    Impressive at that age! Very fast with footplay also. He is also strong in counter attack with forehand topspin, so it is not correct to define him a "defending chopper". For now he is a chopper on his backhand side only. Give him some training years more and he will also develop a strong backhand loops. And he will become a top player, quite sure.

    I used to be chopper but I'm trying to change my game. Now I only chop when the opponent is really on the offensive and I'm far behind the table. Other times I try to stay close to the table and try to finish the point quickly by attacking and putting pressure on the opponent. I believe defensive players need to adapt to the new changes, it's not as easy to win just by defending anymore.

    • @putiputain1230
      @putiputain1230 Před 3 lety +1

      I agree with you. Im mostly close to the table blocking and punching, but like you said if the opponent goes into offensive mode I take a few steps back to chop. I used ox before but now I use 1.0. Enough to give some good underspin.

    I’m pretty sure he’s playing against pips, which is really difficult to determine how good a chopper is. His loops seem to have very little spin and also why they’re so easy to counter attack, but still interesting to watch. He’ll be good in a few years

      @uchihadayne6506 Před 3 lety +1

      @@johndennis7764 pips is actually the worst to play against as a chopper. The person has much better touch typically since they don’t need to account for as much spin variation, and spin generally doesn’t matter as much to them. Chopping back flat hits or less spinny balls (especially on the long pips side) is also a lot harder. So no, I don’t agree

    • @johndennis7764
      @johndennis7764 Před 3 lety +2

      @@uchihadayne6506 I understand but my point was that he would chop against live rubbers 9 times out of 10. Hardly ever chopping against pimples I'd imagine. So that shows that at his age is very impressive in my mind..

    • @uchihadayne6506
      @uchihadayne6506 Před 3 lety +2

      @@johndennis7764 possibly. I don’t think his opponent is good enough to say one way or another, and because it’s pips I think it’s hard to determine. One thing I’ll say is that choppers like hou yingchao cause a lot of frustration to modern day elite players because of his use of heavy spin and spin variation. Because spin mattered a lot more to old ball and equipment, those old players have incorporated it into their game from old habits. It’s really difficult to teach or for new players to learn, so I really wonder about the modern day effectiveness of a chopper. Often times, they try and make up for it by a much better forehand attack, but I actually think that’s a lot less effective in today’s game.

    when featuring players like this, it would be beneficial to also list their rubber and bat brand/type. Chopping at this level requires even more attention payed to the proper rubber thickness/type and bat speed/wood type.

    I hate to say it but defense does not win games, offense does. That's why in the modern era of table tennis, all of the Olympic and world champions are attackers. However, China develops a few defenders so their top players can practice against playing defenders in case they face a foreign attacker in an international competition.

    • @24ghosh24
