  • In this video, I am dividing my 3 year old ever-bearing strawberry plant to get more strawberry plants. I have discussed how to divide strawberry plant clump to propagate strawberry plants easily. I have divided my strawberry plant into 10+ small strawberry plants and planted them in my raised bed.

    Thanks, everyone always talks about the runners, but I noticed my plant clumping and wondered if I could safely divide them.

      Yes you can. It is very easy and the plant is already established with roots.

    This was very detailed and informative. I was able to see exactly what to look for when I try to separate the strawberry plants I just bought. I may wait a while to see if they make runners or separate plants. Thank you so much!

      Strawberry plants are very resilient. However, It is better to divide the plant and keep the baby plants well watered and fed until established. My plants are doing well. Please follow the link to see their progress in my recent garden tour video 👇

    thank you! I was looking for how to divide at the crowns but nobody seems to shows how to do that.
    My strawberry plants had 3-4 crowns and they all grew into adult plants but I wasn't sure if I should divide them. I've already clipped some runners off to save.

    • @GardeningWise
      @GardeningWise  Před rokem +1

      Yes I also wonder why this is not a common practice. People normall divide perrenials when they form clumps. So the same thing can be done with strawberry plants.

    @ukbakedpotato7647 Před 10 měsíci

    Thank you for the video. It is very useful. My strawberry plants in planters, which I sterted to grow last year, are becoming crowded. So I am thinking of dividing the plants. When is the best month to devide strawberry plants? Some article says it' s done in spring. Is it too late to devide my plants in early September ? I think there is still enough time to grow the root after the division until winter.

    • @GardeningWise
      @GardeningWise  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You can still divide them. I divided mine in late summer/Autumn too. It's just spring and autumn weather is not too hot and plants can get established. Just water thoroughly if you live somewhere dry.

    Wondering if they are alpine strawberries, they don't have runners.

    • @GardeningWise
      @GardeningWise  Před 2 měsíci

      May be. But the plants which I divided started producing runners. So it may be just the mother plant that was a hybrid.

  • @ManojavP

    How do you know which plant is old and which is new? After 3 years do you just throw away the old plants?

    • @GardeningWise
      @GardeningWise  Před 2 lety

      Yes after 3 years you can either divide the clump to get many baby plants or compost it as the yeild will not be good. Yeild is high in 2nd and 3rd year. We can label the plants to keep track of how old it is if growing in a container or mark a specific area in the garden for year 1, 2 and 3 plants separately. You can also propagate strawberry plants using the runners along the way so you will never get short of strawberry plants.

    • @alicenakajima6014
