- Hi guys in this video we take a look at a Honda Jazz that I bought from auction a few weeks back for just over £425. Now it turns out all is not well with my little Jazz 😁
I would appreciate your comments and please like and subscribe to my Channel, Thanks for watching

That's a Glasgow registered Jazz! Winter road conditions here in west central Scotland are very harsh. Road salting is brutal here November to March and it looks like this little Honda has really suffered as a result. I actually have a 53 plate Civic as a second car. Its in super clean condition and absolutely rust free - even underneath. Thing is for the first 18 years of its life in lived in Bedfordshire. Never buy an old car that's lived in Scotland all it's life regardless of make!
Ultra true.. unless it was garaged and low miles.
Arnold Clark Glasgow f****d up my car😡🤬!
I always see cars registered in Scotland for sale in South East England for suspiciously cheap...
@@Negativvv Dealerships accept trade-in's with only a casual look around the car and will often give you book price if you're looking to finance a new car from them. Obviously they discover the problems and sell them off sharpish
Ideal takeaway delivery car, these and MK1 Yaris.
MK1 Yaris imo is the most reliable car ever made 👍
Jeeeeezus - the chassis made the rear arches look presentable. They've recovered artifacts from the Titanic with less rust than this heap!
yes was a bit of a shitter barry 😁
It’s good to see you show the bad buys aswell as the good buys. Keeps it real. Shame you couldn’t keep it for parts
Check mine out i do the same and transparent 👍
I remember Japanese rotboxes in the 80's - 260z / 120y / sunny.
Not much has changed.
That plastic arch cover trim probably trapped water and made the problem worse.
agree
The right sign to get suspicious ....
The warning sign for me was the number plate, registered in Scotland they have harsh winters up there!
Makes you wonder even from my P.C i can see its very rough.....
I concur living near Glasgow. Road salting is brutal here from about November to March. That's a Glasgow registered car.
Arnold Clark, too!😡🤬 No wonder the dealer on Pollokshaws Road is closed. Shocking customer service!
Hi Lee, This has made me realise there is a HUGE difference in scrap prices in Scotland compared to England I just did a quote using an Aberdeen postcode and a Manchester one.. Same car £210 in Aberdeen £349 in Manchester..
Some of the big scrap metal merchants are based at liverpool docks, closer to the docks the more money they pay
@@carukchannel That makes sense. But at those rates I should maybe save em up and ship em all down ;-)
Rust killed my RD1 CRV. I went in cheap, knowing it was rusty and got a good 18 months service out of it. Rear end rust was the killer. Sills/arches/inner arches. The old adage of not poking the rusty bit is very much the truth with old Hondas.
This is why I watch your channel. its so educational. GREAT CONTENT AS ALWAYS THANKS
Thanks peter 👍👍
@@carukchannel pls I want Lexus Is250 2005-2010 model automatic transmission can you buy that
Unfortunately too far gone, no return on investment on this one and sending it the great scrapheap in the sky is the best thing. Really appreciate your honesty with regards to this mate and the reality of buying and selling, as you said whip out the battery and if you can be bothered the stereo and you should break even easily. Cheers again Lee and keep up the great content.
Not everything is roses in this game Check mine out i do the same
She is red rotten!! Shame though very reliable motors my neighbour as had 1 since new its 2007 and had very few issues with it. Good video LEE shame about ur bit off bad luck on this 1.
I have a Honda Accord ivtec on a 53 plate ,no rot anywhere .Full service etc
Also gearbox whine is not always a bad sign as i owned a 1.3 Suzuki Wagon R in the past and the whine was good sound like a rally car , it never had issues changing gear and it went on for over 20 thousand miles like that Japanese cars can take a lot of abuse just a shame the Jazz is in such a bad condition with the arches
'SD' on the reg is a warning sign, Scottish registration !
Win some loose some mate, I ended up rewinding to check the reg - and yeah it was a Scottish S reg car... learned my lesson with an A3 on a 60 plate, shocking bodywork peppered in rust spots. Looking forward to next video
Cheers tony, editing the next video as we speak, thanks for watching as always
Any car that was originally registered in Glasgow is going to have a hard start to its life . This is a classic example.
Your not wrong cabo
That is in the point. I think, any who buy a new car "inclusive new 0 miles" must put some protection underneath right away like Lano guard or anything else, specially in Scotland. I have the same Honda model of the video, with 169k miles 17 years old. and I am fighting the rust in the sills. And attack right away the rear arch rust. I clean the rust and use rust converter and paint myself to avoid have a Honda like the video, it is cheap solution. but this Honda in the video damn, 90k miles and is in horrible stage. The rest those Hondas are super reliable and easy to repair.
Nearly 20 yrs old and been up Scotch!! We all take huge gambles though when buying stock. Great content to show this is not an easy businesses to be in . I shall prescribe you with a bit of medication for a severe bout of auction fever!!
Many thanks simon, yes I do love a good auction 😁😁👍
Check mine out i do the same and theres alot of downs then ups in this game
I've had three Jazzes in the past 20 years, total reliability. Not exciting of course, or fast, but very versatile and solid.
Didn’t know where you was going with that opening scene then, Lee 😂 was in a panic to turn the volume down with the kids around 😂
love a intro paul but always keep it clean
SD is a Glasgow registration. I'm up I'm Moray, and generally cars have a life expectancy of 12 years because of the salt on the roads upto 6 months a year. They were actually still spreading today.
my current "runabout" has lower area rust due to the previous "one lady owner " not giving a F//k. i only bought it because it had a rebuild engine.
Sell it spares or repairs, someone wouldn't mind doing the work. That engine sounds sweet.
The minute I see a Scottish number plate I run to the hills. They are rust buckets the lot of them.
The car was originally from Scotland Lee,this is why its a rusty one!
It's ginger 😂
I used to subscribe to that thought but there's a good chance it originated from Arnold Clark who register all sorts, so may have never seen Scottish roads
I managed to get a set of Corsa headrests for £13 for my sister...
But these Jazz ones seem to sell for £25 - £29 for a rear pair and someone spent £47 on dirty front ones. 💷
A sun visor is £20 and a side mirror or headlight £40. How many bits could you take off before scrapping? 🤔
@7:03 Yes mate but if you want the CVT you need to buy the 1.4.
This gets me right in the feels, just scrapped my 2005 honda jazz, rusted out on the chassis leg. Nightmare.
Not even halfway through the video, scrap it
we did garry, scrap and move on
Probably really regret it lol like all the cars I scratch mk 2 escorts, worth a fortune now
I’m 50 seconds in. Yet to see the horror guessing to unfold. …. in old days running around the block. I’d have bid first min. Im third way arches were enough for me. Bin.
@@carukchannel mate would you sell anything like the head unit and back lights as I need those for a Jazz I have? Thought I'd ask.
Not good so many bangers about 😮😮😮
Great content, you know what you're talking about and have a great way of presenting that makes it engaging
Thanks A
I love the Honda jazz, but I’ve never seen one go like that
I have I inherited one of my Grandma it was rotten, back arches had more filler then any car I've ever seen there was also alot of heavy rust underneath aswell. Only done 46k on an 07plate, ended up breaking it as it was too far gone I don't know how it had a valid MOT it was so bad.
Worth a gamble at that price, I always like a chance on a cheapie, you never know! My mate had a 56 plate civic MK8 that was rotten around the rear suspension but my 59 plate example had no rust at all so I think Honda might have improved the bodywork quality in that space of time. Still good cars if they're not rusty, I liked my diesel Civic. Liking the cheap car episodes and the auction videos too 👍
I went to look at a mk8 on a 59. Pretty perfect up top but starting to go underneath by the rear beam mountings and exhaust hanger. Guy wanted 5k for it too 😢 hopefully I can find a good one soon as mechanically I hear they are excellent
Thanks Split pin 👍👍
I've got an mk7 Civic (53 plate) bought two years ago as a second car. Super clean and no rust issues at all, even underneath. I now take it off the road over winter to preserve it's condition.
@@jdmguy44 maybe it was owned before by a conscientious older person who actually bothered to clean the arches and the underside too 👍
@@danmoney9932 probably. It lived in the south of England for 18 years which is where I bought it. I live in the west of Scotland and would never contemplate buying an old car here because at that age they will be suffering from rust due to the long salty winters. The Jazz in this video is a case in point.
Sorry Lee had your pants down 😅, sorry one of those things ,did like your intro pal ,up and up Lee cheers great vlog 👍
Lee I'm 1/4 way though and I'd say scrap or break it for parts the engine alone has to be worth a few quid with them miles on it
agree if we had the space i would break it, send to scrap and move on thanks for watching richard
Bless you mate. I agree. Honda has slipped in recent years. Keep these videos honest! That's what we love. Don't sell your soul to sponsors etc. Hope your well bud
Hondas are highly sought after and sell easily. So if one is in an auction, you know it's in a really bad state. Forget the arches, the whole chassis underneath is toast. Looks like a car that's been near the coast.
Its lived through 17 years of west of Scotland salty winters in fairness. Never buy any car of that age that's lived in Scotland - regardless of make.
Gotta agree with that. Bought a Hyundai at auction years ago that had spent its life in the West of Scotland. Rotten as shite it was!
Great engines bit shite bodys 🙄🙄🙄Check mine out i do the same
I've just got rid of my 06 mk8 civic, Honda doesnt underseal them properly it's a shame so if you do look at any they mainly rot on the rear trailing arm/rear axle and eventually snap and the rest rots underneath the undertray if you take it off. The drivetrain and engine where bulletproof though very reliable just the shell let it down.
Thanks for this just scrapped a Suzuki sx4 for same reasons it takes the sting out a bit knowing that my mentor can boob too.
Sorry to hear that
Hey ho, it's one of them, take the battery and the stereo, bin it and move on, you get plenty of good ones in. It is a shame as I really like the Jazz, get a good one and you're set, reliable, economical and surprisingly practical.
Thanks for watching Graeme and yes a decent jazz is a smashing car
The head unit is worth more than £40 so you may be a couple of quid in profit
😂😂
Recently I was looking for a driveshaft for one of these! €1200! + VAT! I shit ye not! Found one in a scrapyard for €80!
started its life in Scotland mate lots of salt on the roads during winter looks like the poor metal Honda used in the late seventies
It looks like Honda are the new Datsun of the new era my old Datsun cherry 1978 f10 ran fantastic but fell apart from rust I had I tested drive in a jazz I few years ago but did not now like it after having a 1.4 tdi polo for 3y it Seemed to Rev and been getting no wear so I decided to keep my polo for another 9y I now have an 2015 Astra j 1.6 diesel which to my Surprise is doing more mpg then the polo
Yep 100% i went to view a 2005 Civic type R off Autotrader seller wanted £3K for it good price miles were low only 85 thousand which for an 18 year old car is low but lucky i bought my neighbour with me who is a truck mechanic , he spotted all the welding on the sills underneath and rusting arches the car was basically a write off , got to be so careful nowadays mate , Hope you can get better luck next time , this is why when my old car dies i may have to use the train to get to work as most used care sellers where i am are dodgy.
Ep3 quite alot are rot and they only 13 years old crazy
@@flippingcarsrepairs Yeah the Japanese never use a lot of underseal sadly
@@christineayres7199 they're fine now. The MK2 Jazz is decent except the rear arch's and that is more of a design fail because they put a lip on it that collects salt.
@@crocus9905 😀👍
@@crocus9905 no, they’re all shite and they all rust sooner or later.
Beyond economical repair
Bad luck, Lee. Sorry to hear about yet another Honda being too far gone. But as you said, you didn't lose too much money on it.
Bet thats put you of hondas now 😳😳😳
@@flippingcarsrepairs
I still like the look of the current Honda Civic. Especially in black. What's really put me off is that even though you can get a turbo on the standard range of Civics, it's downright anemic. The one in the current Mazda 3 gives you 250hp. The Civic's is only 180. That's not enough HP to deal with the headaches associated with a Turbo. Heck for only 10hp less compared to the Civic, you can get a Toyota Corolla non-turbo charged engine. No Turbo headaches, runs off Regular fuel, and the engine will practically last forever with a bit of care.
As u say Lee m8 u can't win em all and under £40 loss on one here and there is nothing...Shame though bcoz as u said the rest of the car bar the arches was pretty good but hey ho there u go!!!...Look forward to your next content Lee m8...Keep bidding and here's to the next purchase and possibly restore!!!...Great video as ever...informative, friendly and a great intro...lol...😂😂
Thanks Neil as always 👍👍👍👊
Check mine out i do the same
Love the videos mate please keep them coming 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Duncan 👍👍
I've learnt from bitter experience that cars pre 2010 are just past it now, the years are rolling on and many areas also have strict emission zones so second hand cars from before 2015 for diesels and 2006 for petrols are becoming a thing of the past
I would disagree with that, the used budget end of the market upto £2k particular has never been so busy, also we have people buying older petrol cars for Ulez as they are compliant and this has pushed there values up
Can't win them all I guess .
Hopefully the next one will outweigh this one .
Keep up the great work
thanks steve 👍👍
🎼Da, da da, da da, da,da, da, da, da, da daaaaa daaaaa 🎼 (The “Arches”)
As with other comments, nice that you show us the “bad’s” as well as the “good’s”. Interesting that having checked the MOT history online, the brakes seemed to be a continuous issue, but the corrosion not even mentioned - do you do any MOT checks when you’re at the Auction?? (Just a thought)
Part her out and you’ll more than make your money back, not least with the stereo and gearbox, and weigh the rest in1
Keep ‘em comin’!
JCHK
🤣 best tune on the radio, thanks for watching john👍👍
Yup. Know what this feels like. Quarry car PX just scrapped and thinking bought 1/5 from bca today likely perishing. Rotten. Tea bag. Only got 336 civic. 380 good scrap a Jazz.
Nice one Lee cheap cars make duh 40 loss nowt wrong wi that can’t win um all have a top week dude 🙂✌️
thanks for watching bud 👍👍
Shame about this one, but as you said you can't win them all! Are you going to remove the stereo/infotainment unit? Surely you could make a bit of money from that? Great channel, keep up the good work.
Thanks trance 👍👍👍
Check mine out i do the same
ahah i was right then, wet carboard syndrome and after cat fitted, yes cars of this age are certainly telling us something, run, way is what they are shouting, i had a customer looking underneath one of my cars a few weeks back for soggy sills, havent had that in years, back in the day i used to kick the sills with my cappers to show customer it was a solid car,now they just want to know if it has bluetooth unless they are old enough to remember cars from the last century
You've been unlucky there Lee , have had a couple of Jazz's and they have been fine and ultra reliable.
Yes they can be smashing cars, thanks for watching michael
Whip the engine and box out scrap the rest I bought one new in 2003 for the wife, sold it 3 years later the underside was completely rusted told Honda they said it has not gone through the steel it's just surface rust and didn't want to know, that was the last time I bought a new car from honda chuck away rubbish is all they make today shit Chinese steel would be my guess, funny enough my mk1 crv 107k is spotless underneath bought new in 2001 only ever had rear bushes and front ball joints and a rad in all that time
I had a 2005 made in Japan. Sold it 3 years ago arches where still ok. Transmission was gone after just 100000 km. Same year they also introduced Chinese made ones in the Netherlands. Those were real rustbuckets.
These facelift mk1Jazz's were made in China.
@@jdmguy44 my 2005 storm silver metallic was made in Japan. The silver ones in the showroom back then where made in China and seemed more rust sensitive.
What a shame as a decent little runabout otherwise. I've had many Honda's over the years as my go to cheap used buy all of them have been great runners up to 160k easy, just a regular service once a year. Remember a 02 plate HRV bought for £700 been standing for months with moss on the windows, cleaned it up gave a service and ran it from 80k to 164k with one issue , the EML light came on at 160k but would still run me to work and back 100 miles a day. Great cars.
Well you know if there was no risk involved you would be out if job because people would bid rather than buy from you ;) It happens... I once imported an e-pal of one type of device bought from various sellers and only two units worked hahaha
I didn't realise Honda's were so bad for rust!. My 56reg Mondeo tdci is still solid as a rock. 💪. Keep the videos coming .
Thanks! Will do!
It's like most cars of the era, they need to be maintained properly. Japanese cars of the early 2000s were known to rust because their rust protection was predominantly catered to Japan's environment. As Japanese cars began to be more widely imported and built overseas, things got a lot better.
Any car in areas high with salty air will do that. Cars from Scotland suffer badly.
It's a Glasgow registered car. Winters are very harsh here with wet salty roads for five months. Any car here will be rusty at 17 that's lived here.
@@DylRicho Japanese cars have been imported since the 60s and 70s, so they’ve had plenty time to adapt their product to suit our conditions. They clearly have no interest in doing so successfully though, as they are and always have been complete rot boxes 😢
Parts car!!! You're bound to get another one at some point, and that will be good for your parts need on the next.
I know your spot on, just wish i had the room, I am in the prosses of moving sites so no the best time for stuff like this to be hanging around. But you just know I will need a gearbox for one later in the year 😁
At least it made good content. Liked and subscribed.
Would check the cat on that. Known for people nicking cats off the jazz as they’re good money.
Not sure what engine the pricey ones are on though Pretty sure someone I know for £450 for one that went for scrap.
Haha you mentioned just after I typed this up.
I've never seen a jazz so bad! made me worry as I've got a 56 plate auto that's been sat on my yard for about 2 years, keep meaning to get it sorted
Think you may need to stick your head under randy, also watch that catlic converter on it, worth a few bob 👍
@@carukchannel I've already had to put an eBay cat on! One of the unfortunate prerequisites of Jazz ownership these days
Otherwise a great car!
Those arch covers have done a number on your arches haven't they :( Interested to see what you do with it!

How about stripping It For the parts And then sell the parts
shame love the jazz mental on fuel but if it was just arches i would have done it but looking at video that whole car is gone sheesh kabab the salt defo got to her.
Lesson learned and experience gained
Lol. Rust is like icebergs . One spot is 10% of the actual corrosion
Scrapped my 55 plate jazz end of last year corroded back end underneath had car for 8 years
you can get 59£ on the infortaiment system (the sat nav) easily
U DO A RALLY GOOD JOB ON HERE MATE
I am sure you did but You didn't show us checking oil and other fluid levels before driving?
A good Kurdish body shop in Manchester would have that bodywork sorted in no time for real 😂
Be like new FHM 🤣👍👍
@@carukchannel I can point you in the right direction.. Used to use em myself.. 🤣.. The stuff they can do unreal..
There’s a good garage & body repair shop in Handsworth Birmingham. Run entirely by Vietnamese.
Top stuff as always Lee 👍🙂👍
Thanks 👍
That’s a shame Lee, I’m quite surprised Hondas rot this badly.
Thanks Lee, just checked our 2014 looks ok underneath and the arches, does have caliper issue i think at the rear, need to get that sorted.
Mechanically they are brilliant but bodies are not long lasting. If you’re selling the 2 wheel trims let me kmow
i will take the trims off for you if you want them email me and i will send out for you barry
@@carukchannel thanks
Once the rust is in that deep forget about it, move on to the next one Lee
I found a low mileage one on Gumtree and was going to recommend it to a pal for his son...then I checked the MOT history. Corroded to f***
I actually have tears in my eyes 😢
No good fella, bit like woman as they say, the ones that look decent usually come with the biggest problems.
Under that nice makeup can lurk evil.
They always get the house too lol
Your not wrong g4ry, the stunners are normally as mad as a badger 🤣
Lee another rotten Honda😢😢. And this one doesn’t even have good tyres you can use. It’s great that you show the bad ones too. Waiting for you next video 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Take the head unit as well.
When the car is on the auction yard is it possible to have a look underneath?
Yes
Great video Lee if you take the the android out you might make a bit more out of it
Already out john 😁
possible parts donor car? otherwise you should come out on top by pulling out the infotainment system and a duff battery swap before sending it to the knackers yard
Sell the sterio on for small bob and you'll make a little profit
Excellent video again buddy
Thanks again!
these rarely have the original cats as you know as well i rarely mot one with the original cat on 😁
Just about any Japanese car 10 or more years old with a number plate that starts with an S is going to be a bit rusty underneath.
Strip it out ,sell the parts and go banger racing at least you can have a bit of fun.
I can't think of any circumstances where a Jazz purchase makes sense.
Like you say Lee ain’t gunna lose a fortune on it and that’s part and parcel of auction buying. Leading me up to Citroen pt 3? 🤞
Hi Twiz, yes the c4 is back and drives lovely, however its now in the line for paint next in, when the i20 featured on the channel is sorted. I expect pt3 to come end of the month so little wait yet bud 😁😁👍
Least you didnt make a loss Check mine out i do the same
I bet the engine runs well and starts first turn though.
Save the engine and box.
You can use it down the line.
i wish i could as you just know i will need a box for one soon enough, however we dont have the space to store the car and if we remove the box for example the scrap price goes down alot as a uncomplete car,
Another great video 👍
Cheers paul
It's deffo toast pal
i try not a buy a car with a scottish number plates as it will be rotted out or the heater will be burnt out.
these Japanese cars are always rotten after like 15 years, only thing left is the engines! 🤣 good stuff lee
cheers Noah 👍👍
Depends how you look after them.
I had to get a small amount of cosmetic rust tended to recently on my 1994 Toyota Celica. Not all Japanese cars are rot buckets.
My 23 year old micra still going well...no rot
!!
What about the cd / android player be worth selling to make money to. Gearbox and engine as well if in good nick
Most Honda's of that age are not normally that bad for rust, but that age once the rust is that bad not worth the time you wont get that much back for it.
The plural of Honda is Hondas.
