She is a Nigerian black woman and clearly struggled with her self esteem, probably wore natural hair in the past because she could not afford wigs. When she finally made money she was able to afford to buy hair and therefore views it as a status symbol
Her trying to take legal action is wild to me. They didn’t force her to react to the question that way.

Sometimes protective styles can give our natural hair a break, so it's a dilema. I have no issues wearing my natural hair however. I grew up with such a positive view of afro hair... As someone who has doctors and judges in my family, at high class professional events black women with natural hair or natural looking hair are preferred. If they wear wigs it’s not too long example Michelle Obama. Long wigs that do too much is sometimes associated with lower class.

I agree with people women in my educated family wearing natural, silk press, or natural-looking extensions. Never the super long, straight mesh wig. That looks… distracting. Rather than enhancing.
@@CammyjOfficial I had a conversation with a white Latino man I really respect. He’s married to an Afro-Latina woman, and he said that in board meetings in his medical field, he sees more and more black women in leadership there, and they stand out, and wear their natural hair proudly.
That’s awesome because that representation matters.

For years l was so naive. I just assumed that people in the countries of Africa did not have the self hatred disease. You can't imagine how tired l felt were l learned the truth.

That comment was wild and crazy. One can prefer wigs if they want, no problem, but don’t put down those who choose to wear their natural hair in ALL occasions. There’s so many examples of natural hair at weddings and other special occasions.
Hello 👋🏾! There was no reason for her to degrade natural hair in such a way as if it was like dirt under someone’s feet. She can love wigs all she wants, but why must she laugh at and try to bring down the image of women who decide to wear their hair for elegant occasions? In any case, she has done a complete 180 with her comments and said she didn’t mean what said the way she said it… even though it was very clear she meant what she said. Thank you for watching!

😅😅Not us no makeup girlies catching strays too. Makeup is beautiful but some of us prefer to go minimalist or none at all. On the subject of natural vs wigs, I’m not really surprised. I held the same opinions too and had to actively work on loving myself. I had to as a 24yr old because I couldn’t imagine another 24 years of carrying around hatred for something I could never change.

Hello 👋🏾! I really don’t mind wigs at all, but I do mind when someone tries to tell me my natural hair is not good enough to be seen as elegant or be accepted why wearing an expensive dress because they believe some straight hair looking wig is better.

When I went natural I fell in love with my natural hair instantly, I’ve never seen my curls before I never sat in front of a mirror with my natural hair being done it was always in front of a television nor was I given mirror to look at it, my mom expressed how she couldn’t stand it, until it was in braids or my hair was straightened with a hot comb that was only time my hair was beautiful to her. I felt bad about myself growing up during those times --poor self esteem and poor self image. I did my self care 4 years ago eliminating toxic people and I started to love and nurture everything about me and take care of my inner child that didn’t have a chance to be her own kind of beautiful until now. It’s amazing what eliminating toxic people and toxic traits can do. Self love is important to have-it reflects on choices in life😊
I believe anyone can do what they want with their hair but I felt hurt when she compared afro hair with an expensive dress. It portrays her insecurities and I can relate because I have been there before and it took me a journey of self love.

Where I am from the natural hair crowd is growing and at least in my niece's social circle theu are all natural.
On Christmas we went to church and it was encouraging bto see so many teenagers wearing their natural hair. Natural hair is special occasion hair.

As a public speaker who has been on many big stages in my industry, content creator, author, writer, etc…I mainly only wear my hair in natural styles at events as representation matters.
People can have their preferences…I prefer not to wear wigs or extensions…I don’t care how others wear their hair…however I find those comments to be sad and an unfortunate mindset that I hope doesn’t transfer to future generalizations.
I agree. I think people should be able to do what they want with their hair, my issue is her putting natural hair down while doing so. Representation definitely matters. I wear my natural hair to galas, when public speaking and the like as well.

Funny how she says "don't bring your natural hair to my event" when a natural hair wearing South African woman Zozibini won the title of Miss Universe, the most prestigious event. Her events definelty do not surpass that level.

It's the view that curls, braids, dreads/locs, afros, etc are not "professional" or acceptable in school, work or television. Rock what you got with confidence! I love my crown from the roots down.

What upset me when watching the clip is the way the other two were laughing. Cmon you’re laughing at yourself. She did a 360 because of the social media backlash she’s getting which she obviously did not expect. I have no problem with weaves, wigs or relaxed hair. I’ve relaxed my hair for more than 35 years and thanks to the pandemic lockdown and not being able to visit a salon I decided to return to natural and I’m sorry I didn’t do this many years ago. Hello 👋🏾! I truly feel she gave her real feelings and only backtracked because of the pressure after the interview came out. People don’t know how much people suffer because they have been taught to hate their hair and be embarrassed of it. I can’t imagine a young girl who looks up to her and how they would feel about themselves after what she said.
My bridesmaids and I all wore our natural hair to my wedding, and we all looked beautiful, in our expensive dresses. lol
I watched the whole podcast, which was hard to watch, and many of her ideas on beauty she contradicts herself on several occasions. Even with her businesses, in so many words, she believes that she is not good enough how she is naturally without the wig and body enhancements.
No need to sue the podcast at all. She spoke during most of it and nothing she said was taken out of context and she seemed very unapologetic about everything she said!

Her words led me to believe that she doesn’t believe her hair was good enough, so I’m not surprised to see that she doesn’t think other aspects of herself are not good enough without “enhancements”. I agree she doesn’t need to take legal action, because like for what??? She said everything she meant to say and laughed along with those other women when she was putting natural hair as low to the ground as possible.
Lol I feel you! Well I wanted to see for myself unfortunately. I’m like, maybe it’s not as bad. Natural hair was just a part of it. There were several other ideas I didn’t agree with. Which is fine, but you’re 100% right about her mindset which is evident in the entire podcast. She also has a makeup business and skincare line. And that’s great for her but she’s still not happy with herself.

Every other race gets to wear their hair as it grows out of their scalp for all occasions without question, but when it comes to our hair now taste level is involved and questioned when it comes to styles for black hair.

If someone with straight hair wore a wash and go and came to an event or wedding with straight hair, no one would be like why didn't you curl your hair? and our wash and gos actually take a lot of work and styling. I've been loc'd for 3 years now and I love it. I decided to get locs because I felt that my natural hair controlled me. It always took so much time, and I was always nervous of last-minute events because I needed so much time to do my hair. But then I realized my hair took so much time because I was manipulating it way too much. I was trying for my hair to be what it naturally wasn't and curl in ways it naturally didn't, which required a lot of time, product and hair gadgets. And the reason why I was doing all that is because in my head, the way my hair was naturally was not beautiful enough.

Yes it is a problem and a problem that has persisted for so long. I am definitely happy to see more black women accepting and wearing their natural hair more now.
I have very densed,thick, full 4b natural hair that looks curly when I apply my leave in conditioner, cream moisturizer, blue Magic hair grease or oils. I get compliments from many different races of people. But when the complements come from black people. They always complement me by telling me that I got that good hair. Some have even told me that if they had my texture they would not be wearing wigs. And when ever I try encourage them and tell them that they can look just as beautiful with thier natural hair. They always respond by saying oh no girl my hair to nappy it won't look right. SMH.

Dam…I’m a product of the social movement of the 60’s. Is this history repeating itself. One of the focal points of that movement for Black folks was to be proud of our hair, our broad noses and our full lips; our features! Is this history repeating itself. I often wondered why so many Black women today now wear these straight hair extensions; flipping and stroking their wig hair!

I’m disgusted by her comments. I’m a hairstylist and I use to wear my hair all types of ways but I have come to this point where I think it’s of the utmost importance that I wear my natural hair. I’m regularly confronted by peoples attitudes and judgments about my hair in a way I never noticed before. It hurts my soul that the world has so much hatred towards us including our own people. I have 4c hair and I love it, I don’t know why anyone feels that they have the authority to police it. It’s gorgeous unlike that chicks wig. People are so offended by my confidence as I flaunt my beautiful hair as though they think I have no right to feel this way. It’s just sad and pathetic that so many black people feel like their blackness isn’t good enough. When a dark skin black woman with 4C hair has confidence, people are UPSET and want her to “humble” herself!!! Why? Yes and there were videos I found of children getting these wigs but decided only to use one in my example. It is sad.
It made me feel bad for her. That she’s downloaded the programming that her body as the dna formed it is not good enough. It’s heartbreaking. Then to try to take one’s own shame to use it to bludgeon against other women is next level.
All women should feel free to wear a multiplicity of styles (I often wear blow outs in the icy cold of winter since my super dense super coarse hair takes 3 days to dry) but I think I look absolutely stunning and just outstanding in my fro. I know we are all on a spectrum of unpacking colonialism (I wore my hair relaxed for years and years) so her ideas reflect ones I held in the past, but it’s so sad to see how alive this still is. I’m old, I had so much hope for young folks, but just like everything in society, we are in a retrograde moment.

Most overt flack I have gotten throughout my life regarding my natural, type 4 hair, has been from other black people, basically deeming it “unkempt” because I was not obsessed with having bone straight hair constantly or wearing weaves or pieces.
That’s why I said it really is your own people dragging you down. Statements like “when are you going to do your hair???” Were all I heard when I cut my relaxer off and started to rock my shirt natural hair.
@@CammyjOfficial I think back to the summer of 2005 when I got a summer job in Montana as a college junior headed towards my 4th year. There were foreign workers alongside me, some coming from Jamaica, Trinidad and other places. They gave me SO much ridicule, constantly asking me why I didn’t “cream” my hair, although I was staying in a shared cabin and had no access to a black salon. I guess they didn’t like that I would not rush to get a straightening perm somewhere. I just ignored them and kept a simple ponytail for the summer. After 2011, I officially abandoned chemicals altogether and have stayed that way.

@@CammyjOfficial No worries. I was very strong-willed and refused to let people stress me out about aesthetics. My apologies regarding the above post; I meant the summer of 2006. I have never been great at handling my hair on wash days or having enough time, so I just go to a salon and stick to simple styling.

It seems to be where we were in the 70s-90s with perms and into the 2000s with weaves, and many people are still there-looking down on the race for wearing natural hair.

@@CammyjOfficial I see it on young cancer patients, and that’s okay, but if possible and I know that it’s based on the child, but I believe it’s good to instill in the child that they are beautiful no matter what. For example, I had breast cancer. Although I am an adult, but after choosing to do a complete mastectomy, I wear my bare chest with no shame, at all ever. We are all different I know, and children are so very delicate.

I'm confused because all the wigs in the podcast looked bad but okay, lol. OAN, the overall commentary is problematic and unfortunate. Women should be able to wear their hair the way they want but she could have kept those ignorant comments to herself. I wore waist length locs for 16 years and cut them off about two years ago to be a loose natural (tapered cut wash n go), this summer I went to being a baldie and I love it! I tried to play in wigs just to change up the look every now and then but its something about seeing my natural hair and the structure of my face that just screams confidence.😉 Nothing wrong with wigs but your wig shouldn't look worse than your natural hair on a bad day. 🤷♀
I definitely agree that there’s nothing wrong with wigs, but it’s definitely a problem when someone says natural hair isn’t good enough to be worn and seen as elegant. I am all for people being able to do what they want with their hair, just don’t put natural hair down while you do what you do. I appreciate your commentary!

I've been natural for over 5 years now and my female co-workers have called me many names. From trifling dog to I was wearing a wig. And they are the ones who wear wigs & dye their hair.

And when you take care of your hair well and it starts to flourish they say it “isn’t your hair”

Poor thing is so deluded. There are so many gorgeous updos that can be done on hair that's medium length or longer. And shorter hair can be set with twists, knots, etc. for a beautiful texture. And all the hairdos can be adorned beautifully. I'm not angry; I just think it's pitiful.

It made me safe to see them just laughing at the fact she saying no natural hair can’t be worn with an expensive dress. Like natural hair is only good for when you’re playing with your niece or running out to the store???
This would make me wear my natural hair to her event and stunt on her and everyone else who thinks this way. My hair will always be superior to ANYTHING you can bit over or in it!!! I'll never forget I was doing class observations and it was a little black girl 4th grade.
She kept putting her hood on and her teacher (yt lady) kept telling her to take it off.
She did this 2x before her teacher asked her why she keeps putting her hood on. I knew why because the days before she would wear a little stretchy headband similar that lady wig in the video and that particular day she didn't have one, so her edges were exposed.
The little girl started crying and she told her to step outside so they could talk. When they were out talking her classmates (yt) said what's wrong with her.
I told them she doesn't think her hair looks good and that they should tell her it looks fine. They were confused cause they said they didn't notice anything wrong with it nor did they say anything about her hair.
The teacher came back in and when I saw her go into the closet and saying what i had inferred that she didn't like her hair while she was pulling out a ribbon 🎀
The little girl came back in happy and I'll never forget it.
Her hair was fine and she felt inferior because her hair was exposed and she considered it "not done" I implore parents to be mindful of the language they use around their kids especially their daughters kids are like sponges.
I know if she was around our kind they woulda said her edges not done or her hair nappy and Billy and Becky did not care. We are our worst enemy because none of them cared and even in real life theh don't care. I obviously know this hair hate stems from colonialism but the most derogatory remarks I've gotten came from my people even some family members 😵💫
Hello 👋🏾! People have attacked me soooooo many times in the comments because they claim my daughter is bi-racial and my husband is secretly white or half white (he is neither!!!). Girl, that’s why I said it be your own people. I have only heard black people weaponize the word nappy against other black folks hair in this age. I remember my friend went natural and she went to her family reunion… they tore her up about it her hair. This is truly 😢 for I was raised in a sadistically abusive family & until 2003 when I went to JAIL & had female's there braiding it telling me how amazing it was, how UNIQUE for up till than my family shamed me over it, telling me I 'have too much' & legit had me HATING it when the opposite is true for the % of pple who have naturally THICK hair is super duper small & thanx to those women I learned I have something to be grateful for, to ❤ & appreciate it which I do tho getting older it's NOWHERE as thick as it was even a decade ago, I ❤ my hair & my ❤ truly hurts over this issue & hoping we can UNITE, ❤ each other & OURSELVES for it's the only way, UNITED we stand, divided we fall. Wear your own hair natural, relaxed, wash n go, stop and press, curly, coily, long, short, shaved and laid. Wear any style as long as it's all yours growing from your head. The beautiful hair that GOD. Gave you, stop covering your hair with other races hair. No Indian woman's hair, No Asian woman's hair. Let's Celebrate our beauty. Enough is enough stop the insanity. Dear, you used,spot on the same example that I gave my sis when discussing the Fact that other races get to wake up from bed and they can go out, with their hair as it is and even move their fingers through it,and its not viewed as 'scattered' or something they should 'tidy and arrange', Instead its 'Beautiful, Stylish,and Effortlessly Chic'. Exactly! Everyone else gets to be FREE with their hair but US. WHY!? Why is it that Afro textured hair is described as “unkempt” and needs to be “tamed”. We have been programmed to think there is something inherently WRONG with our hair when that is the opposite of the TRUTH. Once we stop seeing ourselves through the lens of European beauty standards we can start appreciating who we are.

It's comments like this that set us back. Many women use wigs to protect their natural hair or don't have time for the salon but anytime there is something special we show off our lovely hair. Nowwwww how are we even gonna comfortably wear them😒

I'm going to get dragged but... I wouldn't wear my natural hair for special occasions either. Not because it's ugly, I wear my natural hair 85% of the time and when I'm not wearing it I wear braids. It's about switching things up. Girls with straight hair curl their hair, and girls with curly hair like to straighten it for special occasions. At very least, I'd try to do a nice twist out or a flexi rod set, but you know that they're a hit or miss and might not come out well. I've had way more unsuccessful twist outs than great ones. The bigger issue is her projecting her own preferences onto other people and think that since she doesn't want to wear her natural hair that everyone else shouldn't. That screams self-hatred
I am a firm believer that people can and should wear their hair the way they want. I am also a firm believer that natural hair is beautiful and worthy in all spaces for all occasions. Girls with straight hair do curl their hair and vice versa, but it is never looked at as a requirement to be seen as beautiful for them. If they decided not to curl their hair or wear it straight people would automatically accept it as being good enough for whatever occasion they are attending. Black people seems to be the only ones who’s natural hair has to be restructured in order to be seen as “good enough”, when in reality our natural hair is already good enough as it grows out of our heads, just like other races.
