I should have seen this coming. Ford is just finally following the footsteps of the European racing cars (i.e. Mercedes-Benz AMG, Porsche, etc.) that have client vehicles taken straight from the race track versions. Don't know what the market is here in the US for the Mustang but I'm sure racing enthusiasts will want in on the action, even at the ridiculous price tag
