason at 17:42 the second room wasn't a guest room was because there was a sneaky common room above it, invalidating "only one room" rule for that location
11:40 That's minesweeper! Always gonna get one of those 50/50 random guesses
Ah, Binding of Isaac Secret Room Simulator~
YES, IT'S DEFINITELY THAT(sorry for yelling)
I didn't notice until I read comments after watching. Now its so obvious!
the map looks exactly like the binding of isaac mini map
i believe that was the inspiration since binding of isaac secret rooms have very specific spawn criteria
the soundeffects are also the same as well as some graphics. a lot of assets used from binding of isaac.
This game seems like it revolves mostly around winning coin flips, which is admittedly what high difficulty minesweeper also is. Interesting to see what mechanics they add to mitigate this beyond 'use item to check one option'.
Minesweeper logic puzzles that involve reading specific differentiation of room types… Tom is truly putting himself to the test.
It's one and not the other because it's only one of them. Just like Minesweeper, sometimes you just have to guess between equal possibilities.
After playing the game myself, I feel like it makes sense that it has an RNG element with two equidistant rooms that could both be the answer. Using items to mitigate RNG is a core part of any dungeon delving. BTW, thanks for showing me a new cool game!
This game looks fun, I did find it mildly amusing at 17:18 when Tom forgot how grids work and didn't realise the correct tile was a row further away.
Minesweeper is full of 50/50(or worse) choices so pretty accurate description. I think you're meant to keep the bombs for those 50/50s so you don't loose a life. Looks like you're playing Isaac map making game. hehe
Man, its the minesweeper, idk if you ever got into it well, but you just sometimes reach a point where no brains will help you (for example first move) and you just have to flip a coin. Its the "charm" of it, the major stress factor ;)
If I remember my minesweeper correctly (it has been quite a few years), I believe that the spaces along the ordinal directions (NE, SE, SW, NW) may count as adjacent rooms. That may be what was giving you trouble deciding between one space vice another when determining the location of say a hermit's room.
Minesweeper dungeons!? This is my jam. Thanks! Well played.
when there are two rooms that are the same number of squares away, the correct choice seems to be the one that is furthest away in a straight line. eg 17:14 the second one Tom clicks is further away from the escape in a straight line even though its the same number of squares
Definitely supposed to use the bombs etc. more strategically than throwing them at random. Because it seems inevitable that not all valid squares will be rooms
17:42 that wasn't a guest room because the room above was a secret room.
This looks so cool
would love to see the return of superchill with this as the background
Fun puzzle concept!
Wow this is great
It feels like the furthest room may take distance into account, because it's always further physically than the other option
This game looks hard but I'd like to see more of it!
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 1651
I do love me a puzzle game, and what a fantastic one at that :D, a super cool interpretation of the classic Minesweeper, and some really tricky levels
I do super love the addition of the classic X/Marks, although I do wish you could change the colour of them to show which of the Rooms it corresponds with
Fully of many happy accidents here XD
Well, fantastic to hear Tom had a great time playing, as we had a great time watching, would love to see more :D
Isaac secret room bootcamp
Anyone else sleep to his videos?
Cute game, but I do feel like it is very shamelessly being "inspired" by my boy Isaac
I don't think this game follows it's own rules well enough. Like at 5:30, shouldn't the second hermit room be above the first one? It's further away.
Binding of isaac minus the isaac
Yeah... Ever want to play the binding of Isaac without all that pesky gameplay? Then this is for you!
id say this game creator just stole the rooms from binding of isaac and couldnt even reskin the map, ?'s, angel/devil rooms. sorry love Tom and binding of isaac but this might be copyright infringement if it ever goes for sale
It's Minesweeper, but boring.
… I do not understand the point of this game.
Like, I get the rules… but why?
