- I’m really starting to plan and get ready for launch, there’s still so much to do. Utilities is the next load of stuff to tackle, starting with water.

I love the way you lay out the plumbing physically to see what you need and how it’s going to work. That’s exactly the kind of thing I do when I’m trying to figure something out and it really helps.
2 center ropes one each side.cook on top of the wood burner like other boaters. The water pump and accumulate fit with a tray underneath as this is where the leaks come from and remember you have to be able to get at them easily they are the main thing that needs fixing on a boat regularly.
Do my eyes deceive me?
Is that not the smallest water tank on the cut? : o)
Right , that's me up to date, binge watched . Really enjoying your vlog James.
Hi James
I love this blog. Today for a moment I felt I was watching a Monty Python skit. “ there’s three main things ... water, gas , electrics; oh the engine, that’s four and the hole in the back ...” 🤣🤣
....but seriously, what HAVE the Romans ever done for us ???
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Aqueducts? A.K.A. Downhill canals. ;o)
The water delivery system would be better laid out to be drainable. With some kind of petcock at the low points. Without a gravity drainable layout the lines need blown out to remove water for below freezing storage of boat.
Don't forget to put an insert in the end of each pipe, before you connect to the joints, otherwise you may have a leak.
If I was doing mine again I'd use copper with compression joints - that plastic stuff sucks! Make sure every joint has the superseal things in (which if you are in any doubt you have to undo the joint to check) and also that the pipe really is pushed home on all joints - I've seen what looked like ok joints just pop out under pressure cos they weren't in all the way (you can mark with a pen on the pipe first). Keep going James you'll be in by xmas!!!
That’s good advice, cheers. I’m going to stick with speed fit but will certainly check it all a million times 👍🏼
Looking great James jg speed fit is the best use the inserts and you will have no worries or leeks , sorry to be a pain but don't forget bsc and insurance best wishes and stay safe mate 👍
Had to laugh when you said “only tightened down a washer”. It looks like fitting out a narrow boat is a lot like fitting out a submarine. Crack on
Good stuff James, can't believe the speed of your progress. I was watching another boat tuber this week talking about wifi on the boat. For that he needed an external antenna, as does the TV. So if youre planning on those, dont forget to leave a couple of holes in roof or sides somewhere for the 2 coax cables if you need them. Prob good to think about that at the same time as the electrics.
I too saw David put in his WiFi. I’m on top of that and will sort next week when I do the solar
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt haha, me too, love listening to David's rants :)

good luck mate, I hate doing the plumbing part :)
Speedfit is the McCoy James. Good choice. Used it for several years in a previous life as a kitchen / bathroom fitter. The other good thing with the JD system is that it is not compromised if uncoupling / coupling a few times, where as some other brands are not known to be as good for this.
The Speedfit stop ends are a wonderful addition to every bodger's emergency tool kit.
Oooh looking forward to lunch day.
Excelent vids mate, shows the diyer it can be done with a few tools and a brain... One thing though do say where you buy your materials unless you buy everything from screwfix, haha...
Pretty much everything is either Screwfix or a local timber yard. The boaty stuff is from Midland Swindlers.....ahem, sorry Chandlers
Also James
Fit a valve nearest to the lowest point so you can drain the tank to clean out
Is that a good idea on a boat?
@@gurthuk cleaning out the potable water tank? Sure, that’s a good idea anywhere. If it leaks from there into the bilge, it won’t sink the boat any more than when it’s in the tank.
In like Flynn.
Bloody hell James, slow down a bit! I've got a care package sat here, which should have been collected by (spit) Hermes today. Needless to say, they didn't turn up... By the time it gets to Leicestershire, you'll be halfway to London. :o(
That’s so kind of you.....needless to say, I’ll be here. I may be on the cut hopefully, but still here at NKW 👍🏼
Just wondering how much did you pay for your ‘sail away’ all those weeks ago?
Its a "Bow Hatch".
Yes. Try that.
It will soon be Christmas the time when miracles happen, best of luck with your plans. Have you considered moving your boat to London by road transport?
Yes but a few reasons why not. Putting it on hard standing in London doesn’t really make much difference. It just needs to be on the water and moving. I’d rather it be in Leicester on the canal than London on land ! Plus I really want the feeling of leaving here on boat and doing the 8 day journey
RE: Don't know what to call it - window seat?
I can't really see from the angle, but it looks like you're mounting the pump higher than the bottom of the tank. All the installs I've seen mount the pump at the level of the bottom of the tank or lower, so gravity feeds the pump from the tank.
Is anybody else concerned about how small the new water tank is? It only looks like a couple of hundred litres, if that. I know from my caravan and other narrowboaters that won't last more than a few days.
👍👌🇨🇦❤,
Won't you need an elbow joint for the hot water?
Yes, hot water is just elbowed to bathroom
