  • A guy finally got a few minutes "Free" from ‪@ViceGripGarage‬ so I took my boys out timber riding in the hills of Tennessee. Unfortunately, we went on a muddy day and got caught in a storm. And of course, breakage.

My step dad was a square body driving jack of all trades as well. This entire episode reminded me of all the days like this we had. He passed when I was 13. I can still see his face in detail covered in mud laughing at me as I floated a Honda 200 across a pond at 9 years old (i think)... I'm 48 years old this year..... that's the kind of memories you are making. The forever kind. Thanks for sharing this.

Sometimes ride to school. Rode my KX 175 in homecoming parade. Never realized the addiction I had until just now. Think I'll go for a ride. 48club✌❤😃

To you, it's probably just spending time with your boys. To some of us, it was a video full of teary eyed smiling. The high 5 at the top of the hill got me. You absolutely made their week. Those 44 minutes put a smile on my face and a tear in my eyes too. My dad (passed in 2015 and miss him terribly) hated dirt bikes but gave in to me when I was 14 so that I could buy my first one with my grass cutting money. 1974 Suzuki TS100 for $350 in 1980. I loved riding and kept dirt bikes for almost 40 years (mostly Honda CR250's). When my sons became old enough, we started to ride together and your videos took me back to a cherished time. They are now 27 and 26, have their careers started, girlfriends, truck payments, etc. You're a great dad and it's insanely important to take some time away do this with your sons. Thanks for sharing your day with us just to keep those memories alive.

Pit bikes are fun but those 65 sized wheels definitely limit where you can go, especially as a beginner rider. Still it's fun to try as a kid. I never had a pit bike growing up, but I rode plenty of them. They're fun on mini tracks but for trails my XR80 or later on a KLX125 was a lot more fun. I was 10 inches from touching the ground on my RMZ250 so I never rode trails on that thing.

On May 3rd 2002 my step father called me out of the house to give me a present. On the flat bed of his truck (a beautiful green bumpside camper special) was a frame accompanied by box's and boxs of parts. Having dropped his dt400 and walking home one to many times I knew this was to be my bike. I spent that spring building and learning and by summer I had my very own freedom machine. Living in rural idaho that dt175 was the greatest gift I have ever received. Very much like your experience I too would ride into the mountains until I'd get to half tank then turn towards home. No one knew where I was and I had no cell phone. I would be miles up a single track in national forests without a care in the world. On that 175 I explored, I fished, I packed out my first deer, I met my first love and had my first heartbreak. I grew as a person. A couple thousand miles and three rebuilds later i sold her to fund a newer fancier motor scooter, a choice i will forever regret. It wasn't much later when my step dad passed and my world fell apart. Through a decade of on again off again homelessness and continuous loss i would often escape to those memories of blue smoke and single track, of wrenching with my step dad. Now having survived and flourished I have a home with my name on it, a beautiful wife and two amazing young boys. And one day soon I will call my oldest boy from the house and show him a plie of parts all his own on back of our green bumb side ford.

I started out w/a 1975 Suzuki TS 250, oil injected, tank of a bike. From there I had an RM125, 1979. Very tall for me but it was like new, and it flew. Nice power band. I had a Honda 200 3-wheeler and a z50, and my friend had twins with a ct70, so one of the twins would ride the 50. My wife would drive the 200 pulling a wagon with a portable playpen, cooler and fold up chairs and the diaper bag because we had a 1 year old.We did his every weekend for years. I kept it all repaired and running. Those were fun times. I also drove square bodies, my son does now. My younger son has a 90 something S10 pick up he just got and we've been going through. I'm very fortunate to have such great kids, and you're very good with/to yours also. Spending time is key.

I was raised on dirt bikes as well. When my son turned 8, I got him a cr80 and I bought a used CR 500 for myself. He out grew the 80 and wanted a 125. I got a deal on a CR 250 so he went straight to that. You're a great dad. If more fathers did things like this there wouldn't be as many kids on drugs.

What a great time with your kids. The kids did really good for first times out. Now 66 yrs it's been about 25 yrs since I had my Yamaha IT 400 out spraying rooster tails. I'd be riding today but can't get my leg over the seat anymore. I started out on a underpowered Honda 70 but learned how to beat the pants off my buddies with 100cc bikes in the trail. Got my Yamaha on my 18th birthday as my parents did not like street bikes so I compromised and got the dirt bike I wanted. No more underpower problems. One suggestion would be for the boys to practice on flat ground doing figure eights and get as tight as you can without putting feet down -- then do figure eights standing as tight as you can. The next time they are out, they will be confident to handle the mud and puddles like you shared in the video.

Love that 2 stroke 250 sound. Brought back some serious gall dern memories hearing that.
Also, reminded me of the looking back and seeing my buddy put his tires right where they shouldnt go which repeatedly put him in a ditch or laid over or smacked by a rock or who knows how many different ways he was incredibly talented at finding so we'd all have to stop and help him. Told him a million times, if youre front tire goes into the slop, your rear tire will too. But nah, he never listened one bit. Slip that rear end out and down he'd go. Every rut, rock and root had his name on it. Haha MAN those were good times!
Great vidyuh bud. Enjoyed this a whole hell of a lot!

There's a guy in Mississippi who loved to ride, race and wreck a Yamaha IT200 two-stroke . . . loved the 6 speed transmission and the power-band surprise . . . It is refreshing to this guy to see a guy spend time on making memories with some little fellers . . . . When I was self-employed in the early 80's, before cell phones, we turned on the answering machine in the studio and closed most Tuesday mornings . . . my wife and I along with an employee and his wife went riding for hours. It was a blast. My wife rode a Yamaha BW200 . . .

This video absolutely put a huge smile on my face. It brought back so many fond memories of riding dirt bikes with my family. I got my 1980 Honda Z50 when I was 6 and then jumped up to a 1981 Honda XR200 when I was older. I remember my dad showing me how to work on my bike (and later my car) also riding ahead to check out trails just like you did for your kids. Derick, you are one fine human being and a great father! Thank you for sharing this special moment with the world!

Started my son and daughter on dirt bikes. We have some old lead mines from decades ago, which were converted into riding parks. Over 300 acres of sand and woods to ride through. We realized we needed quads to stay up and stable. So we switched to quads specifically Yamaha blasters which I found on craigslist all needing a little bit of work so as we were riding, we realized they had friends who they wanted to invite to come with us so we had to buy two more For their friends to ride. They have now given us six grandkids so I have been buying used quads and repairing them so we can all ride on my property. They are so simple to work on and fix some of the smaller ones have an engine like your son’s Chinese SSR. Have been finding them on marketplace for a couple hundred bucks each for the Chinese quads and paid 800 for used warrior and a little more for a breeze. Look into used blasters for the boys.

Thank you for showing your day out with the boys. It brought back a lot of memories from when I was a kid. My Dad would take me and my two brothers and even my Mom out to ride on the logging roads when we lived just outside of Vancouver B.C. Great times. Yes 5 bikes. Three small bikes in the back of our early 70’s Ford van and the two bigger bikes on a trailer.

It brings back memories of my youth when I would hang with the guys and ride the 2-cycles, Yamahas, Hondas and Kawasakis all around the woods on this one fellas parents farm. It was a shock to most of the guys when they saw I could ride as well as they could, we had a blast! Seeing this has really made me nostalgic, Thanks! Your guys are doing great. Most dads would start their kids out on a dry trail on a sunny day on mostly level terrain. Not Derek, he's a, if you want to learn to swim, I'll just toss you in the deep end kind of guy. Probably why we love him so much. I noticed a real difference between the way Bentley was riding in the early part of the ride to the way he rode on the way back. He definitely gained some confidence and started riding more with his feet on the pegs than off. He's going to be an excellent motorcyclist as he gains more experience. Fun watching you guys out their enjoying the nice weather, lol.

After Bailey’s day of practice with that pit bike in the mud, he’ll do great with a dirt bike he’s comfortable with. Bentley sure did good also on day 2 with a clutch, very impressive. His enthusiasm and sense of humor would have to make a feller proud.

This video is awesome I myself have been been an of roader most of my life from 5 hp lawn mower mini bikes, dirt bikes, atcs, quads, 4x4 trks, 4x4 jeeps, and now sand rails. With all of that going on I raised with my wife two boys and I can't forget my off road family that grew over the years to. Watching this just brought back dozen of memories of fun times. This is the best video you have made so far that I have watched I normally follow your other channel that I follow from my off road channel. Well I bit off more than I can chew lmao! This thing is a beast of a bike which I knew but I did t think my skill went so down hill over the years because back in the day it’s all I did.
