St. James Cathedral Choir, Chicago, IL
    Director of Music: Stephen Buzard
    Organ Scholar: Meg Cutting
    Audio Recording from December 2019
“Illuminare, Jerusalem” was commissioned for King’s College, Cambridge’s 1985 service of Nine Lessons and Carols, under Stephen Cleobury. The Scottish medieval text was preserved in the 1568 Bannatyne Manuscript. The phrase "illuminare, Jerusalem" is excerpted from Isaiah 60:1, "Surge, illuminare, Jerusalem" or, "Arise, shine, Jerusalem," but the anonymous poem is largely original.
