Yamato - The Art Of Carry

- In my last Yamato commentary I mostly focused on how the ship didn't need any buffs, but in this one I instead focus more on how to use the strengths of the ship to carry your team, while making your best to avoid its weaknesses. You can find my recommended build at the end as usual.
- Hry
"I consider this a good result in a battleship"...
I really wonder there: What do you consider a GREAT result??
"The Montana is helpless as a kitten" lol
Perhaps your most informative video ever. The demonstrations of how to shoot at a Yamato, how to protect the citadel when facing different T10 BBs, and especially the armor analysis at the end were fantastic.
The ability to hit a Khabarovsk at 21 km is just plain frightening. Please stop showing BBs that they should focus DDs ;)
Yeah, when I first got my Yamato, I had other more experienced Tier X BB players drill that lesson into me. It was real bad early on for me.
"I got Yamato! I am the ultimate badass!"
DELETED
look at the secondary turret at 3:13, turned faster than minotaur turret lol.
I had to do a double take to make sure I saw the right username. Nice to see a genuine gamer like Maxishine plays warships. Your videos back in the day of 8800 ultras got me hooked into extreme pc building. Hope all is well mate. o7
Maxishine mogami needs that rotation
Gotta check the real channel name. That's not the channel you're thinking of.
The Australian maxishine ? nope, thats deffinetaly not me. Im not the cheaty bastard that he was.
And they say Yamato has slow turret traverse :P
Things I have learned from this video:
-The Yamato is a sniper, not a brawler.
-Secondaries have aimbots, not targeting computers.
-NEVER GO FULL BROADSIDE IN YAMATO
-Flamu in Yamato = RUN
-LOLPEN is a thing
-Hitting a Khabarovsk from _21 km_ is an ability no mortal should ever have
That shot at the end
yeah :D 360 noscopeing a chaba at ~21km XD
TheGigisim Flamu is OP plz nerf
The art of grinding it for half a year only to be burnt alive by T8 cruisers the moment you spawn.
Let's spit it out. *Kutuzovs*
Chris Fokjohn go concealment my dude. Then it won't be a problem if you don't fire at your spawn. I run secondary/concealment build with mine.
before i use stealth build, i got 1 win over 8 games, after stealth build, 1 lose over 8 games.
Half a year? I got it in 7 days
@@marcusess what?
1:33 - 1:50 pay attention to the damage counter on the top right of the screen.
Flamu - "The Yamato is not a good solo ship"
WG - "Well time to buff the Yamato and make the CV's pay dearly again"
Small Tea Cup of a Million Dollars evry bb in this game is bad alone , as in reality a bb alone is a prety dead target if there is dds and cruisers near him , thats the major problem of bbs and if wg remove it their game will die
Well, tell that to the USS Washington. She dove right into a formation of enemy destroyers, light cruisers, and a battleship, and enacted real life torpedo beats, devastating strike on the Kirishima, and lol'd her way back out without taking a hit. At night.
This video is a much more accurate representation of the Yamato compared to the last.
I hope your back recovers from all this carry Flamu!
This was one of your best videos, a lot of good tatical examples there.
Very good! Keep on this kind of informative tutorials for specific ships. I dont have the Yamato, but I am interested in infos about for example the Amagi. Thanks a lot!
"310k dmg in a T10 BB I consider good" gg
StorozhevoiGnevni
I would be Happy like an Child at Christmas when I would get so much Damage .___.
Mmm most I have ever done was 290k
Meanwhile, after not having played her for a while, I'm happy if I get 31k... seriously, I'm having less trouble getting >100k damage in a Kongo than in my Yamato. This thing is insanely hard to play.
i did 250k, with a kamikaze
"It only has 9 guns"
Laughing my ass of in my Gneissenau right now
9 guns but each shell weighs more than a truck....
Well for the tier gneissenau makes sense to have 8. T10 is almost all 4x3.
@@Gongolongo but Gneisenau only has 6...
Thanks Flamu. I've been struggling to get the yamato to consistently perform, hopefully this helps. Please, do more guides like this. Perhaps even the tools will eventually learn to watch. Speaking as someone trying to get better, I'd welcome any hints and tips.
Subscribed!! Very good video and I enjoy your Yamato lesson! Very helpful and I feel like Yamato has been very tricky though to learn as with my other bbs I can learn them faster but Yamato has takin much time for me to operate but she is a good bb
Great round! Good vid!
The Yamato's shell are "pretty heavy". That's an understatement. From what I've read about the ship, the shells weighed around ~3000 lbs each. I think that's about what my car weighs. The Yamato literally fires the mass equivalent to three four-door sedans from each of its turrets every time it fires its guns.
1460kg type 91/ type 1 AP shells, and 1360kg HE and 1360kg Type 3 AA shells. These things are huge. Only Royal Navy 18inch guns ever fired a heavier shell.
A heavier shell :P 7.1 tons AP, 4.8 tons HE en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwerer_Gustav
Great video!
Can you do a video like this for the Midway who if you have it?
Skillful player! Nice play & video.
nice lesson. coud you do a in-depth minimap guide?
Actually I think there's a way to lower the chance of being citadeled in a 1 vs 1 Yamato fight.
In that kind of fights, I usually first show a bit of the gigantic citadel (mentioned by Flamu) towards him on purpose for attracting his aim and as soon as he fires I will immediately "turn inwards" to narrow the angle between my ship and the incoming shells. If the angle is small enough, some of his shells will very likely bounce off the bow.
I've tried doing this quite a lot of times and seems most of the times it works. Can anyone tell me whether or not t
his is correct? (Feel free to point it out If I'm wrong)
That would work as you bait him to fire at the part of your belt which doesn't have the citadel problem shown. The angling allows you to further bounce the shell. Before the Montana's citadel was lowered, this was the way to bounce yamato's shells.
Wong Dirk It can work, but it's unreliable. You run the risk of overturning during the beginning or end of the maneuver. It would be more effective to juke the salvo with throttle control. If you are being fired at while reversing, stop or go forward. If under fire while sailing forward, throttle control with a less drastic turn maneuver will be effective
Good lord, this video. Flamu cracks me up with these crazy carries.
Oh come now Flamu. 309k damage is the best you have done in a surface ship during the course of over 8000 battles (carriers have scored above that at least twice even with less than 1/10th the battles, but that is perhaps to be expected).
I would say that qualifies to more than just "good".
big problem is enemy kurkfust and f grobe.. you cannot pen their nose its all bounces.. i forgot about tirpitz and bismarck tho but they are also very dangerous when rushing you
Just got the amagi yesterday! Is nice to see that I'm in the right path. Hope the Izumo doesn't suck
The Izumo does suck. It's like a brick to maneuver. You will be spotted and on fire the entire game. It's turrets are awkward. It's the worst T9 BB, and I don't think it's close. It's really not fun to play at all. Especially after the playing the Amagi, which is a blast to play.
The camo that you have on your Yamato makes it look scary red and black imagine if the red was brighter
15:00 jeeeesus... DAT ANGLE...
Haven't touched the Montana in your vids since the patch. Any chance of you putting out a vid going over it since the Citadel buff anytime soon?
I was able to citadel Yamato in that weak spot on my NC, it's actualy kinda easy with precision guns.
The Carry King.
What is the counter when Yamato is fighting nose in to Montana?

Yamato Lives Matter
At least on NA server, the interesting thing is how passive high, high tier can be (IX-X heavy matches). It's fine having a brawl heavy ship like GK but when the match is passive it's frustrating to get into the parameters where she excels at. 11.6km secondaries, turtlebacks, 460/420 guns are nice on GK but if you can't get into the brawls, esp. if secondary spec, then it doesn't matter too much.
Yamato OTOH, 460mm guns are always viable at any range.
time for another 10 BBs vs 10 BBs, when the RN BBs come out, and also test the lowered cit of Montana
Love your plays man!
WoWs BB
the art of being burn.... everything hit is fire.
If any of the tier 10 battleships can perform best in a specific situation... the next question would be which battleship is the best at creating, bringing about their preferred situation?
Uchuu senkan Yamatoooooo
What do you think of Secondary Focused Yamato, Flamu? Manual Secondary and Secondary Upgrades, etc.
These were viable, before the germans came along
I have usually horrible dispersion and accuracy on the guns, any tips? Aim is usually "perfect" but shells seem to fly all over the place like on t4 BB.
1:41 Replay bug or not? One shell hits, damage spins a bit and then remains the same. I've not noticed this in game play before but am not usually focused on the damage counter.
just a question to the comments if you were to give battleships main-battery AA shells how would you do it. ( just theroy right now the poor carriers have it hard enough as it is.)
me
reload and switch time of shells same as other ammo
you target a squadron and the guns aim like its a ship (in other words your guns must be pointing at the planes)
if the planes get within a minimum distance (me thinks about..say 8 km for tier 5) they cannot fire.
remember this is just an idea some random WOWS player has put on the internet.
My yamato does not have the dispersion that is seen in this video, it's not even close.
I wish i had this type dispersion:
3:54
5:36
6:16
14:15
fun fact: Yamato is the first ship WG modelled prolly they really love this ship
i love the yamato. each shell weighs more than a truck, and it fires 9 of them every 30 seconds
Flamu you still haven't mentioned why you choose Vigilance over Basics of Survivability. Since you're using DameCon mod. 1 and mod. 2 already, the improvements stack really well, wouldn't you agree?
I prefer Basics of Survivability. The Yam has great torpedo protection and I'm not pushing in that close.
How the hell did you get so many Flags?! And special flags as well, holy crap!!
Wargaming needs to add the 25mm AA on her B and C turrets, the twin barrel AA guns on her bridge tower, and the single barrel AA guns at her bow and aft of her C turret, like she actually had in real life.
They should also offer a 1942 hull with the 2 extra wing-mounted 6 inch turrets as an option. I don't get why they haven't done this already...
oh its the hello hello guy again
Hey Flamu did you know they buffed the German BB Secondary range ? It took me a while to even realize that
yeah they nerfed the dmg and on the small guns the fire chance but buffed the range to 7.5km base, mine has now 11.3km secondary range :)
I think that fat Freddy went afk or disconnect
FLAMU, can a Montana or Kurfurst hit that weak spot on the Yamato?
danforz you mean artwarthship? No. Tried with GK 6 bounce.
Airlos witness against monty shooting his yammy s same spot bounced 12 of them.
the yama are the only battleship who can overmatched other battleship
Depends on how much angle is shown. Sometimes yamatos show more than the autobounce angle, and montanas, and iowas especially have a tendency to punch through with the superheavy shells. Done it in Missouri and eaten in a yamato. But it isnt anywhere near as reliable as you can do with a yamato.
Now 17:18 they will say that Khaba needs a buff.
"No cruiser wants to be close to a Yamato." Truth. My experience in Hindenburg is that I can bounce a bit, dodge a bit when it comes to GK and Monty...but, "Yamato doesn't give a shit." If the 460s hit, they pen, and with their accuracy and velocity, you're as good as dead inside 12km or so. If you're lucky, you survive the first volley or the Captain biffs the shot.
You can still delete a montana even after the citadel change
How do I get rid of that damn horizontal line in the crosshair? been meaning to do this for ages, since it irritates me and tempts me to not correct the height of my shot properly! I've asked this on many forums and people said: why would you not want it?? you're stupid!
ya well Flamu doesn't use one and I want it gone as well cause I know it doesn't help me (been playing the game for years, I really don't need it..) and it irritates me and tempts me to rely on it, which you never should -.-
I know this is three months late, but replays do not translate your crossair choices over.
I think yamato is a good brawler! mostly cause u can delete all cruisers easily. DDs may be a trouble of course, so I dont rush when I dont know were they are. btw I cant compare him to Kurfust, but Kurfusts like to overestimate their own broad-protection, and they can be punished for that. montana, lol its exaclty what Flamu said IT CANT BRAWL YAMATO PROPERLY.
But the biggest issue about brawling may be the enemy Yamatos. but thats a good think in not being tanky when u pass through the side of a BB very NEARLY it cant shoot the citadel. But they mostly will try. I dont know why but be tank in Yamato doesnt work well for me. I ALWAYS get 15 torpedos coming from the sides.
As usual a very concise educational video, you need to stop educating the potatoes
I don't think i have seen that many disabled main turrets since playing an Atlanta back in beta. Very unlucky.
main guns never gets broken... 3x got broken in the carry game (i know, sometimes it happens ;))
mod wot not broken down. Just incapped.
hi i am new player and new subscriber you have been recommanded for me in forums to learn the game , pls explain in next videos what is " sigma " and what is " radar cruisers "
Sigma - vertical dispersion of shells. Radar cruiser - cruiser with radar. T8-10 USN and Soviet cruiser, and 2 premium cruisers - Belfast and Indianapolis.
Algeria power welcome to the game buddy, Flamu is in my opinion the best teacher for the game, in depth, clear and precise. Love his videos!
thanks i watched arround 15 of his videos untill now and i learned alot , he is realy doing great job .
Sigma is not the vertical dispersion of shells - that's a seperate hidden stat. Sigma is a hidden stat that determines the probability of shells landing near the centre of the dispersion ellipse, which is made up of horizontal dispersion (the stat you see in game) and vertical dispersion. The higher the sigma, the better the shell groupings are. Iirc, all destroyers and cruisers have a sigma of 2.0-2.05 and battleships can vary between 1.5 and 2.0, with Yamato having the highest at 2.1.
and atlanta has radar
Nice game flamu... Can you do a new grozevoi commentary with the lower detection?
12:07 how the fuck did Flamu get his gun disabled, this 650 mm of armour (not counting the slope) is the hardest chunk of steel you can face in the entire game
Guns can be disabled when being shot through the barbette (which is only 560mm).
WG: Let's take the Yamatoaccuracy and put this on a ship with 12 guns.
BBies: Nice, we don't must get any more close at all know. Give us the Conqueror at the current state.
I (and hopefully most players who aren't idiots): Are you now completly crazy?
22000 xp and 663000 credits lmao while I'm at tier 7 gaining nothing
@4:06 all those shatters and overpens 🤦🏽♂️
Now and days you only have to worry about the kurfurst when your broiling you can actually destroy Montana when it's close range to you bigger guns and a whole bunch of secondaries kurfurst a whole nother different story
#bufftheyamato
You mean it does not need any *buffs*
Holy shit ur smart
I still manage to get burned down with 50k damage ffs. Maybe I need buffs lel.
MelancholicThug go back to tier 6.. 50 k dmg in a tier 10 BB are unwatchable
I do go back to T6! Love Dunkerke, Warspite, Farragut... But yeah, I'm thinking on selling Yammy and buying back Amagi. It's just not for me.
Maybe you are over extending. And giving arson ships whitherer chance.
yaaaaaaaa maaaaaaaaaaa tooooooooooooo
Pls buff yamato
Er, Flamu, your main turrets got broken several times throughout that match. Why would you say that they never get broken?
Heeloo Helloooouuu :D
turttle back was really shitty at long range engagement which isn't reflected in that game
yeah i know it's frustrating because german ships should be easy to citadel at 75%-100% of max range and effectively get deleted if they don't press in early
i hate how people think turtleback was superior engineering when it's WWI technology that allow any "lucky" long range shot to hit vital part of the ship not to mention it was often combine with a first deck that didn't activated AP bombs from planes.
it's not the problem of close range, they are supposed to be good close range, they were built for it, but their armor pattern shouldn't be any good over 17-18km since in long range engagement most shell would fall with angle closer to 90° on turttleback than on flat deck. but yet again with compressed distance and the not adapted ballistic this is a bullshit cookie cutter armor pattern in game
it would hit the 25mm upper belt ^^ or the 50 mm deck at long range easy penetration
People who want this buffed are clearly idiots, lol. I suspect they got used to how god-tier it was vs USN BBs, and can't cope with the idea it's not quite easy mode anymore given the introduction of the GK and changes to Montana.
Frontal citadel profile reminds me of the 'pike nose' of the IS-7, and same principles apply. Constantly move to alter the angle presented, and sometimes rely on a broader profile to use the magic side armour.
Yeah people better fucking carry if they're in Yamatos
Luckily I'm only an average player and I do not hit a Khabarovsk at 20Km, otherwise I would be bored with the game.
"309k damage is PRETTY GOOD for a tier X battleship" pretty good??? :D
FPS going from 124 to 66 to 1 to 124.. This game lol
and 142 :P
Needs or buffs. Pretty sure the thumbnail of last Yamato vid is doesn't need buffs.
Why can't Yamato blap other bbs if it has the biggest guns shouldn't that be more damage
78 hits and 310k dmg... nice aim, close to no overpens/shattets/bounces
To be fair though, that Khaba was pretty goddamn bad at dodging =\
oof the way he said "linear" at 6:16
oh tell me, how good is your swedish?
10:42...no u should have gone fill speed ahead turn left a bit then right so u push his back to the Yamato so his side isn't exposed and he can u turn fastrr
Very informative as usual, Flamu, but I think you might need to take a break and get some more sleep, or switch to a stronger blend of coffee, because there were a number of slip ups in your commentary which, at points, were confusing but once I figured out what you meant, were just amusing. You might want to consider taking a weekend off (or go visit a coffee store).
Dispersion 'tight' on a Yamato? You obviously arent playing the same Yamato that i am...
Yamato needs a citadel lower!
flamu drink some more coffee, many commentary errors here !
Yamato doesn't ggive a fuck about angling???
Until the day the French and Italian Battleships come with bows with more that 32mm lololol
6:10 linearly senpai ? linear? new meme ?
Edit: well I take that back... in over 400 uses of the word linear there are only 5 which really add -ly at the end
I stand corrected senpai
so "carry" is the new clickbait?
I find yamato realy balenced , its verry fragil so she cant brawl enmy bbs but if we dont focus her its a verry dengerous target , wg should never touch it
Ahmed Sissani Thats the thing, its fragile. It was the pinnacle of all BBs ever made. Its armor was designed and made to be invulnerable to aanything ahort of its own guns. Why do you think the USN sunk it with bombs and torps? Cause Iowas guns would do minimal damage.
the post war test were pretty bullshit propaganda
yamato had a quite good immunity zone against 16" and additionnally she add really good intenal compartimentation (like nagato that took a week to sink after atomic test) which gave her clear superiority over german battleship that all had a flawed torp protect design
.also range finders were pretty good and the artillery crew competent which is arguably better than the half assed radar guided guns the iowa had at this point(half assed is the important word here), damage control iowa is obviously better.
the later iowa gun control system (during the 50s if i remember correctly) were far superior but that's no WW2 tech (pretty much like most russian ships that aren't papership)
So in short, Yamato does need an armor buff, to make ot more balanced in a 10-15km brawl. It was built to dominate the seas and wouldve had the us not used 400 planes to completely overwhelm Yamatos extremely good AA.
thanks johnathan for clarifying the point's i am to lazy to write essays like this
the "bullshit propaganda" part comes from the fact that some people used it to say iowa would easily penetrate yamato on war condition
Japanese AA was distinctly underwhelming overall, regardless of sheer mass of fire. They just didn't have good AA fire control or guns. Their 25mm AA, for example, had terrible traverse speed, rate of fire, and was inferior to the US 1.1 inch gun. The same 1.1 inch gun that was declared obsolete and replaced by either more 20mm Oerlikons or 40mm Bofors mounts.
flamu should go play WOT instead of this stupid tanks on water game.
