I've got a 9mm for self defense
A fire extinguisher for fire defense
And a spare tire for flat tire defense
Hopefully I'll never need any of them, but I'd rather have it than not.
And water wings for water defense
I have 3 spare tires for my truck (I drive on some nasty roads), and I have at least 3 firearms on or close to me wherever I go.
I feel the same about toilet paper. But I could live without toilet paper, but not without my self defense pieces.

Having a gun for self protection is like having a fire extinguisher for fighting fires, 99% never get used for thier purpose. But people still keep fire extinguishers around. Better to have it and not need it than need and not have it.
Fire extinguishers don’t get used to kill thousands of people a year. (I say thousands instead of the more accurate “10,000” because I do acknowledge most firearm deaths are attributed to suicides. But, murder by firearms is still in the thousands a year)

Yes and he does it the same exact thing even when he doesn't agree. This is what an adult conversation looks like and the folks at CNN, MSNBC and even FOX seem so incapable of having one of these.

Not saying Colion is anything but brilliant, but this made me think of a thing my grandfather used to tell me. He’d say, “it’s better to keep your mouth shut and listen even if it makes people think you’re and idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt” …😂
I was one of the many millions that used a gun, in my case shotgun, without having to shoot to defend myself and handicapped mother from 3 and possibly 4 home invaders. No shots fired. I just simply placed myself in a ready~to~ shoot position if a threat(s) would have forcibly entered my home. Threats left faster than they arrived after one of them saw the barrel of my shot gun pointed toward the rear doors. I was already on the phone with a deputy before the incident, and the sheriff finally arrived...14 minutes later! I did everything right, according to the anti~gun people, but police showed up too late. My anti~gun mother finally realized the reality of people being the first and often only first line of defense.

I was attacked by two road-raging hot-heads who followed me until I was trapped at a red-light, got out of their van and started walking to my window to crush my skull with a baseball bat. They stopped only after I pointed my gun at them. It never made the news and probably never included in any defensive use of guns study.
Defended self & young son in same fashion 15 years ago.
Again 30 years ago when preventing a robbery/car-jacking by 4 armed wannabe gangsters.
Yep, when the mugger stared down my gun barrel and learned I was illiterate and couldn't read no gun signs. he gave me his knife to pawn for reading lessons.
At least I guess that was it. I watched the news for a month waiting for the OMG, crazy man had a gun story.

At a gun control debate the police chief of Salt Lake City claimed that the city's new background check had stopped 7 people from buying a gun in Salt Lake City.
The city law did not prosecute them, they were simply denied the purchase.
I asked him if he thought that those 7 people were still unarmed.
He said, "Well, yes."
The room erupted in laughter.
John says, "People may think that they're well informed individuals." The reality is that such people are ill-informed individuals and, in most cases, they don't even understand how poorly they are informed.
I believe he’s referring to people suffering from the Dunning Kruger effect. It’s the intersectionality of high confidence and low competence…
More like "well indoctrinated" to believe what they are told to think, without question, and without any effort on their part to figure out the truth. To the point that they REFUSE to accept any contrary evidence.
It seems to be a trend lately for people to have opinions on subjects/matters they know nothing about. I personally don't know sh*t about basket weaving therfore it would be ignorant to even have an opinion on it.

I am woman who defended myself with a gun three times... and the second time I didn't even have a gun. (I just yelled, "Honey! Get your gun!" and they ran. Husband was out of town, so technically I didn't even have a 'honey' available. lol! But I lived in an area where guns are common, so my bluff was very believable. Probably expected.) The other two times all I had to do was show that I had a gun and that was enough to send the men running. I've never fired a shot in anger. Not once. Heck, I didn't even have to point the guns at the men.

Same here. I've been in 2 confrontations that were defused by using a firearm. Neither confrontation required firing the firearm, not even pointing it. This is a trend, statistically, in the U.S.
This is why I say if you're anti gun your anti woman.

I've been well aware of John Lott. I bought a pistol and started carrying about 12yrs ago and bought a few books by Massad Ayoob. I didn't know who he was but, learned quickly that his credentials related to concealed carry was very very extensive. I e learned a tremendous amount from him. He's not as visible as colion but, he's a staunch second amendment supporter as well.

One of the few people who is able to talk to "Our" Representatives and Senators who have to be called by 10-20% of my area's populace to go against something "Anti-Gun!" Though the state I live in is "Purple," both Senators are Dems (only one is an "I am Pro-2A, but...," I got a letter from him today and it began that way) and my Rep is currently a leftist!

I had to use my firearm in a self defense situation, instead of helping me out and aiding me as a victim, they made me look like a suspect and a bad individual. They took 2 years to dismiss my case and charged me with multiple charges. When I explained the situation they threw me in jail but luckily I had bonded out. I was charged with a felony and misdemeanor. My case kept getting continued and continued. I also was grazed in my head and almost died to 4 individuals shooting at me. I defended my brother and friends at the time. I was jumping in front of bullets to protect my people. Im glad I’m here today and I’m glad I wasn’t convicted. They also confiscated my firearm and will not give it back but it was fully legal. Be careful when defending yourself. You may be looked at as a person who wasn’t and will take years of your life to prove it. Im just now getting better. I have joined SDI for a gunsmithing career, something I’ve always wanted to do. I just hope whoever has been in a situation like me can recover and do well mentally later. I understand how cruel the system can be to a law abiding citizen. I didn’t even have a lawyer either. I was appointed a public defender who wanted me to take a plea. I couldn’t take a plea to something that was self defense. It was a very rough time in my life because I was scared I was going to jail for a long time. Please be careful everyone. Stay safe and stay dangerous.
If you going to carry it's a good idea to get carry insurance and your story is a prime example of this.

@@rockjockchick it just was very sad to go through that. And being treated how I was treated during the whole situation. If I didn’t have a bond I would’ve been locked up for 2 years just to be proven innocent. It’s crazy how the judicial system works in some ways. Sometimes good but sometimes very much against us.
@@campot5600 our justice system is fucked, it’s not innocent until proven guilty at all, ESPECIALLY when a firearm is involved. I’m still getting a gun though. I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Mr Lott has my support and respect. The podcast “self defense gun stories” details four episodes of defensive gun use each week. These real life stories are discussed and critiqued by weapons instructors. Rob Morse hosts this educational and relevant program.
As soon as a gun is seen that causes a person to NOT commit a crime, that same gun has caused a crime not to happen.
They only look at " gun violence" not how many crimes & lives are saved by the sight of a gun. No shots fired. No statistics available.
Most likely the reason a gun is pulled is in response to a crime such as breaking and entering or an assault (without battery). Honest people pull guns in response to a threat.

I lost my guns in a voting accident.
I see it like this, if we have to debate over owning firearms than maybe it's time to use them. Human beings dont give me my rights therefore human beings cant take them away.

Well, actually, human beings *do*, in fact, give you your rights. There would be no use for them if there were no other humans on the planet other than yourself.
And, humans *can* take them away--that's why you have guns!
I used Lott's research a lot in my paper, and it's interesting to see how people try to rebut his research. I can say that some of the criticisms might be valid but it doesn't discredit the overwhelming truth that firearms are used in defense of life a staggering number of times every year.
And those criticisms still don’t change the facts in Lott’s research they just hurt their feelings.
They can only rebut on an emotional level. not a single person can discredit the statistics and factual information provided.
I've seen websites dedicated to trashing Lott and his research. The overwhelming thing I noticed is how they used facile, and non-factual arguments and, more often than not, resorted to ad hominems. It's sad when even those trying to "debunk" Lott's research realize how trash their arguments are and have to resort to name calling to get some kind of gotcha moment. It'd be pretty hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic.
When I was 3-4 years old a man showed up at the front door said he was out of gas ( my mothers instinct told her this guy is not good ) she grabbed the rifle from the closet & told him to leave he ran back down the street jumped in his car & off he went That one time could have changed my life for ever , no telling what he had planned hurt my mom hurt me or both. So glad we had that gun in the house when we where growing up there where always guns under my parents bed. We where told not to touch them & Here I am 60 years old Thanks mom
I'd still be opposed to background checks on private sales/transfers, because it necessitates a national gun registry. That leads inevitably to confiscation.
The constitution does not say whom may NOT arm themselves. It basically grants the right to everyone to arm themselves. Any law that puts up roadblocks to arming oneself is unconstitutional.

This hits home man. I’ve defended myself via brandishing. I lived in Chicago for 5 years and had a group of guys attempt to mug me one night in a Jewel parking lot. As a CCL holder I put my hand on my pistol and never drew but they saw it and bolted. Never filed a report, never took a shot, crisis averted. I could’ve ended up dead, who knows

I used my gun this week when someone sounded like they were trying to break into the apartment below me? Pull it out yelled that I have a gun and was calling the police. They left and then the police showed up about 2-3 minutes later.
Unfortunately, your story doesn’t matter to the msm. They won’t take it into account statistically either.

I live in Texas and we're 8 minutes from the police station It still takes them 30 to 40 minutes to get here.

The police try to do their best most of the time but I think it is a person responsibility to take care of themselves. Nothing happened that's all I care about and the police did their jobs

Lawyers will say that you never ask witness a question you don't already know the answer to; liberals know that they CAN'T debate this man, because he will present facts, logic and statistical proof, which they cannot answer or refute.

I joined a shooting range to familiar myself with guns and have the ability to shoot many different brands and caliber of guns… many of the shooters aren’t gun fanatics, many are sportsman and avid gun shooters. As a retired police officer from a major east coast city, I could say that I’ve taken out my gun 1000s of time in my 20 years and thank god never had to use it. I took my gun out to protect myself, not the public. As a police officer we are trained to stop the threat. Talk about training, we had the worst training available for a major city, we are suppose to qualify once a year and achieve an 80% to maintain the use of a firearm. This being, I felt I wanted more training on a weekly basis to understand my proficiency with a pistol and joining a shooting range is great… if you want to handle a gun with proficiency, you must join a shooting range. A person must prepare themselves for an unexpected event. Most people in a stressful event, ie. Burglary, will panic and forget about the firearm (because it’s usually safely tucked somewhere where the gun is safe) the gun must be readily available. Plus, having a gun doesn’t mean you have to shoot a person… having a gun in your hand and stating I have a gun and fire a warning shot will surely reduce the threat. No one wants to shoot a person, because believe me you will have so much monetary and legal issues, even though your in the right….it took me 20 years plus an additional 14 years of further law enforcement investigations that prepared me for situations, how many years have you trained to prepare yourself for stressful events? Having a CCW or home defense weapon, doesn’t mean your ready to use it …. Always be prepared…. Mentally and physically….

The thing is most people who have to either pull their weapon or illustrate their possession of such in a defensive situation do not report the incident to any official agency.
I have carried legally and non legal for 40 years. I have only pulled it on someone once. 4 thugs tried to pull me out of my truck (luckily my doors lock when my truck is in drive) and just the fact that I had the jump on pulling my firearm saved my life.

I have been trying to get people to read John Lott for years and years. I've been shooting for 65+yrs and I never stop learning. When I find excellent sources of information I stick with them. I am 84 and concealed carry permitted, have been since retiring from the military. Twice in the last 45 years I have been forced to draw my weapon for self defense. Both times I would have lost my life if I were unarmed because the other people involved clearly stated that they were going to kill me. One out of road rage and once in an armed robbery. I agree with the comments made about the fire extinguisher and the spare tire. A gun, fire extinguisher and a spare tire are there for an unforeseen emergency. Self protection is a human right. 2A backs up that right.
Collectivists want to take your rights, you have to question their true motives.
To me, the question is, essentially, "What are they planning to do that I would want to shoot them for?"

Collective societies often have better quality of life for their citizens and have objectively superior outcomes for education, healthcare, crime, and basic human rights. Are there exceptions yes, are rhese societies perfect? No. I'm not ignoring that.
European and Asian countries have far lower rates of violent crime and school shootings, police shootings, police brutality, and other crimes.
Because government economical policies that guarantee healthcare as a basic human right, dont stigmatize and ostracize mental health issues, and dont abuse the mentally ill and mental health standards.
Gun control may not work but dammit we have other options to reduce and eventually eliminate all violent crime and make people far less likely to want to commit mass shooting.
@@nil981 You can't observe European and Asian societies having lower rates of violent crime and conclude "that's due to collectivist." It's ridiculous to compare countries like that. There's so many variables that are different that comparisons are almost meaningless.
This country was founded on respecting and honoring the individual and I'll fight to the death to keep it that way.

The most humble and reasonable people I know owe guns. Most gun owners understand the power and responsibility that comes with having a firearm. Outside of the gate keepers of the gun community and the know-it-alls, since joining the 2A community I’ve been embraced and treated like family. Gun owners aren’t just protectors their my family🙏🏾
Preventative gun use stories are maybe more important to hear about than crime commitment stories because it shows the potential to stop crime before it happens.
Really learned a lot from this discussion. I knew the media was being very one sided when it came to reporting gun incidents, but I did not realize how badly the main stream media does not want to broadcast a discussion with you, Colin and/or John Lott. Please keep us informed.

Jeff Cooper, Bruce Colodny, Massad Ayoob, and you Mr. Noir, John Lott is one of my heros. I've noticed that when good guys stop the bad guys gets reported it seems like the good guy is almost always an off duty/retired cop or security of some sort.
