Coming from an affluent family, the rule is, any bags or clothing that have designer logos on them, is a no-no. We are not billboards for a designer.
So what brands do you purchase ? If I may ask, your comment is very interesting and I'm curious
pixie 01 - I purchase bags that are handmade if possible. Interesting and one of a kind if you have it in your budget. I have traveled all over the world and to pick up unique things, bags, jewelry and clothing. If you don’t have the money to travel, look to craftsmen in your own area for clothing, leather goods, etc.
I have been asked about bags that I got from from local craftsmen, Wow! which house did you get that from?
Also, you can buy off the rack but have it tailored to you.
In the US off the rack is considered the end of it. In Europe where I lived for many years, it is the jumping off point.
also, because I had to have a dress to wear to galas, and nothing fit properly, I went to a fashion designer and we designed a lovely black velvet gown with interchangeable sleeves.
it cost less than the price or tailoring than a Caroline Herrara did. An ill fitting gown from Herrera or Stella McCartney, Donna Karan or Ralph Lauren. Also, my every day clothes, if I bought them at an outlet, or at clearance takes on a new life if you get them tailored. I have no problem spending $40 dollars on a $15 dollar pair of pants or shirt or jacket as long as it fits my body perfectly.
I am from working class and would not wear one for that reason too

Based on reading the book, “The Millionaire Next Door.” Wealthy women don’t wear a bunch of designer clothes or bags. They actually live quite frugally and put their money into education and travel. Interesting book.

No, the fakes are tacky. Individuals may be tacky but it doesn't take away from a well-made authentic bag. There are so many things that this social media commentator gets wrong that unpicking it is ridiculous. Also the idea that you have to throw things out is very frowned upon. You utilise and alter and adapt. Or donate.
An elegant woman would not dream of choosing a sloppy bag.

Coach bags hold up and the pockets and linings are always thoughtful about what women need, not like too many higher end that seem to think we hardly need space and just should carry their heavy purse around for show only

So sorry she doesn’t like Coach. I’ve always believed Coach to have some classic styles. While I get that some of their styles are a bit trendy as of late 20 years, Coach has some excellent purses and bags I will never let go.
I own 3 bags total and all of them are Coach, I absolutely adore all of them and I think they are classy in their own way. Plus, they have lasted me soooo long

As an ordinary lady who lives in one of the top five most expensive zip codes in the US, I can politely tell you that high society women don’t wear your style of dress; they wear Patagonia, Lululemon, Loro Piana cashmere, and Brunello Cucinelli nude, many 40+ women love luxury hobos dresses tunics and dress in vacation vibes. And many of the old money second generations were not even that brand-focused. They love art and Anthropologie. Stores like Hermes and Chanel are filled by the newly wealthy upper-middle class.
I also think wealthy Americans are more casual than wealthy people outside of the states….which I appreciate.

Being classy and elegant is natural. Whether you have one an entire logo Gucci outfit or a tea dress and top hat like a royal. Look at Paris Hilton. She is old money and when you look at her she wears a lot of brands and just looks like old money no matter what she wears.

I have a Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM in DE and own several LV bags in classic monogram canvas and I love it them all! I have 8 to be exact. I know LV looks tacky for some but LV is my jam. I am a plain Jane and I love LV! 💛🤗 I don’t need to look affluent because I am not. I just work hard for the things I want.

I just bought a Louis Vuitton speedy 30 as my first luxury bag - in the classic monogram print. I chose this bag because I have dreamed about having one ever since I was 12... specifically the speedy in this print. I fell in love with it and still at 25 I love it. It makes me happy when I see it and I can't believe I am able to own one now.

It is a very nice casual bag. What Anna is poorly trying to convey is that some bags are not elegant. This has nothing to do with the brand but rather a style. Some are causal day bags, some are evening bags, some are special event bags, some are shopping bags etc. Your bag is absolutely fabulous for what it is, and I hope you wear it for many years to come.

Ultimatum Certain styles yes not the entire brand as a whole......I never said anything about the bags being exclusive .... simply giving advice about classy looking bag brands . I see an over saturation of Hermes Birkins everywhere ...... doesn’t make the bag any less classy. It’s not just about the brand but the style of bag you choose . Class is learned extremely early on in life,it is developed with a good education. Class has nothing to do with glitz and glamour.
I think you maybe missing the point of what she's trying to say. She is trying to prepare us for socializing within that circle. If that is something you want to do. They will judge you based on the items you own, unless you can handle being different she's just showing you how to fit in.
It really is all about how you carry yourself and what comes out of you mouth when speaking to someone for the first time.
For years I shopped at a consignment store that carried many high end items. No one where I worked knew this.
I was not affluent... rather resourceful out of necessity.
I would get many compliments on what I was wearing and the handbags or shoes I had on. I never had a problem letting people know where I shopped, it's just that no one bothered to question it as they just made an assumption by the way I presented myself and acted.
Wasn't snobby or put on airs, but I did remember to have manners and mindful of how I spoke to and treated those around me.
To me it doesn't matter what designer bag or clothes you are wearing or not wearing. The majority of people are focused on your face and your speaking voice when first meeting you. You the individual make the clothes, not the other way around. I have met so called "classy" people who were wearing clothing and accessories that were in the thousands of dollars, but were rude and inconsiderate.
At first glance they looked sophisticated and elegant, but after being in their company for 5 minutes I was ready to be miles away from them.
I've noticed recently that fashion brands that were usually associated with classy timeless fashion items are now catering for the more trendy audience!

I have no problem with this person expressing her opinion, however calling people "basic" or saying that having one of these bags means you do not know "elegance" is both off putting and is tasteless. Most people confuse class with snobbery, again she is free to have an opinion and offer that opinion but she does come across unprepossessing by utilizing certain words to describe people.

I appreciate advice Anna! Coming from the US and not at all from wealth, it's easy to get caught up on thinking these fashion items are what I want to follow but I'm a classic elegant (took your test a long time ago when it first came out) and I don't want to waste money being a billboard for these high fashion companies or getting cheap fakes. Grateful for the encouragement to save money and spend it more wisely and ethically. ❤️

I would say yes but also no. True beauty comes from within and is reflected out. It’s important to respect yourself and represent yourself from the inside out. Being elegant is not the only way to do this, but for most of the people watching this channel that is how they would like to represent themselves. :)

Chanel( The classic double flap is just perfect), Dior( the lady dior especially but they do have some other beautiful and classy designs ), Hermès(birkins and kellys) , Dolce and gabanna(especially the box bags cuz they're soooo expensive and they scream affluence, the sicily bag is simple and beautiful too.) And what makes these bags even more amazing, is that most of them hold their value if you ever wanna resell them, in fact birkins and kellys and the classic double flap in the jumbo size only increase in value so they're a great investment to make.

It is a work horse bag. I put my laptop in it and use it for work and not have to worry about the straps breaking. No regrets. It is truly functional.

For me I respect a woman who buys a high quality purse from a little known manufacturer (which requires a bit of research to find) who offers great designs at a fair price...and does not have some loud tacky logo on it.
You guys buy whatever you like, who cares if your neighbor like it or not, you are going to buy it, so you have to love it, I used to like her videos and now looks likes she judges people for way they look or the bag they use, who cares, wear what you really love and be happy, we only have one life to spend it trying to please everyone, it’s just my opinion, so many dream of a luxury handbag for years and work hard to get it, and that deserves respect, not everybody has the “economic class” that this lady has
Coach went through some dark days with the monogram canvas bags, but someone at Coach is really turning around the boat. The new leather bags look nice.

I bought a leather Coach handbag last year from Macy’s and it is holding up amazingly! I wore it the whole spring and summer and it still looks like new.

It’s an unspoken dig at others saying you can afford to dish out a specific amount of money on a bag YOU LIKE (see: it’s OK to like the bag) that others cannot afford. Unfortunately she is right: it’s gotten to the point where there are so many knockoffs that the thrill is gone. And most of the wealthy women I know would never carry one. I said forget it and bought a black leather Calvin Klein tote. You can’t even see the logo. It carries all of my junk and I’m happy. I can afford a LV tote but I didn’t think it was wise because everyone has one and it’s not unique anymore. It’s over saturated the market.
Not even a decent workbag. The straps are so thin, it hurts you if you carry a laptop in it
I use it to carry papers for work. I bring a handbag with it, usually YSL or Gucci.
The "old money" people I have met wore items from JCPenney, including Levis and flannel shirts! LOL
While I agree with a lot of the things you said, I believe there is a bag for every person/outfit. Yes, the Neverfull is very lax, but it works for a diaper bag and for going to workout or being more casual. It all depends on where you are in your life. I personally don't care what others think, and I buy things that catch my eye (and I rock them too). But yes, I do like buying bags that will never go out of style such as (some of the) Chanel bags.
Also, I just want to say that clothes/bags and money can't buy class. I've been around many wealthy/affluent people and they are just like regular people; the good, the bad and the ugly. Lol.

I've had the pleasure of being in the company of 'old money' and truly affluent people, even though I personally am nowhere close. One of the things I noticed is that if they like or believe in a product they will talk about it. If they dislike something- they will rather say nothing. They do not trash it and are very considerate of the fact that not everyone has it, and strive to not offend. In fact, they are stoically silent about the difference between rich and poor when they are with people on a different level to them. The new rich or the 'trying to appear rich', have no such qualms.
I love her videos, but she is clearly not born into affluence (as she is vocal about to be fair.)

I never spend thousands on handbags . I am not a millionaire and not ultra rich to spend on high brands . I have some Kate spade which fits my needs . They have beautiful color bags, cute shapes and I get them on sale . I really enjoy them , they are good quality and get a lot of compliments on them as well.

There is Furla which is a classic brand more affordable than the very famous designer ones (in my country at least). I just bought for myself the bag Diva in black for around 450€ as a gift. It is still very expensive but it can be a good compromise between the high street shops and the designer brands.

Mulberry’s leathers and Bayswater are amazing and classic and I have one to date that I will never part with! Another understated bags with amazing quality is Salvatore Ferragamo. At least the hammered leather style. And they make leather shoes sooo comfortable, no break-ins required.

I'm amazed that I was thinking just the same as you. All the bags/brand that you have mentioned is really what it is. But then again it's their personal choice and fashion sense. I personally do not like brands which has huge brand logo on their bags - its nice to have the curiosity to identify the brand instead.
Agree 100 percent!!! I taught my children while they were young not to fall into that category. If little girls are allowed to have designer handbags they are just a wannabee that wants to fit in. That is not indicative of style and grace. A truly elegant lady does not need a bag with a logo on the outside.

As a professional graphic designer and illustrator, I laughed out loud about the Prada logo because I TOTALLY AGREE. I always think that all Prada bags look hideous because of that logo which looked like it was a remake of the Papyrus font. I also agree with the stud bags which are def what women wear to a club, not to a 5-star hotel or restaurant. Elegance, in the context of this video, is an visual/aesthetic THEME, guys, so for someone like me working as a professional in the aesthetic dept, I agree with her.

I have worked over 8 years at LVMH and I love the heritage and tradition that the monogram represents. It is true the Neverfull has seen amazing success. But i think it depends on how you wear it. LV has been making active efforts to gravitate towards leather bags creating their icons. But as the travel experts they are nothing is as carefree as a canvas monogram bag. I would say rock it for travel, casual ocassions and as a shopper and you should be fine.

Yep! The LV bags are everywhere! Which is why I went for the YSL Niki bag, all black. It’s not flashy, and goes great whether I’m dressed up or down.
I in a way understand what you mean about Neverfull... but I find my Neverfull (the biggest size one) so useful for my travel especially when I fly long distance... light, easy to carry and very tough. So, there are people who carry Neverfull for a certain purpose and for the function, too...

I'd love to see a video about elegant budget handbags or things to look for in a handbag that make them classy and timeless.
Some may disagree with me, but I have a closet full of Aldo bags, the average price is $55 and they are my most complimented bags amongst all types of women when I am in public. I have a bag to match every outfit so spending hundreds on a bag isn't worth it for me.
What I like about many of their bags, is they last and overall look better than many expensive bags.
I love this video and I feel that all of her points are valid. A lot of designer purses have lost value or are too "busy" in terms of prints and things of that sort. Definitely staying away from the bags mentioned (besides the neverfull ☺️ I honestly love that bag lol)
