I have used cotten to get a spray effect with afew paddle steanmers and colored the cotten black for smoke.

That sounds like a great method Kevin. Thanks for chiming in with it and thanks for tuning in to the show. I'd love to see some pictures of your work if you are willing to send them to me.

Kenny. Whew, this video stressed me out and I was so tired at the end I had to take a nap. Lots of fit it and wait for it to set up time. I really like the progress so far, nice detail.

Thanks for the kind words on the project and the show Paul. These ship projects can be stressful but the challenge that they bring, far outweighs any stress that they might create. They're just fantastic projects. Thanks for tuning in sir. Always great to hear your comment on the show.

For darkening the paper in making sails, try using makeup powder. They stick well and stay dry so you don’t have to worry about soaking and then drying your sails.

I would be concerned with the powder transferring to the bottle while inserting the ship. The soaking method isn't that bad. Thanks for the suggestion John.

Almost ready to Weigh anchor and be Outward bound. Is one the famous Blue Nose Schooner? I built her as a kid. Enjoyed! Take care!

These are just generic schooners Michael. The Blue Nose (out of Nova Scotia, Canada I believe) is a because ship though for sure and it would be an awesome project to put into a bottle. You've got the wheels turning now in my mind. Thanks for tuning in this week and taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate it.

@@acutabove_woodworkings When I was in elementary school I built a lot of the plastic sailing ships. Mostly fighting ships. The Blue Nose was a beautiful ship! I look at sailing ships as a pieces of historical architectural engineering. A piece of art. Though I've never rode a motorcycle, Indians and Harleys are in my view sculptures of art. Just my artistic point of view lol. Take care Ken!

I cannot send you any measurements Senthil because each ship is custom made and measured to fit in the neck of the bottle that you choose. Measure inner diameter of the bottle neck and subtract enough to allow your hull to slide into the bottle. That will be the width of your hull. The length can be as long or as short as you like, as long as it fits inside the bottle. Same goes for the masts. Just measure to make sure that they will fit inside your bottle and you will be fine. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

    What bottle are you using?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Před 3 měsíci

This is just a one gallon bottle that I actually bought from a yard sale. It had some pretty nasty residue and stains on the inside and I cleaned it up for this project. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in.

      Thank you for your reply.
Well, I am thinking of making 1:3200 scale Das Boot in a bottle and using plasticine for waves etc.
Admittedly I have not started yet. And have not taken measurements of the model.
I would like to use a whisky bottle as I drink whiskey and so have a few empty 1.5 Ltr bottles hanging around.
So, it would seem I have some choices to make.
One, find a bottle with the correct neck. Or two cut the bottle and have loads of space and then rejoin the bottle, which on the face of it may seem easier.
The main thing so Farr is, how to find a bottle with the neck size I need?
I am assuming that the USA is very different to the UK in that we don’t have yard sales.
And so it occurred to me that there must be some sort of online forum, or club to ask what may seem a strange question.
What bottle of booze do you recommend as a good example for ships in a bottle?
Or, how can I buy the bottle back after use?
Then, there is the question, can I push the hull through the neck and then glue the conning tower on later, with precision taking in to consideration of smearing the glue?
Then the rigging will have to be done while the U Boat is in the bottle.
It would seem on the face of it, that cutting the bottle would be the easier solution.
I know your are not a dedicated ship in a bottle expert, but it is an interesting conundrum. What ideas do you suggest please?

@@thebarronflights Well, I will start off with the first point....I'm not American. I'm Canadian. The neck of the bottle is not a worry you need to think about. You don't get a neck that will suit the ship you want to install. You get a bottle that you like the shape of and build the ship according to the size of the neck. If the neck of the bottle is more narrow and you can't fit the entire ship through the neck, then the ship must be built in sections and dry fit together outside of the bottle. From there, the sections are inserted in the bottle and assembled right inside of the bottle. It can be tricky but that's the way that larger ships are inserted. The rigging would have to fully assembled as I showed here on the series, but instead of it being attached to a full hull of a ship, it would be attached to a thin top layer (basically the deck of the ship) and then glued down to the pieces that you already have installed and assembled inside the bottle. I hope this helps a bit. Of course I am always available to answer questions that you might have. You can always email me at kennye@acutabovewoodworkings.com.
