This is an extremely big concrete floor pour for a very large new construction home being built on a lake in Maine.
We are hired to come in and pour and finish the concrete floor, so my opinion really doesn't matter. But, I'd like your opinion on whether you think this is an oversized new construction home or if you'd like a home this size.
For us, we get paid by the square foot, so the bigger the better. If you're a builder or another tradesman, maybe you like these large homes.
What about if you're going to live in a home like this? Let me know what you think. What are the extra costs associated with owning a very large home like this versus an average size home?
As far as pouring a big concrete floor for this home, it's really no more work than pouring a smaller one, just a few more trucks to unload and a some more square footage to screed and finish.

Seriously big house there mate great pour
Bigger always better
Hi Mike, Can you you and the guys do a walk around video of your trucks? You guys have a nice setup. Thank you
NC here, no basement. 1500sq ft Ranch house is all you need. Have a good floor plan, 3br, 2ba good size kitchen and MBR. 3t heatpump. Done. Detached 2 car insulated garage.
3K square ft. currently and need bigger. The main issue with bigger homes is storage space. Most just don't have enough.
Who needs that much room. I can't even keep a 1200 sq ft home clean.🤙
Just curious
Started my business 4 years ago ...Me and 1 other guy ..he's a rookie ...I hadn't skreet all my floors biggest done was 7200 foot all.hand boarded myself....was a Long day ...I'll.skreet 3000 myself and trowl it bo issues ...but I want to get into the technology!
So I'm currently building a house for myself I'm a contractor in nw Washington Ocean park Washington to be exact it is total including garage 6700 sft all on one level and there's a bonus room above the garage that's 20x40. It is an ICF house so lots of concrete. When we poured the floor all the same day it was 92 yards including spread footings. Whish i could attach some pics, it's right on the willipa bay.. I built it that large more fore investment purposes as I will leave all this to my daughters and grandchildren. I hadall girls even though I needed boys, but I love my girls and my grandchildren are all boys soy hopefully I can leave the company to them. Love your work Mike.
Im in Florida and its just me and a roomate in a 3 bed 2 bath 2car about 1500sq ft and its plenty for the 2 of us
1500 sq ft 60s ranch perfect size for family of 4…just short on storage space.
Planning a big pad for a shed but its 200’ from nearest truck access. Going to have to rent a cart
My house is only 1400 square feet. Its plenty for me. The bigger the house, the more cleaning you gotta do.
How much do you charge per sf just to pour
My ideal is based on my age and health to climb and clean. Ideal 2000😁😁
Groveland ma - 1400 square ft house single family ranch attached 2 car garage. I work a day job and I have a side business. The smaller house the better less maintenance and house keeping. More time making money less time taking care of a house
My house is 860 sq ft. on 5 acres in rural Mass. I rehabbed it and turned a 3br that had 4 makeshift additions into a 1 br. The original house was a Sears & Robuck kit from the 40's, I basically turned it into a post & beam and lived in it for the entire renovation. Finally finished last yr, there's not a single piece of old lumber that wasn't replaced. It looks much bigger than it is w cathedral ceilings and open floor plan. Best part is I heat it with 2 cord of wood (no other heating system) and with the AC running 16 hrs a day in the summer, elec bill is under $150. The best part of having a 1 bedroom is that it prevents chicks with kids from ever wanting to move in.
Like anything in life, too big is bad and too small is bad. More maintenance, higher heating/cooling costs, more cleaning
What slump do you pour. It often looks like the slump is about a 7 or 8?
Live in San Jose Ca my home is 2080sq ft two story and finished 2 car garage. Think it’s perfect but friends thinks it big. Have a living room and dining that never get used. We Use patio, kitchen and family room most.
Thanks for sharing!
Hey wondering did you get a request from the homeowners to make sure the concrete slopes to the dealer in the game room. On a serious note great video......
Give me a 1000 sq. ft house and a full basement. AND a 5 CAR 30 FT DEEP GARAGE.😊 2 spots for cars and the other 3 bays for my workshop
wouldn't want to pay to heat that place
1,200-1,500 sf house for the wife. 5,000 sf shop for me.
Did I just see Humpty Dumpty sitting on the wall?
I got a small house! It’s about 1000 sqf and my kids are grown and it’s too big for me 😂
Nice work guys..........
id hate to heat it,cool it or clean a house that size,,,mine is 1300 sq ft and i dont use a 1/3 of it,,,,good luck to the owner !!!!!
All I would need is a small house and a big barn with a nice workshop! Good job guys!
1950 square feet, just 2 of us and has been plenty of room for 25 years. 500 square foot covered deck. The more room the more junk. LOL
Do you guys put a bunch of cuts in that basement?
Yes, a lot of them
Your vids are like Lays chips...I can't just have one.😆
Love your work and instruction.
Hi; Bigger is better, my home is 1,100'. I'm surprised no Rebar or grates ontop of foam sheets..
We rent 3300 sq ft finished. We are 3 people. Nowhere near enough room. Next year dream to build 4400 sq ft. Plus garage. Should cost me $150,000 to build by myself Canadian $
Do contractors ever use mesh in foundation walls?
no reason to. wire mesh isnt strong enough. foundation walls that are like the ones in the video would have a grid of rebar inside them, though
@@nathang.1561 I meant to say fiber mesh in walls.
In y 50's the average was 1200+ square feet for a family
3400 ft²/level is gluttonous.
Just downsized a couple years ago from 3200 Sq Feet house plus a 2 car 580 Sq foot garage to a 1200 Sq foot house with 3 car 1000 Sq foot garage. Once we go through and get rid of all the stuff we no longer need it'll be just right I think for a couple.
Easier to make big then to add big later.
Lots of storage for hibernation in winter time.
Better resale value.
You can rent out rooms for income if needed.
Nice to have no plumbing buried in concrete there.
Good to have insulation in cold climates. Lease heating cost/hassles
2236 sqft here including the attached garage. Which the garage is actually converted to living space as well. More than big enough for 3 of us. Bigger = more taxes, insurance, heat, cleaning. I do have a lot of sq. footage in out buildings though , about 10,000 between 3 shops here. I am an excavating and grading contractor so I need the shop space. Taxes are a killer in Upstate NY!!
You would think as I’m a builder I’d have a pretty big house, well mine is smaller but I’d be honest I should’ve went bigger. Did I mention that I have added on 4 times😊
42 years in the trades mainly carpenter and roofer with just enough wall and flatwork to be dangerous. Live in 2176 sf ranch. Big enough for family at holidays small enough to maintain in senior years.
Did i hear correctly, insulation at the footing? Hopefully not under the footing and post pads. BEST AND PEACE
I love these videos. Been thinking about getting us a vibe screed. You like the 12’ board best??
Bigger is always better! Current home sq ft is: 3900 😄👍
do you ever use self leveling concrete
if I had one of those watches whileI was on a pour with a come along (rake), it would be in the thousands! 😂😀👍
I would definitely like something bigger. That basement is like 3 of my houses.
Question for you Mike: do you ever have any issue with the mud rolling under the power skreed board. I've personally never used one, but with a manual, if you're not careful, the fluff and cream on top will roll under and end up high behind it, causing us to have to set back and hit it again. This is especially a problem if you don't have good mud pullers on your crew, so you may have never experienced this, lol. Not recently at least. I was mainly wondering if the vibration of the board make this issue worse or better. Thanks.
I do not want to maintain a house that size even if I hired people to clean it's stupid how many rooms does anyone sleep in every night.
Philly suburbs 2200 sf and finished basement. I don’t need more space just more land and a garage to store my heavier equipment.. 35 married with one kid
I have 1800 of living space .two stories. I'm 60 years old and starting to have health issues. So I would love a single level smaller house.
pardon me for my nervousness $80 is alot to give a stranger on the internet anyone here been through the course that can tell me if this is worth or not?
My house is 3400sq/ft 315sq/m 4bed games room and triple car garage. No basement in Australia no need. Only 2 of us now so it's too big to manage at 60. No mortgage but nowhere to move as prices have sky-rocketed here. Fun fact 40% of pollution in Australia is from building.
Not sure why people just want to spend that much on taxes!
Mine is 2200 Sq Ft on 80 acres . Huge houses to me are a waste its just to show off. unless you have 10 kids you dont need it .
My house is about 4,200 sq ft. Honestly, with the kids now grown and gone, its way more than we need. I would rather have a 2000 sq ft house and 2500 sq ft garage. :)
If I had two million dollars just sitting around doing nothing, I would want a mansion with a underground waterproof nuclear shelter, a nice TV room, a really nice game room, a root-cellar, a beverage-cellar, a computer-room, a separate guest room, a hidden-safe-room, a library, a party-room, a working-induatrial kitchen off the dining area, a indoor pool, a solarium, s courtyard, a glass conservatory, a two-car garage on each end of the house, an elevator, etc.
Way to big that is. Around 2000 ft. And that is still too big.
I have to creep through a maze of boxes and totes to get to my gym in the basement. I'm in my office on the second floor right now and to my right are 5-6 life size, scary Halloween decorations. Creepy girls and headless women and such. When I come up the stairs to get here, on the midway landing, there is a 6 foot tall clown, super creepy looking. I often wake up at 2-4AM from horrible nightmares and every time I open the door to the stairs I get tricked thinking that someone is standing there. It's a bit creepy but I at least turned all of the ones in my office so they are looking at the wall, which is kind of creepy too, like I have punished them by making them look into the corner, always imagining the heads slowly turning. I'd love more room. I should put the whole menagerie of scary monsters and creepy girls in my son's bedroom, facing his bed. Sometimes I'll take one and put it in the shower and close the curtain.
