@@ricksimpsonisstill I Agree..Shenn is fairly tough but they cannot use him now since he has been one of their best defenceman. They should have brought in Simmonds after Knies was mauled by Bennett and injured for the playoffs.

Yes! That is a problem the Leafs have had for the last couple of years. They always got to play an opponent who has manhandled them. Florida has those gritty guys who are on the edge all the time (e.g.Tkachuk, Bennett, Gudas, Lomberg). To me the Panthers have turned into prime Tampa Bay Lightning now. They play by "one for all & all for one". They are there for each other no matter what which the Leafs clearly are not.

I'd like to know where in this video there was any inconsistency in referring? Holding the stick was the proper call. The hit was already in motion and it wasn't a hit from behind when the whistle was blown. No way this could have stopped in a tenth of a second. Refs did call everything right in this video. They could have sent players to the penalty box because of the scrum.
@@anonymous134y It's about 3/4 of a second and on a delayed penalty. He shouldn't be finishing that check like he did, it's dirty for sure. Idk about penalties though.
I typically wouldn't disagree, but all platers should know not to hit a guy a full 2 seconds after the whistle. Especially in what was essentially a charge. But to your point, meanwhile a clean open ice check where someone gets the wind knocked out of them, and a player gets suspended 4 games. Stuff like this reminds me why I stopped watching hockey 15 years ago.
I’m fine with this hit being deemed acceptable as long as it’s always acceptable and not just when someone like Gudas or Trouba do it. The problem in my opinion is that the league is very quick to allow some players to make these types of dangerous plays because that’s what they do, but turn around and suspend someone else for a similar play. This league seems to operate under a “game within the game” mandate however the rules for that are pretty murky and extremely inconsistent.
Really good point but I would never want to be a ref. Having to determine how much shoulder goes into a hit and where it lands is almost impossible at these speeds. That's why we need instant replay to clarify these calls.
@@terrencecharlton7471 agree 100% There are enough people watching from the situation room this stuff can be reviewed in real time and the tech exists to relay this info to the refs immediately. “NHL Rule 42 - Charging
A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates, jumps into or charges an opponent in any manner. Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice.”
Looks to me he took at least 4 or 5 strides to build speed in a distance traveled and violently checked an opponent. Sounds like textbook charging to me.
Let’s assume that it wasn’t a late hit - how in the hell is it not a charge?

The only sensible leafs fan I’ve seen today
You're a fake leafs fan if you believe this was a good hit.
Wtf even if it wasn’t after the whistle it is obviously a charge and likely a board too.
Rule 603 "boarding" looked textbook to me, anyone who says that is not a penalty is out to lunch. I will even go one better, it should not be a minor, because there was intent to injure.
Most people don't realize you can't take six strides before hitting a player... Rule 607 | Charging
(Note) Charging is the action where a player takes more than two strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate through a body check for the purpose of punishing the opponent. This includes skating or leaving one's feet (jumping) into the opponent to deliver a check, accelerating through a check for the purpose of punishing the opponent, or skating a great distance for the purpose of delivering a check with excessive force. The onus is on the player delivering the check to avoid placing a vulnerable or defenseless opponent in danger of potential injury.
(a) A minor plus a misconduct or a major plus a game misconduct penalty shall be assessed for charging an opponent.
(b) A major penalty plus game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player who recklessly endangers an opponent as a result of charging.
(c) A minor plus a misconduct or a major plus a game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to a player who body checks or charges a goalkeeper while the goalkeeper is within his goal crease or privileged area.
(d) A goalkeeper is NOT “fair game” because he is outside his privileged area. A penalty for interference or charging should be called in every case where an opposing player makes unnecessary contact with a goalkeeper. Likewise, Referees should be alert to penalize goalkeepers for any infractions they commit in the vicinity of the goal.
(Note 1) For the purpose of this rule, any accidental or unavoidable contact that occurs with the goalkeeper shall be penalized under the Interference rule. Any deliberate body contact or check that is delivered to the goalkeeper shall be penalized as Charging.
(Note 2) The goalkeeper’s “Privileged Area” is an area outlined by connecting the end zone face-off spots with an imaginary line and imaginary lines from each face-off spot running perpendicular to the end boards.
(e) A match penalty for reckless endangerment may also be assessed for charging.
BOARDING
A boarding penalty will be assessed to any Player who checks or pushes an unsuspecting opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously.
The severity of the penalty will be based upon the degree of violence of the player’s impact with the boards. There is a considerable amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the Referees. The duty is on the Player applying the check to ensure their opponent is not in a defenseless position and if so, they must avoid or minimize contact. However, in determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put themselves in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the check or whether the check was unavoidable may be considered.
Any unnecessary contact with a Player playing the puck on an obvious “icing” or “off-side” play which results in that Player hitting or impacting the boards is “boarding” and must be penalized as such. In other instances where there is no contact with the boards, it should be treated as “charging.”
A Minor penalty will be assessed to any player who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or dangerously.
At the discretion of the Referee, based on the degree of violence of the impact, the Referee may assess a Major penalty and Game Misconduct penalty for boarding.
If a player is injured, as the result of a boarding infraction that would otherwise call for a Minor penalty, a Major penalty and Game Misconduct penalty must be assessed.
A Match penalty will be assessed to any player who deliberately attempts to or deliberately injures an opponent by boarding.
No Misconduct penalty may be assessed for boarding.
A Game Misconduct penalty must be assessed any time a Major penalty is assessed for boarding, as detailed under Rule 7.2 (b).
Come on Leafs! Fight Back!
Most of the fans are doing it exactly that in their own way. Whining and saying the league don't know their own rules.
