    This video is about an instrument "kudamuzha" , this instrument has been used in tamilnadu in all temples and has been played by people in temple , nowadays this type of our tamil culture instruments has been reduced and not well know by many people . More than mridangam and tabla these were the instruments used to be played and learned by everyone but as it is tough to play , in this generation kudamuzha and other types of old instruments has been forgotten by people . URU team has initiated yazh and kudamuzha to be as a start and this team is been trying to find more of old instruments to bring back again in our generation and culture .     Today I have gone thro the article about your yazh and kudamuzhavu. In times of india.
    I am retired deputy director from leather inst. Chennai and had my second ph d. In early 90s on leather based drums on scientific methods complete analysis on tamil literature and gave many lectures in europe and asian countries on my research on drums especially on ethnomusicological musicalogical evolution of these drums and a relationships on leather structure, shapee of the resonator and material and wood relationships.. More research on tiruvarur kudamuzha and muthulajshm of kerala in early 1980s. Many points what you have raised in the interview are away from basic . I would like to meet you in person and share my excitment on this drum since early 1980s.

    Please don't mistake me, if I am correct ex-CM of TN Mr. M. Karunanidhi's father used to play this kudamuzha (panchamuga vathiyam) in a temple in Thiruvaroor

      No sir they are playing paari nayanam in thiruvarur temple,this is playing by paara saivar

      In tiruvarur and thiruthuraipoondi kudamuzha only a special ancetiral family parasaivas only play. The playing pattet is very much connected with siva aganaa and yoga. In early 80s efforts are taken to teach the kudamuzha with sangeeth natarajan academy stipend from tiruvarur muttukarar who are only traditional players.. But not successful to the level what we wanted.
